  • for my basset hound fiona

  • I'm thinking Gentle Giant

  • lol i heard brain stew at the end

  • @KmanAvenger lol I remember that...

  • Heys Fans. Reply to me: Whats the tree looking thing with circles and color on the vid? I love 311 but unknowing of all songs. Peaceful song

  • 311 is my favorite band, and all the members are the nicest guys. I've had nothing but positive meetings with all of them, whether before and after a show.

  • This song has been stuck in my head for a year now. its just so unique

  • whoa its like ska and rock

  • I love that last line! MUSIC!! You're my constant companion!!

  • @chucoboy that's the cheesiest line ever

  • 311 has quite a sound, even though i listen to extreme metal these guys really catch my ear!

  • This is a cool song is what they play in LA.rock on.love this song.

  • i love this song ./..

don't care about what an a-hole got to say really...

  • @Toontownmaster12121 your a FUCKING stupid person, dont bleep yourself out that makes you worthless

    311= amazingness

  • @Toontownmaster12121 So, why are you listening?

  • @Toontownmaster12121 weird, i was thinking that the quote where great in the song

  • I love this song so much...

  • I just recorded a bad ass cover of India ink, I multri tracked all of the instruments, Not shabby.

  • Can you say Jackpot?? Maybe you are missing the boat..I'm a Omaha/Westside grad in the album is definitely a scope of 311 as a whole. You are correct that their music has evolved but I hear major element of the old school days here

  • "I think of all those years..... And then I say Jack pot.... And then I see the color green"

    Nick Hexum on S.A. Martinez

  • 311 rocks! i love their sound its so amazing, I just bought their album =)

  • 311 is by far a fantastic band because they make great music and they put on good shows live. they interact with their crowd and they have a fun time doing it

  • 311 is still the best! great song!

  • reminds me of beautiful disaster for sum reason but great song

  • something out of nothing, is almost literally beautiful disaster

  • yeah except for the different lyrics, the different guitar plus guitar solo, the different drums, the different bass, the different song length, the different transitions, and the fact that its not even fucking close to the same, other then that yeah its similar, dumbshit

  • Tim used the opening riff of beautiful disaster in the chorus of something out of nothing, its just slower. It's not a bad thing, in "offbeat bare ass", tim also uses his riff from "freak out" for one part

  • k cool, it sounded like a comment bashing on 311, and after all "hardcore 311 fans" ripping on uplifter, well im kind of hostile towards them. Uplifter is fuckin good, and i'll admit i will always skip too much too fast, two drops in the ocean, and mix it up, but every other track in my mind is fucking good, with about 5 of those that are fuckin amazing. if you can't be happy with that then you're just a mother fucker

  • i love every song on uplifter. i'm actually upset that they taken most of them out on the fall tour. Theyre playing rarities for the older fans, thats cool, but they should balance it out.

  • The summer tour was overflowing with mainstream stuff, reason (imo) for the fall tour.

  • @phantasmicshadow it's been that way since I can remember. I mean really, do you have to play Amber every night?????

  • Ich mag das Lied.

  • SO GOOD

    UNQIUE ahhhh

  • when I'm in my death bed, I want to finish myself off by blasting this so loud that I turn inside out

  • That's if you can hear by then. You might need to turn your hearing aid up instead. ;) lol

  • Damn, 311 still got it! Fuck the naysayers!

  • some of you people are crazy. this is one of if not the best album they've made. i saw them in philly a few weeks ago and the greatness of this album has been confirmed.

  • youre high, best albums?? e

  • the intro rocks, they are rockin now more than before,

  • Thats the best part dude! it sounds soo trippy

  • this 311 tune reminds me of new age bob marley its funky...:)

  • i think i should start listening to 311 this is my first song i herd from them and i like it =]

  • up next: brain stew. anyone catch that?

  • Hmmm.. don't know what to make of this one

  • naysayers suk 311 is fckin gud

  • fuck the naysayers cause they don't mean a thing, cause this is what style we bring!!

  • i love 311 and this is one of the most catchy songs they've had since Creatures came out...

the songs basically just 311 thanking their fans and thanking music in general for believing in them even when they didnt...oh the unfortunate irony that their dedicated fans hate them now because of this song...

  • haha seriously

  • worse than before, but very catchy

WOOHOO THEIR CONCERT IS ON THE 28TH!

    [maryland]

  • I love how every 311 song I visit, it's always about people breaking down what kind of music they play. It's ska, it's reggae, it's this, it's that........it's 311. :)

  • fuck the haterz!!!!! 311 rulz all !!!!!!!!

  • love it man! it's got a total summer/beach vibe XD

  • Personally I can hear a subtle sonnection to Sublime... I really like it

  • i can tell they've been feeling john lennon's vibes. in a strawberry fields kind of way...and those vibes mix effortlessly with some reggae and dub keyboard stylee.

  • John Lennon??? I'm not hearing the influence. I have to say I have mixed feelings about this song. It sounds like a kid wrote the lyrics in the beginning but then we get a little more depth later in the song. But I'm glad they're back.

  • oh yeah i just associate that whole general style of synth with john lennon, like in Straw. F.

  • on this song 311 sounds a bit like no doubt..but if their other songs have rock and rap mixed in they should fit in the same catagory as linkin park i guess

  • Give me a break, there is no way this could be confused with NoDoubt. Just because it contains some ska elements you suddenly say it sounds like them? Expand your horizons, and listen to more of the genre before making such sweeping statements.

  • haha i was just at a concert because paramore was opening for no doubt i was just in town tht day and wanted sumthin 2 do...no doubt is the only ska band i've ever known about the only 2 songs i've heard from no doubt tht were big hits r just a girl and watever the name of the one used in god only knows how many movies...i've also only heard this one song form 311...i said tht one song not the others...u need 2 open ur mind not on genres but on wat ppl r saying

  • Wow, so you know nothing. Educate yourself first before running your mouth. I am the one who has an open mind, you are being defensive because I called you out on not knowing what you're talking about. Just learn from it instead of trying to talk.

  • No, in no way does this song contain ska elements. This is purely influenced by rock and reggae, simple.

  • i love how it flows at 2:15

  • nothin but quality from 311. as per usual.

  • This song is really quite good.

  • Ooh yes. I concur, quite good.

  • I honestly thought they were singing to each other the first time i heard it and i was like wow what a bunch of fags. Then at the end they reveal they are talking about music and now i dont think its that bad. :P

  • lol!!!!!!!

  • dude i think they are running out of ideas. what the fuck is this?

i love 311 but this could be alot better of a song.

  • i love this song.

catchy beat and puts me in a good mood.

is it just me or does anyone else agree with me that they sound like System of a down towards the end of the chorus and near the end of the song??

  • HEARD YOU GUYS ON LOVELINE SICK SONG

  • 2:15 AWESOME just got cd yesterday ... didnt disappoint. -- rock on 311

  • weenisbats you are the biggest dousche bag.

  • Loveeeee the song! Amazing band!

  • It's the new track "Gay You!" from the album, Devolver! Everyone run out and get it!

  • just saw them last week ! there better then ever so for all u haters who said they lost it or arent as good as they used to dont know what the f*** ur taling about ..... and i i agree with you Nickramone they arent anything like linkin park... that crappy band is sooooo over rated 311 is the shiot

  • Anybody have any idea what 311's original lead guitar player, Jim Watson, does now?

  • he's working concessions at the college world series. bad call on jimmys part.

  • it's a great song that's grown on me over the past week or so.

  • if anyone hates this song, they are messed up.. this is like, the only good song that would play on the radio.. its about music! who would hate it?

  • I may be revealing my secret past passions, eclectic innermost self or maybe just my age but this song massively reminds me of "The Knack" from waaaaay back. Personally, I'm not completely familiar with "311" but this song made me look them up! I like it.

  • haha at the ending of the video u can hear the 1st second of brainstew by greenday

  • With a big-shot record producer (Bob Rock) at the helm, I think 'Hey You' was totally meant to be a simple radio-friendly song. Let's hear the rest of the album before we judge the band. I've been a fan for many years and saw them twice last month. They were AWESOME! Music changes over time and in 2009 they can't sound like they did in 1993 and expect to stay in the market. I'll always appreciate them.

  • well the whole album is out and the whole album sucks

  • KROQ FTW

  • I've been reading the comments posted here and am torn. How badly I want to continue to support 311. But these albums are getting more and more disappointing. Poppy, very simple and cheesy lyrics, embarrassing to listen to in a car w/friends. It doesnt seem like S.A has a part in lyrics anymore. He used to sing about off the wall cosmic shit when it was his time to shine. Now he just harmonizes and sings what nick tells him to in these poppy choruses. I dont know what think?

  • i rather listen to 311 then that gay ass screamo and jonas bros, jerkface

  • i agree with you here tendura, i've been listening to 311 for a very long time now and lately their stuff is falling off.. i think its soon time for them to retire, and i hate to say it but its true. i will defend 311's honor till the end but everyone is starting to realize that they cant be around forever.. and idk about everyone else but i think nowadays music is really starting to suck! i have a hard time listening to anything that was made in the past like 5 years. i miss the classics

  • Falling off? You're an idiot. Have you been to a concert in the past 3 years? STILL the best rock show in the world

  • They need to make music that is good both on the CD and live. From Chaos was their last amazing album. Everything since then has been made specifically to sound good in concert, so really it's a kind of raw deal for us fans who don't see them live. Music, Grassroots, and Blue Album was 311's three best albums because it just seemed to work in every single track, whether you listened in your basement with your buds or with thousands of others at a concert. It just always fucking kicked.

  • The classics are just that. They're 15 years old now. Can you imagine being the same person now you were back then? Haven't you had some big life experiences and learned some lessons? How would everyone feel about you, if you were the same person you were 15 years ago?

  • I'm the same as I was when I was six years old.

  • Nick does most of the singing because rap-rock is dead. Kid Rock gave up rapping in his songs and so did Linkin Park. It just sounds lame anymore...

  • fuck Kid Rock, Fuck Linkin Park. This isnt rap rock mutherfucker. this is rasta influenced ska......learn your genres. 311 is not even comparable to Linkin Park and Kid Rock..are u kidding me?

  • First off, calm down...no need for name calling.

Also, lets try not to split hairs here. 311 has rap and rock in their songs. I was just being general. Every band could have their own genre or be categorized in all kinds of styles because none are exactly alike.

  • really...? you think this is rap?

  • no not at all. I meant that their early work had elements of rap-rock with S.A. doing verses in every song. I'm saying that, like most rock bands that had rap in their songs, they are moving away from that.

  • bleed it out?...good call tho

  • One song...how about the other singles from there last couple albums? Shadow of the Day....What I've Done...Numb...Breaking the Habit.

Their early songs like, In the End and Crawlin are full of rap.

  • Sorry you don't understand weeni

  • I am 18. and i love 311. all their music. i dont care what you say!!!

    <3 Anna

  • this album is like your son coming out of the closet when he's 15. you always figured something wasn't quite right, and then it all makes sense. and yet, you still have to understand and be supportive. hahahhahahahaha

  • Good comment. I do understand it but I can't support it. It's too bad because the music is still really good, but the lyrics are weak, they totally ruin it for me. Last comment I posted not intended for you at all just so you know.

  • now now children, what would 311 do, im sure they would

not behave the way you all are, 311 are great guys, love there music, but the fans are petty, negative, big mouths. sad to say

  • This is a great song. 311 has always stayed true to those in the know. Without a doubt.

  • Dude their new album is sick. All you mother fuckers that are listening to this song right now writing comments haten on em can go to fuckin hell and die you stupid pieces of shit. Yall obviously aren't true 311 fans

  • i like the ska parts in between the "hey you" parts with the distortion. best parts in my opinion

  • Oephi is right.

311 changed. Grow up and GTFO

  • first you download and hear, then if you like go to buy it.

    ASSHOLE

  • for all the people saying they need their original music back this may sound crazy but uplifter is ORIGINAL! 311 whether you like the album or not

  • I have been a fan of 311 since '95 and I believe that this is not the original 311. I noticed on some of the tracks that they tried to emulate the old sound but all their lyrics are now lacking emotion and metaphors like they used to; they were so much more poetic. It seems to me they went soft. 311 you are better than that. I still go to the shows to hear older songs and miss the days of omaha sessions to soundsystem. I guess Ill have to look forward to the concerts & next album. GREAT DOC. VID

  • Bands evolve. Bands change.

  • This is such a copout bullshit argument that people use because they're so afraid to admit that a band has sold out. I hear it so often. I'm not even talking about this CD specifically, as I haven't heard anything but this song from it (and love it). But people need to admit when bands have sold out. "Bands change, derrr" does not account for bands completely changing their style for the sole purpose of appealing to the masses, and if you can't see that, you're full of shit.

  • WOW, ive been a fan of 311 since about 92 or 93 ever since my older sister helped me sneak out of the house to see them in hollywood a LONG time ago, im still as big of a fan as i was when i first saw them, but there style on this album isnt what it use to be. im still a fan of the album simply because its 311 and i'll always be a fan but guys GO BACK TO THE OLD DAYS!!! i dont care about them talking about weed, i just miss the relaxed and rockin song styles of old!

  • pretty chill song...i think i'll get it on iTunes...

  • To the people who bitch alot:

If you don't like the music, stay off the video. Don't waste time that could be better spent on something productive, and gtfo so that the rest of us can comment on the actual video without having to see paragraphs of post-rehab middle aged losers bitching over a band's new song(s).

Thank you, fuck you, and goodbye.

  • You're completely right. I don't know why these ppl are wasting their time trolling on here, I guess they have nothing better to do. The cd is different, and people who can't get past the fact that 311 aren't in their 20s anymore should move on. Why would the band want to recreate the exact same things they've done in the past? The old catalog isn't going anywhere, they still play those songs live. This is something new, if people don't like it they can leave.

  • So wait. If we dont agree with the quality of the song then we are wrong to say so? Wow! Ignorance and close mindedness are the two most dangerous qualities anyone can have.

  • Hardly.

I'm merely stating that it's pointless to argue over this band's new style of music when they are not going to change any time soon. It's a waste of your time, and an utter nuisance to me and anyone else who wants to comment in at least a semi-positive manner on the song.

I am truly sorry that you find me ignorant and close-minded, but I'm afraid I would have to say that you are in fact the one who possesses those qualities. It's either that, or your interpretation skills are awful.

  • I wasn't talking to you, my reply was supposed to be elsewhere. If you look at my past comments they were constructive and not strictly derogatory. This song is the only song that I really appreciate from their new album. I am still going to their concerts and to not merely based on their latest album is ridiculous, but then again I can't speak for others b/c its not my money.

  • i agree this is the only good song from this ablum the others suck

  • I still love 311.

I think they have always sounded great.

And I love when they come back home to Omaha.

Kinda bummed I missed them last summer

  • I wonder if the people standing behind 311 have hearing problems. Would you stand behind someone who just smeared shit in your face? That's all this album is, so why would you support it? I have no problem acknowledging what they've done in the past, but don't tread on me was the end, and this is just embarrassing

  • Yeah, you must not have any form of musical talent. This album is great in terms of musical structure. They have all different types of genres included in this album. Don't you realize they are all in their late 30s and it would not be mature to talk about smoking weed? Besides they do not care less for their old school fans. They are constantly on tour playing shit from more than 15 years ago. I think you are the sellout for saying they should have been in a plane crash after Evolver, u choad

  • Exactly!!! Why do people not get this?!

  • and dude take the 311 off the end of your name cuz you're not a 311 fan, you're a fuckin prick that only likes the rap 311 songs. so fuck you dude. if you dont like the album then just keep that shit to yourself, if you're a 311 fan you wouldn't fuckin go campaign against their new album. go fuckin be a papa roach fan and fuck off

  • Oh my god.

    really?

    REALLY?

    ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

    it was my opinion.

    you could respect it.

just keep the mean words to yourself.

    I like the album.

I don't care if you dont. I care that you were RUDE

  • GOD will they EVER go back to playing THEIR ORIGINAL music!? This really frustrates me. Where did the good stuff go? They died after Soundsystem; my personal opinion.

  • As a very longtime 311 fan, this album is a disappointment. Hey you is one of the top 3 songs, which doesn't give you much confidence in the rest. 311 used to be awesome with their rock, hip hop & reggae beats. I didn't really like there last album, but thought it was okay. They still had a few really cool obscure songs. I was expecting the same for this album and perhaps a revival, but I was wrong. Every song is completely poppy. Some songs start out okay, but are ruined by a lame chorus

  • I completely agree. I got into 311 because of Grassroots and this new album does NOT sound like a 311 album. All the songs are so poppy. I do really like Jackpot, but if there is only one decent song on an entire album, it makes it worthless. I really wish they would go back to that perfect mix of punk, hip hop, reggae, and funk.

  • what the hell is this? "hey you, my long time friend...my companion..." thats pretty weak lyrics

  • I'm pretty stoked to get the new record at midnight... 311 still rocks man, this song has really grown on me

  • this song is garbage, i can only imagine how bad the album is, i can't believe people still pay to see this sorry band, they had like 2 decent songs in 15yrs, please die already

  • Take it easy man. Music is music, and if you don't like it that's cool but don't hate on others who like 311.

  • as a newer fan, this album kicks ass!

  • name of the song is defiling the song of the same name by pink floyd

  • You just have to accept the fact that the more time bands go on, the less appealing they become to the longtime fan ...Their last album was disappointment and after hearing this song just twice I'm already sick of it, it's lame and for that reason I probably won't waste my money on the album, probably just burn it off someone.

hopefully this song was meant to be their first single and for that reason is lamer and poppier than the rest of the cd which I havent heard yet

  • i don't know what you;re crying about, but i like the song! xD

  • true dat brotta

  • That is just horrible dude. This album is actually really good. You are aware the bands that don't make it out alive are the one that do NOT venture into different areas of music, right? That's why bands such as 311, Incubus, Coldplay are on top of their shit, because they redefined their music to try NEW things and put them on their NEW albums. Seriously, I am shocked you could say that shit and have 311 on your username, ya douche. :+)

  • REAL douche...

  • I have no respect for sellouts, they could care less about their old fans. It's all about getting the young high school girls into it because that's where they make their money, and it's working. THEY ARE SELLOUTS

  • fuck you dude. they're 40 fuckin years old. they aren't going to have pure rap albums now. they had about 5 of those dude, so fuckin chill out. appreciate the fuckin sweet songs off the new album like india ink, never ending summer, golden sunlight, and jackpot. you're just a fuckin asshole, they've been making music for 20 years, over 160 songs, what the hell else do you want from them you stupid fuck. eat shit mother fucker

  • i love KROQ

  • im a long time 311 fan n when i first heard this song i hated the shit outa it but it has def grown on me. its different but nice work guys. nothing wrong with changin the sound up.

  • It sounds ok. A little too much rock though. Usually 311 makes their best stuff when it's chill or a lot of rock (like creatures and amber)

  • The song is catchy... but its soooo lame.

Hey You!! Look for our family friendly new song in the next Highschool musical!! Hey You!! We threw in a random reference to Jamaica... because people smoke pot there!!... and we used to be all about smoking pot!! Hey you!!! We tried to get this to be the theme song on the new Nickelodeon show but we were turned down because the Jonas Brothers came up with some more hardcore than this watered down pop radio hit!!! Hey You!!! please buy our shit!!

  • well hes right, this song never fails to give me the gay feeling, like when watching a comic bombing on stage

  • Well if the song makes you have a gay fantasy then I advise you to stop listening to it and stop bitching over YouTube. Rate the video a 1 star and be gay somewhere else.

  • Well you clearly do care, or you wouldnt have taken the time to answer. Just tossing it out there that after many many great songs, this one is just chalk full of poppy elements and cheesy melodies. I dont know why people defend their favorite bands to the death. Ill be the first to admit that RHCP or Rush (my favorite bands) have put out some real stinkers. And guess what, people come and blast those songs on the comment section, so I dont feel too guilty.

  • Do you go to CSM by any chance at all?

  • What is that?

  • Oh I thought you were someone I knew..... who has the exact name of Phil Ritter lol. And the sarcasm to which you typed the comment on made me think you were him. But that's not a bad thing, cuz it was a funny ass comment.

What's your favorite CDs from 311?

  • you're cool.

  • i like this song and beatuiful disaster the best

  • Nice tune. "Amber" was a nice little tune. Peace only in the Lord.

  • I'm not really into this band but I like this song.

  • too many haters! the album is great.

if you want something fast go listen to metallica or deicide. This is 311 -it has different varieties.

  • older shit is better...

  • 311311311311311311311311311311311311

  • finally they're back!!!

  • i hated when people criticize this band.First of all these guys are better musically... Go criticize emo bands or something.

    311 rules fuckers

  • lol, some of these comments crack me up. Like 311 hasn't been releasing albums since 1990

  • Nice! I just heard this on the radio today.... first 311 song I've heard, and they're damn good... kinda reminds me of Sublime a little

  • i love the album art. might have to pick this one up

  • arielrazvratitu, i feel you on the fact he's a lucky d-bag, but without the great contribution of the best midwest band in ages new album. i give him thanks cause now i want the uplifter album even more, then also i want the album by STEEL PANTHER..."FEEL THE STEEL"

  • hey brokenaffliction, you're a dick. besides the fact that you don't say such things on a public website like this, it's a sign of disrespecting the band and the band's work to get their album earlier than its scheduled release.

    peace
