Why people don't understand this character... She is this stubborn honest person. Through out her troubling life, she is trying to be honest, except the time when she makes the wrong choice to steal job. I remember listening to Dardennes after this movie got released, their aim was to show how globalization and capitalism destroying lifes in belgium.

I enjoyed it but, like others, there wasn't a grand enough alteration in the main character, Rosetta, for my liking. In the end I didn't really feel much for her at all, though this may have been due to her monotonous environment. I understand why she acts the way she does but I still didn't like her as a person.
okay, i had some hesitation during the first reel. primarily because the camera was making me ill. still think it is not great because you can get the effect needed without making the viewer queasy. but i loved that scene where she almost lets the guy drown, just to get his job at the waffle stand. she is a superb actress. fantastic. thank you so much for posting this and the other great movies. happy new year.
If you ain't got nothing nice to say, then dont say nothing, as eminem would put it. If you're so clever, why don't you make a film yourself with some nice "emotional journey" in it.
: ) I don't think hollywood is or will ever be able to undertake this kind of masterpiece. USA is not interested by its population without education, salary, housing, health. You think this movie lacks of events or emotional experience but, as a lot of europeans films, you'll think about it for a long long time. Try a Chabrol . "La cérémonie" if you find it.
btw if in the end she's supposed to have commited suicide, it looks open-ended, not nescessarily like she killed herself. the motorcycle sounds without seeing the waffle stand guy whose job she took is a nice touch. whatever the case, she started off alienated, self-centered, totally unable to connect with anyone and completely untrusting+ended up at exactly the same point.i can watch films just as depressing as this or even more so,but need a main character to undergo a major emotional journey.
@s4mth16ngstr24nge. it did drone on a bit, at the end i saw sm. development. interpreted it as her coming to terms w/the fact that she was dedicated to her mom, but could no longer cope with the strain. had the feeling it was showing how suicide failed-- too difficult to kill ones self. & boy actually loved/stood by her. showing that no matter how terrible things get,. people love &care for each other. shaky camera overdone. still, thought the movie was superb b'cause of her great acting.
the whole film no moments more important to her than another,she's as despondent+indifferent as a melancholy suicidal anyway.but if unrelenting sordid reality+depression is the directors' goal,they acheived it.i just think the directors should have had more goals for the film than that.i must say most hollywood movies would die to have an actress with such emotional commitment,such gravitas+dramatic center.however they wouldnt die for such a meager lack of events or lack of emotional journey.

Thank you for the upload. This movie is quite rare and when you can find it, it's very expensive.
