that is coooool and neat woodengear job

  • I want to add a Like, but I don't want to break the 1111 likes vs 11 dislikes stuff.

But I will add this video to my prefs.

    Awesome work! :D

  • that is great woodworking

  • Man, you are great. Thanks for the useful video you provide. It helps me too much.

  • My hat is is off to you, man! Your work is unbelievable!!!

  • I think I must be the most uninformed person on the planet...this is the sweetest thing I have ever seen....ur my new favorite channel.

  • AMAZING!!!!! Nice Job!!!!

  • why type of glue do you have in the little bowl?

  • Yellow carpenter's glue.

  • i like this video but not the fact that i need to buy the program cuz im making drill press gears and i need something that is straight up and down

  • Please watch the video again, there are other options, mentioned in the video.

  • @Matthiaswandel i know i did twice... and the only one that has the "gear" that is straight not round is in your program but im not gonna buy the program to make 2 gears.

  • I have the free gear template generator online.

It makes curved teeth just like the other one.

  • @Matthiaswandel omg... dont take this like im mad but i know im not worried about the rounded gear i know your other template has it... i need a "gear" you could call it that is straight! you know a line straight. im making a drill press but i need a "gear" that is a straight line idc about the rounded one. what im looking for is at :30sec in your vid! the straight one to be exact

  • The guy really had a nice selection of tools. Very nice vid. too. Jealous about ur tools a lil bit.

  • Excellent Video!!!

  • I've heard of gearheads before, but this is first for a wooden gearhead..........Great Video!

  • come si mettono nel progamma 3 ruote

  • Craftsmen like you are the reason I watch U tube.

    thanks

  • You know...with these gears, I'm seriously imagining a giant Spirograph set.... (^_^)

  • great video. thanks for uploading.

  • Do you have a video on the actual threaded bar part (the part that moves it back and forth), because i have made a router table but too adjust the height i need to manually lift the router which is a right pain because its heavy and awkward to get too.

  • I actually watched the video from start to finish with great interest, excellent tutorial, look forward to watching more of your vids.

  • A little tip I use to transfer printed drawings to the wood is to place it face down on the wood. Then with a cloth I wipe over the paper with mineral turps. Other type chemicals may work, white spirit etc. This cause the ink to transfer onto the wood giving an exact mirror image. With a bit of practice you can get really good results....

  • @SolarPoweredGardener Ooo, that's a good idea! Gotta remember that!

  • You are an alien. The peoples from earth cannot do such things as you electronic video reproduction device shows...greetings.

  • Wow, that was very impressive. Thanks so much for taking the time to share that with us. Great video and awesome creation.

  • do you have a program that can do gears that are rings, with the teeth on the side of them?

  • Yes, see the program.

  • @Matthiaswandel wow, will do

  • Just to know, what is that woodmade thing behind your band saw? What is the purpose of that? Thank you very much!

  • @lulaz the band saw itself... it is a homemade bandsaw made out of wood.

  • Thank you SO much! This is really an incredible thing you've done and it is VERY much appreciated!

  • Matthias you are a genius! - Well done :-)

  • Have you tried using routers instead of drilling each gear manually? I like what you are able to invent - congratulations!

  • Very cool. Going to check out your site now and see how I can apply the technology to my shop. Thank you much!

  • Brilliant. What more can I say?

  • This is a great video and your website is of the most sweetness. I too have a question about your program. Do you have a program that can do inverted gears? For instance a circle with the gears in the inside. Thx for the video.

  • That would be ring gears. Yes, the program can do that. Click on the link in the description to go to the page, and from there you can find links to the program.

  • @Matthiaswandel Hey thanks I found it and also see that you have the option to evaluate the program which I think is great. The planetary gears look incredible. This looks like a must have program, looking forward to trying it out.

  • Have you actually used this in an environment where it's being run all the time such as a wind turbine? How is wear and tear? I think this is a genius concept, as wood is much easier and cheaper to work with!

  • Awesome!

  • what kind of wood do you use?

  • Great Video Thank you.

  • You know...I wonder if some enterprising home foundryman couldn't use these as patterns for a metal casting! =D

  • dude i have been using your software to make gear templates and i didn't realize that it was your program

  • dear Sir, is that a band saw? I am not very familiar of eqipments , I am new with this stuffs, thank anyway

  • This is very helpful. Thanks!

  • As a regular human on youtube, I have a question: a lot of times you say "we'll test to see if it works"... and it always works! So do you have redo the whole thing it if doesn't? It looks like there is no room for error in every single step. How often does it happen to superhumans like you?

  • I have made gears before. It's really not that hard.

  • @jakesee i know what you mean. Every poject im oike "lets see if it works!" More often than not it doessnt.

  • WOW, Thank you very much for teaching how to - I want to make a router table just like yours

do you have setup plans etc?

  • Yes, I do in fact. Go to woodgears.ca and search for "router lift"

  • Respect and thank you!

  • Nice tutorial ....thank you

  • I made your box joint tool and found everything working perfectly... The gear cutting files worked perfectly. I took the hpgl file into corel and exported as a .dxf to convert it. I then took it to VcarvePro and made the gears on my CNC. I used a tapered ball end bit to finish the inside taper... Love your stuff...

  • Excellent video thanks

  • You have so many tools! Can you make a tutorial guide on which set of instruments shall be of must in every woodworks shop? If you make it, certainly, a lot of people will be grateful to you. Thanks in advance!

  • woow, now i gonna make a wood robot, thanks man finally

  • I got bearings tat are 5/16 center holes. I got a 5/16 threaded bar with 18 teeth per inch. I know that you have a 3/8 threaded bar with 16 teeth with 12 and 48 tooth gears on your box jig, four turns moves it 16 teeth= one inch.

My question is since I have a 5/16 bar that has eighteen teeth, if I also have a 12 and 48 tooth gears, will it be 18 teeth=one inch?

If not could you explain my confusion.

    Thanks

  • GOOD! I can finally Make my own Lathing Machine!!!!

  • sick man i will try it

  • Very stunning. Don't you think it could be useful to add (by software) a radial line in the middle between two teeth in order to have a mark where point the awl? Thank's for your videos.

  • great video

  • Memorizing video

  • o wamt to haver your tools i will be happy XD

  • from now im your fan XD thansk for the gear template generator is so good

  • You are a little crude and in-precise on making the gears. It would not take much to tighten up your accuracy. It seems to work your way.

  • THANKS!!! im making a windmill, or a wind powered grind mill, i need to make gears and they never work! thanks for the help!

  • Whatever you planet you are from, I hope to visit it someday.

  • Thank you SOOOOOOOO much.

    So clear

    So concise

    Much appreciated

  • I want your tools :D

  • Do you know how to make internal gears?

  • use lazer cut

  • I just use a lathe + a CNC milling machine, and aluminium or steel. I then throw it into a walnut shell polisher, and sell them.

  • You used double vertical gears to eliminate slop and play, right?

Thanks for all these awesome videos by the way.

  • Template sticking. 3M do a range of spray glue in cans called Mount, ie Spray Mount, Display Mount, Re Mount, I cannot remember which is which, but they carry different levels of tack, and are the type of glues used Post Its. Unlike PVA or more perminant glues, you will find one of this range which will be great for paper to wood as a tempary fix.

Great to see your work & the quality of the film.

    Regards Bob

  • EXCELLENT! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  • i dont know why i watched this, i have no need to make a gear...

but i watched it... :P dont ask me why because i dont know :S

  • Do you make metal gears?

  • Do you live in Home Depot?

  • I am very impressed with your way of simply making wood geaars adn plan to use this to make a gear set for a rope maker for my son's Boy Scout troop. Should not need beveling angles for flat mesh but will work will as it is basic gears...

  • whats your job?

  • Great tallent

  • Some Prit-stick maybe better to temp stick the template

  • Genius!

  • You are a master craftsman!

  • CAN YOU PLEASE SPEAK WITH MY DAD ON HOW HE CAN DO GEARS THAT ARE A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX. HE'S LOOKING FOR WOODEN REDUCTION GEARS. THANK YOU.

  • Thank you mr Wandel for your extremely generosity, this vid has helped me a lot to complete my last project.

    God bless you

  • You are the Bob Ross of wood working. I think I'm going to have to buy that gear generator for making finger joints.

  • What can be done to make the gear more quieter??

  • Incredible work Matthias... Thanks for sharing!

  • Yet another winner. Thanks.

  • I went to the hospital today, I was in a semi-conscious state, my eyes were stuck open, and the doctor came in the room...

I was diagnosed with a blown mind... the last thing I saw before my mind was blown was this video!

This video blew my mind O.O

  • That's a liability issue I hadn't even contemplated!

  • @actinoidify Hehe I like that

  • wow u sure are a very sophisticated man

  • this is amazing !! Congrats !!!

  • I have had good luck with rubber cement to mount the paper. Some types (not all) peel right off when you are done. Experiment. I use a type i bought at Staples. Great video - amazing - nothing like wood!

  • Your videos make me want to own a bandsaw.

Oh, and a lot of plywood too.

  • I have an article about beginnging woodworking on woodgears.ca.Best to ue the search box on the front pae to find it (sorry, can't include URLs in youtube comments)

  • I watch all your videos and I want work with wood too, but I do not know how to begin. What tools do you suggest for a beginner? Can you make a video giving tips for those who want to start doing interesting things with wood?

  • hey matthias great video..

i'm an aspiring engineer and i hope one day i'll be as brilliant as you

  • Comment removed

  • You're simply awesome. Thanks for sharing!

  • LOVE all your vids Matthias !!!

  • I would like to make gears and other shapes but what tool should you have for this? You use a bandsaw, but bandsaws are pretty expensive. Or perhaps a scroll saw?

  • You can use a scrollsaw too. Just that it cuts a bit slower.

Or you could look up my bandsaw plans and build your own bandsaw!

  • About how long does it take for you to make one of these gears?

  • Some powdered graphite in the teeth would give you some really good friction reduction.

  • You're one fascinating dude!

  • Nice tutorial Matthias!

  • Man , you really know what you are doing, my respect for you and your work.

  • Woodgod would be a good channel-name for you, Matthias Wandel!

i really like your videos! keep them coming!

  • Exceptional quality of your videos to show the way how its made and build. Great compliment from my side. You're really marking a milestone in woodworking education Matthias. keep up your great work.

    kind regards from Mannheim, Germany.

  • Nice video!! Very useful

I like how you made it

  • Nice video!! Very useful

I like how you made it

  • I wish I had a shop like yours!

  • Fascinating...

  • Dude, you should make a plug holder for the center, so that it will spin perfectly on the bad saw anc create a perfect circle, rater than trying to do it by hand.

  • I thought about casting these in aluminum and was wondering if it was possible for them to work with a slight angle on the teeth. So after watching this I'm going to have to try it sometime this winter. Thanks! And as always, great videos and info. Keep up the great work.

  • Okay, I've just tested this under Ubuntu 10.04 and Wine. You need to install Mono 2.4 (./winetricks mono24), add the wineHQ ppa (ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa) and install Wine 1.3. Not tested printing yet but it all looks good. Of course, I bought it :)

  • Thanks for testing that out.

Printing is pretty key though. It was the ease of doing antialiased graphics to the screen and printer that made me pick c#

  • Thanks for sharing these videos. I have a project that would involve gears and a flywheel but it isn't my expertise. Your video shows that I could make the gears myself! Drilling a hole for each tooth to have a smooth and consistent notch was awesome to see!

  • Do some kind of "wood gears machine" or something like it, just to show your great work!

  • please keep making videos

  • @paralasalud What they said!

  • An advantage to making these instead of buying all of it: if something goes wrong you know how to fix it (or make and replace worn parts). No need to call some helpdesk in India just to get told to buy a 'repair kit' ;-)

  • You have great ideas. Thanks for sharing.

  • You + wood = Magic!!! :D

  • gee if only i had a band saw

  • Wow I am only 15 but I after I watch a video of yours, I want to get my own workshop and do all the stuff you do in your videos :O It's amazing, love your work, keep it up Matthias!

  • you programmer also???

  • This inspires me to do wood working...

  • Very good job. As usial for you Matthiaswandel. Keep on.

  • I think most of his viewers don't know why they watch it, but enjoy the videos

  • @iTony11 Agreed, 'cuz I do it too :D

  • @iTony11 The reason I watch his videos is because I dream of having a woodshop so I can just do some of the things he does. My garage is really just a storage place like most peoples but could have a nice woodshop if I were to put some money into it. Can't wait to build my bandsaw!

  • @iTony11 its kind of mesmerizing

  • @iTony11 LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Very interesting and imformative video. Like and fave.

  • That's a great piece of software. What did you use to make it? MFC? Qt?

  • C# and .net.

It's a pretty good system, just no way to port it to non-windows.

  • @Matthiaswandel Actually, yes, there is, google "mono project" htt p // mono - project (dot) com

  • @Danny77uk Ah that's a shame as there are a lot more people out there using Mac and Linux than you might think.

  • @Danny77uk Couldn't it run in "wine" - that's a kind of windows emulator used on linux. (I don't know the jargon, so don't ask me any questions on it). haha

  • Mac, yes. But linux folks don't buy very much.

  • @Matthiaswandel linux? who the hell uses linux as an OS?

  • @nunvikingsofthesea

The server you are typing your comment on uses Linux as an OS.

  • Comment removed

  • @nunvikingsofthesea

Me, but it got this program working under wine easily.

  • @Matthiaswandel Linux folks buy a bunch, they just dont want to support someone whom is charging out the ass for their products. if you can get something for free that works just as well, wouldnt you get that too?

  • @Matthiaswandel Not necessarily true - Look at the humble bundle - multiplatform games "pay what you want" release - Linux users voluntarily paid more than Windows users.

  • Well, but what was the total for each? Right now, doubling my development effort for a 10% increase in sales is just not worth it.

  • @Matthiaswandel Absolutely. I'd prefer that you spend more time doing stuff that you enjoy, rather than trying to move to a multiplatform development model - Which is hardly ever fun. BTW, it was approximately 50 - 25 - 25 split in revenue between Windows / Mac / Linux. Keep doing the interesting videos - It's very much appreciated, even by us Linux geeks.

  • awesome

  • Awesome as always!

  • awesome!!

  • @xgThreat D':

  • awesome , not sure why i watched this though

  • @Tamuz95 rofl i think everyone here thinks that

  • Nice

  • @xgThreat I read it. I watched. I read it again. I lol'd.

  • Great tutorial, Matthias! Thanks for sharing.

  • cool

  • amazing!

  • You are a really handy person!
