Do those "seizure" statistics include items such as legitimate vitamins, herbs, or prescription drugs? Let's say a K9 "alerts" to a vehicle passing through one of these checkpoints containing nothing more than some herbs, such as dried cilantro. Since dried cilantro looks like cannabis and the K9 supposedly legitimately "alerted", I'm almost certain the cilantro would be seized as another notch in these agents' belts.

K9's have been able to false alert by the handler's command. This is nothing new.

And to those of you who think none of this matters to you please keep in mind that the 'border' includes the Atlantic & Pacific shoreline 100 miles in. That means States like New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts & Rhode Island are nearly entirely within the Border Patrol's jurisdiction. They could set up a checkpoint outside Faneuil Hall if they wanted to.
