Edgar Allen Poe must have had it HAAAARD. that dude was tortured dayand night by stuff that would normally scare the living fuck out of other people. thats why i love his work so much. he has to be the scariest story wrighter ever to exist. to hell with stephen king.
@MrAlchemist009 This album has kept me sane during times of emotional turmoil since I was 19! I'm now 49! Its not only scary it touches deeper darker parts in the psyche that can be incredibly liberating!
The song he picked is, in fact, "The Raven," by Alan Parsons Project, from "Tales of Mystery and Imagination," 1976. Every song on the album is based on a Poe story or poem.
If you feel the music doesn't fit Poe's dark atmosphere - I agree - but you should probably direct your criticism to Alan Parsons rather than the creator of this video. : )
I honestly thought I'd hate this when I clicked on it (I had just heard the Christopher Walken reading... so standards were high!) but I can sincerely say I was shocked by the quality of this ... Goes without saying I'm keeping this. Very well done! Extremely well done? Might very well say so ... Wow! =) cheers!
Nice animation, simple but shows you know well the poem and inspirations, overall it's good idea that you used Poe himself as main character. This would have been intriguing for the songwriter of this, Eric Woolfson, which wrote a musical called Edgar Allan Poe (now running in Germany) which is a crossover of Poe's life and works. Even the original "Tales" had this intention somehow.
As a teacher, I can see using this as an after reading and discussing kind of activity. By this time the kiddos will know what is going on as they watch. Great job to whoever made this!
Une belle et juste interprétation du texte de Poe, à la fois dans la maîtrise technique et dans l'atmosphère suggérée, tout en y mêlant originalité et modernité... une petite perle d'animation ! =)
cheers to the poe toaster :D

What other renditions are there? I have found them. Let me know about your treasures.
xviisecolo 2 years ago
Well there's Christopher Walken's of course, not to mention Vincent Price's.
Probably my all time favorite reading of The Raven would have to be
Basil Rathbone's rendition from The Edgar Allan Poe audio collection put out by Caedmon Audio which you can probably also find here on YouTube.
