  • Mean comments suck. First of all, she IS STILL pretty (to those with the mentality that past 24 a person loses her/his looks) AND to those who are impugning that she was afraid she was going to lose certain named matches anyway, and let the opponent win, missing the point darlings. . . she's speaking of Victory in the most inherent sense of Winning: W=EVERYTHING. The ugly comments are indicative of the cruel world of competition she ran away from...for godless people this is difficult to grasp.

  • I never would have picked Andrea to ultimately choose the religious life, but she has my wholehearted applause. To the Steffi Graf supporters, she is no doubt a stellar player, but unlike Andrea, she had the luxury of going up against an aging Martina and Chris during her rise to the top. By the same token, she did not pull a Tonya Harding against Monica Seles, and such an accusation is ludicrous. As for Martina and Chris, well, neither has led what one would call a moral existence. Yay, Andrea!

  • I find it very hard to beleive Andrea threw the 83 Wimbledon final. If she had say lost to someone she should have beaten - say BJK or Wade, then the story could be plausable but she didn't have an earthly against Martina so the story is rubbish.

  • I don't agree with Andrea about Tennis being an individual sport and someone's going to be a loser. In team sports, one team also loses so there's no difference. She's just using that excuse as a cop out. She just don't want to admit that she didn't have a champion's mind. Better to offer the excuses than admit not having the champion's spirit.

  • @zeeksgay hey zeeksgay ur obviously some pathetic faggot that has no life except to follow retro womens tennis, why dont u end the misery and jump off that bridge you have always wanted and do the world a favour by getting rid of the vacuous space ur pathetic existance takes up

  • @justnatural you are a fucking freak. stop pretending; natural my ass. to keep up the exchanges here only proves that you are the pathetic, low life scum bag. go fuck your mother. Do the the world a favor and kill yourself. The world is better off without you. ha ha. It's so funny that I am getting a response from you. Perhaps when you're done molesting boys you'd care for more exchanges.

  • @zeeksgay bwhahahah......... oh how original copy my line about doing away with yourself....... oh yes then lets be all class and ad child molesting and mother fucking into the insults, bwhahaha dude u deserve fuckwit of the year award, ta ta!

  • @zeeksgay

I disagree. Team sports often feature individual players who are out to set their own records and to attain their own glory. Moreover, many athletes change teams in order to secure more lucrative contracts, and simply pick up and leave without any sense of loyalty. Also, when teams do lose, at least the members suffer together. Many players have testified about Andrea not enjoying victory any more than she did defeat, and I believe her when she says that she found no joy in tennis.

  • If you're playing against someone who is like 86-1 that year why would you even feel the need to play bad on purpose to ensure a loss? Makes no sense and I'm not buying it!

Another thing did she ever feel bad beating all the other players on her way to the final? Oops just found a big crack in her story there!

  • even if she played her best she still would have lost to martina in the wimbledon final.

  • LOVE THE ANDREA JAEGAR SQUEEL!! Music to so many young ears!!

  • I read somewhere that her father was an overbearing jerk, kind of like Peter Graf or Jim Pierce.

  • Lost a match deliberately! Sounds more like a sore loser to me. What a thing to say. Martina was at the top of her game and would have beaten her standing upside down with a broken arm.

  • @craigferris1 my thought at first also, but then again.....would a nun lie???

  • my dad was a big andrea fan he has a few of her matches on vhs ive watched them and yes she was really good but if her heart was no longer in it she shouldn't have stayed and she didn't

  • She was an overwieght mess in the 84 French when she quit during a match - because her arm was sore. But to say she let people win because they wanted it more.. is sort of really not worth saying now .. I mean please..

  • she looked kinda Pippi longstockings

  • What I cant see is her TANKING games...

What I CAN see is she was SUPER DUPER PRETTY in those days !

  • Andrea Jaeger was a real prodigy. Nobody knows what goes on in the mind of such people . Look at the available footage of her play, think about her age and experience and the quality of her opponents. And she played a pretty creative game, not just cloning a popular style of the day. No, she was not a great champion, but she clearly had the makings of one. When I look at the sadly materialistic uses to which steffi, a complete miracle of a player, puts her fortune, I appreciate Andrea.

  • But you're right though, Martina made her look like the little girl that she was. The first time I saw her was when she played Evert in the 1982 French Open. Evert was a 4-time champion and won three more later on, but Jaeger just embarrassed her in that match. It's too bad that's it's not on here, because it really showed what she was capable of doing.

  • Andrea Jaeger was awesome. If her head was on straight, she could beat almost anyone. She was my favorite player in the early 80's. It's really a shame that she didn't reach her maximum potential, but it happens in every sport; especially tennis.

  • She looks like a psyco-nun to me, that's scary. And she's a lier too, she never gave away matches, she always showed a big determination in trying hard to win matches no matter what, she even caused a big controversy against Martina Navratilova in the 1982 French Open final. And in the 1983 Wimbledon final Martina was simply too good for her. Martina smoked her 6-0 6-3 and one month later destroyed Chris Evert in the USOpen final 6-1 6-3. Andrea was not as good as Tracy Austin, Chris or Martina

  • she has mental issues. why would god want you to throw away matches and become the best you can be?

  • @roter13 lol who the fuck are you to judge if someone has mental issues or not?

  • She says that being number one is selfish? That's sour grapes. God gave all of us talents. What's wrong with maximizing your God-given talent? It's easy for her to say that "Oh I didn't want to be number one because that's self-serving" because she knew that her baseline game isn't as good as Evert's nor Austin's to even challenge for the top spot.

  • She certainly is "maximizing her god-given talent" now! Thank you Andrea for helping all of the children facing their greatest fears in life. You are # 1 and in the top spot of so many of our lives!

  • Actually, she wasn't being honest. When asked if she had done the "tanking" at another grand slam final, she said yes. Well she only reached 2 slam finals (82 French & 83 Wimbledon) and Martina was her opponent each time. Granted she tanked '83. But why would she say that she tanked the '82 French final when in fact, she was so ungracious after losing to Martina that she accused Martina of getting on-court coaching. If she tanked, she would done the accusation & just accept the loss.

  • I admire her honesty.

  • Excuse me, she has a long way to go before she can claim she is a "Christian" .

  • she gave up all her worldy possessions to provide a camp for those dying of cancer and she cant claim to be a christian?? I mean give us a break

  • well then the same should be said about you. if you do claim to be one, then how do you go around judging people?

  • Great informative biographical video. Thanks for posting--stumbled across this when looking to watch tennis. What struck me was Andrea stating that all the money and success early with in her life was for another purpose "it was not really for me" Is that what she said? Well that is rare in the material world we live--and as such a challenge to those who have also acquired wealth. I think she might make some people feel un-easy with guilt, though she may inspire others.

  • I really admire her and no wander she loved Evonne Goolagong Cawley, who also thought about her opponents feelings more than her own...Her and Tracy Austin are the nicest people along with Monica Seles that Womens tennis has ever produced. I will always remember her 1980 4th round upset on center court of Virginia Wade. Wade seemed to be a bit of an uppity cow. What a great human and Chris Evert comes across good in this aswell. God bless you Andrea

  • If you care about your opponent's feelings, you're never going to make a great champion, although Evonne managed to become one (and probably would have won more big titles if she had been a bit tougher). As for Andrea Jaeger, I think it's quite insulting of her to say that she lost those two Grand Slam singles finals against Navratilova deliberately. How does Jaeger know she would have won them, even if she had played at her best? Martina was virtually invinicible at that time...

  • I think she was saying she tanked the match, that she didn't try..... i dont think she was saying she would have won if she tried her hardest, there is a difference. And Martina wasn't invincible at the time, she was losing all the time at the French and the loopy top spin style of game used to give Martina trouble, eg Martinez beating her at her last wimby.

  • Just natural, Martina was invincible at the time 1983-1984. And for a serve & volleyer, her record at the French was nothing to be ashamed of (2 wins & 3 tough losses to clay experts Evert & Graf). And she only lost to Concgita because she was way pass her prime (38 yrs old!). When she was younger, she beats another loopy topspin player Sabatini all the time. Please check your facts before lambasting Navratilova.

  • Oh puhlease she sat on celebrity who wants to be a millionaire and gloated she surpassed all other champions. Chris had a higher career win/loss ration, just as many GS titles, Graff had more GS titles and on more surfaces. Martina only got more titles cause she plodded along till she was nearly in a wheel chair.Todays players would whip her arse, she would be passed constantly.

  • What? Where do you get your facts? You're right that she plodded along until she was what, 38? But she was still beating & being competitive with then top players Seles & Graf. In fact she beat Seles (a hard hitter with angles)in Paris (indoors) & Graf in Tokyo. Chris, wouldn't be able to beat Seles & Graf had she kept playing as her baseline game was too defensive. In 2002, Martina beat 15th ranked T. Panova & won a main round @ Wimby.Even Serena said that Martina's serve is tough.

  • @justnatural "Martina only got more titles cause she plodded along till she was nearly in a wheel"

Really? anyone can get more titles if they stay on tour longer than anyone else? That's all it takes? Wow you make it sound really simple! Wonder why only Martina got this idea and no one else. Your statement is a JOKE!

  • @doetim Well at least Steffi retired with dignity at 30 and not hang around like a bad smell like Martina who obviously didnt have a life to retire to!

  • @justnatural Oh so you're now backpeddling your original stupid statement about Martina's longevity with an even more stupid one! All you Graf fanatics need to get a life! Longevity in sports is something you applaud at not slam athletes for. The lady retired from doubles just one month from being 50 years old with a grand slam trophy in her hand. who the F is ever going to be able to do that? Take your hating elsewhere loser!

  • @doetim bwhahahah, Martina was an amateur hack

  • @justnatural You're the one rotten, smelly fuck. How do you know Martina has no life? She's continued getting involved in everything even after cancer.Your Graf sabotaged Seles' career and you know that.

  • @zeeksgay what u going on about u silly fag, go lick martina out if u love her so much

  • @justnatural and what the fuck are u maligning Martina? Go home and fuck your dog you white trash nincompoop.

  • @justnatural Graf didnt retire with dignity. She retired when she knew she could no longer win. Her loss to Amy Fraizer summed it up
