@Matthiaswandel i know i did twice... and the only one that has the "gear" that is straight not round is in your program but im not gonna buy the program to make 2 gears.
@Matthiaswandel omg... dont take this like im mad but i know im not worried about the rounded gear i know your other template has it... i need a "gear" you could call it that is straight! you know a line straight. im making a drill press but i need a "gear" that is a straight line idc about the rounded one. what im looking for is at :30sec in your vid! the straight one to be exact
Do you have a video on the actual threaded bar part (the part that moves it back and forth), because i have made a router table but too adjust the height i need to manually lift the router which is a right pain because its heavy and awkward to get too.
A little tip I use to transfer printed drawings to the wood is to place it face down on the wood. Then with a cloth I wipe over the paper with mineral turps. Other type chemicals may work, white spirit etc. This cause the ink to transfer onto the wood giving an exact mirror image. With a bit of practice you can get really good results....
This is a great video and your website is of the most sweetness. I too have a question about your program. Do you have a program that can do inverted gears? For instance a circle with the gears in the inside. Thx for the video.
That would be ring gears. Yes, the program can do that. Click on the link in the description to go to the page, and from there you can find links to the program.
@Matthiaswandel Hey thanks I found it and also see that you have the option to evaluate the program which I think is great. The planetary gears look incredible. This looks like a must have program, looking forward to trying it out.
Have you actually used this in an environment where it's being run all the time such as a wind turbine? How is wear and tear? I think this is a genius concept, as wood is much easier and cheaper to work with!
As a regular human on youtube, I have a question: a lot of times you say "we'll test to see if it works"... and it always works! So do you have redo the whole thing it if doesn't? It looks like there is no room for error in every single step. How often does it happen to superhumans like you?
I made your box joint tool and found everything working perfectly... The gear cutting files worked perfectly. I took the hpgl file into corel and exported as a .dxf to convert it. I then took it to VcarvePro and made the gears on my CNC. I used a tapered ball end bit to finish the inside taper... Love your stuff...
You have so many tools! Can you make a tutorial guide on which set of instruments shall be of must in every woodworks shop? If you make it, certainly, a lot of people will be grateful to you. Thanks in advance!
I got bearings tat are 5/16 center holes. I got a 5/16 threaded bar with 18 teeth per inch. I know that you have a 3/8 threaded bar with 16 teeth with 12 and 48 tooth gears on your box jig, four turns moves it 16 teeth= one inch.
My question is since I have a 5/16 bar that has eighteen teeth, if I also have a 12 and 48 tooth gears, will it be 18 teeth=one inch?
Very stunning. Don't you think it could be useful to add (by software) a radial line in the middle between two teeth in order to have a mark where point the awl? Thank's for your videos.
Template sticking. 3M do a range of spray glue in cans called Mount, ie Spray Mount, Display Mount, Re Mount, I cannot remember which is which, but they carry different levels of tack, and are the type of glues used Post Its. Unlike PVA or more perminant glues, you will find one of this range which will be great for paper to wood as a tempary fix.
I am very impressed with your way of simply making wood geaars adn plan to use this to make a gear set for a rope maker for my son's Boy Scout troop. Should not need beveling angles for flat mesh but will work will as it is basic gears...
I have had good luck with rubber cement to mount the paper. Some types (not all) peel right off when you are done. Experiment. I use a type i bought at Staples. Great video - amazing - nothing like wood!
I have an article about beginnging woodworking on woodgears.ca.Best to ue the search box on the front pae to find it (sorry, can't include URLs in youtube comments)
I watch all your videos and I want work with wood too, but I do not know how to begin. What tools do you suggest for a beginner? Can you make a video giving tips for those who want to start doing interesting things with wood?
I would like to make gears and other shapes but what tool should you have for this? You use a bandsaw, but bandsaws are pretty expensive. Or perhaps a scroll saw?
Exceptional quality of your videos to show the way how its made and build. Great compliment from my side. You're really marking a milestone in woodworking education Matthias. keep up your great work.
Dude, you should make a plug holder for the center, so that it will spin perfectly on the bad saw anc create a perfect circle, rater than trying to do it by hand.
I thought about casting these in aluminum and was wondering if it was possible for them to work with a slight angle on the teeth. So after watching this I'm going to have to try it sometime this winter. Thanks! And as always, great videos and info. Keep up the great work.
Okay, I've just tested this under Ubuntu 10.04 and Wine. You need to install Mono 2.4 (./winetricks mono24), add the wineHQ ppa (ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa) and install Wine 1.3. Not tested printing yet but it all looks good. Of course, I bought it :)
Thanks for sharing these videos. I have a project that would involve gears and a flywheel but it isn't my expertise. Your video shows that I could make the gears myself! Drilling a hole for each tooth to have a smooth and consistent notch was awesome to see!
