Aehmmm..? He has no second hand, does he? If one was serious about graping the wrists (besides that usually happens for defense, not attack...) he is likely going to grap both each one with one of his TWO hands.
If anyone is realy concerend about what would be the fastest way of releasing the (however wrong and foolish) graping a womans arm in order to make him face once more as she intends to go away in a club night situation - that is hardly self defense and you should not wast time for that
@lingsterquinn This is complete and total crap. DO NOT listen to this, I do a form martial arts, Shorinji Kempo, that specializes in escaping grabs, it is not as esay doing a "block."
Well I am a martial artist and a self defense instructor with 10 years of experiance. I have been in real life situations. And This technique is exelent for self defense.
@MasterNinja1990 If someone big enough was really grabbing her, while it may not be very to escape, she wouldnt be able to do it with just a "block" (ive had seven years of training if that gives me any credibility)
I have studied martial arts almost every day for 10years. I have practiced Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Capoera, Hapkido, Wing Chun kung fu and Tai Chi Chuan. I know 6 different kind of weapon forms. I am currently a Karate, Tai Chi and self defense instructor. I have studied with Jason David Frank. And I say you are wrong. This is a good technique, that with a little practice, will work. No technique in the world is bulletproof. So your way of thinking serves no purpose.
@MasterNinja1990 I still dont like it. Besides, its much better to do any sort of release technique with a wide, open hand, not a fist. Tensing up makes it easier for them to grab you.
Ok, I respect that. But tensing up also makes you stronger. It is his weak point (the thumb) that is the trick. Togheter with your technique, speed and the element of suprise. Nice to talk to you have a good day.
@MasterNinja1990 well before you go, tensing doesnt neccessarily make you stronger. If you pay attention to your breath cycle, there are certain points in which you are stronger and your opponent is more vulnerable. (e.i. kiai, or a silent exhalation give you a suprising amount of strength, that is if you believe in chi)) nice to talk with you too
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! :D I was so angry today after thinking about how unfair it is that men have greater muscle mass...and that my male cousin who is one year younger than me and very skinny can keep an iron grip on my hand ( lol we were attempting to be ninjas)... I COULD NOT PULL MY HAND OUT!!!! I was so angry about this but now after seeing this I feel better :D
@MasterNinja1990 i'm sayin you try the technique and they counterattack. what do you do then? these random videos wont help in a real situation. some guys dont stop when you "wrist release"
No but you will be in a better position to run away or fight back. Ever stop and think about that now mister smarty pants. No situation is the same. And if you can get free without having to start a fight and risk getting hurt or going to jail, then thats your best option. Besides, she teches you a lot of karate techniques that you could use to bash the attacker if you wanted to.
Oh and NO I was not wearing a slut dress and I was not drunk either! A dog is a dog, wont matter what a woman wears! Women are attacked in their sweat pants, nuns are attacked, so the guy speaking bollocks about women deserving it can go grow a pair!
Every one bitching a moaning, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE. This WORKS. I USED IT 3 weeks ago in a club, it's a simple technique, the guy let go and shat his pants and walked away! Why would I then go ans start shredding his eyes out and kicking his head in, he tried to get my attention aggressively but grabbing my wrist (which he had no right too), and gave him a firm hint to 'fuck off' - Leave it at that!
you're right this works, but once someone attacks you you must always finish the attacker for your own safety. But u didn't gett attacked so doing nothing worked for you.
@DragonZord90 My thumb is stronger than my girlfriend's arm, haha. But with a perfect jerking motion and perhaps help with the other arm I'd say it's very possible for her to get out. But then what happens?
Rather than show one technique she should really put it into context though. Doing the release will achieve little in and of itself against a committed attacker. It should be followed up swiftly with a counter attack.
Now this one I like better than most of her other videos. I've trained this release a bit and used it with succes even on guys much bigger and stronger than me. It's failed me a few times though... I think because I didn't do it fast enough. So to make it reliable you probably have to practice it quite a bit so that you'll get the speed right.
Bullshit, Id love to see a 50 kg girl making this release on non-cooperative 80 kg guy.Kick him to groin instead or shins with your shoes, smash his insteps with your heels, shred his face, shout on him and do not stop attacking until he releases you and dont worry that he wont.
Yes this does work. Using your two arms is more powerful than his single thumb, but my criticism again on her videos is wtf do you do now? Your arms are free and everything you do is now predictable. You have your assailant's attention after that charade, and a simple kick to the groin isn't exactly easy to pull off.
some guy walks by and grabs your wrist lolz.... u go to a club and some guy walks by and grabs your wrist... lolz what are the chances of that happening... u got one if he grabs your breasts? u should do one where he grabs your breasts :S
I have a self defense tip for you ladies...... don't go out clubbing with your friends because a club is not a safe place for a lady, do not wear provocative clothing and act like cats on heat and no one will bother you or want to grab your wrists in the first place...FIRST RULE OF SELF DEFENSE IS CONSTANT AWARENESS AND AVOIDANCE....... SECOND RULE; WING TSUN LESSONS
@d4mn4tion That's right ladies, listen to d4mn4tion. Stay home on the farm and keep milking them cows and Jebediah will be home with supper before nightfall. Praise the Lord, Amen.
srry but this is really bad advice, u cannot take one movement out of context and think it will help ppl at all. There are thousand factors involved and u should at least work on the universal solution taking many more factors into consideration to allow urself to minimize decision making while the blood is actually rushing to ur legs. If u learn something, learn something that will fit 90% of the follow ups..... sorry but how much adrenaline and psych. studies are involved here? question it
@360shon , I don't think this self defence will get you out of a street fight so you are right in a half. The other half is that it will work in a public place, where the agressor knows that if he punch you he is gonna get in trouble, so instead he grabs you to keep you close to him or pull you out of the public eyes. This girl is missing that explanation, but the technique is good.
I'm missing technique explanation. You don't get out of a firm wrist grab that easily, just by 'scooping ice cream'.
In fact, my style of kung fu teaches with the explanation that you must hold your wrist (more or less) on the same place while rotating your arm from the elbow. To the side, without an angle. But i understand that this would be too complicated for untrained women's self defence.
@360shon In this case, it's not an attack. It's someone who is grabby and annoying, like a drunk guy getting greedy on a woman. In these cases of man as agressor against a woman, this happens more than a guy actually trying to punch the woman.
Miss, you should actually try these moves in a real situation, or just let your partner go amok on you while you try any of your moves to actually see if it works. You probably don't see this in the way a skilled martial artist does (and no offense), but you're doing more damage if you make people think these moves work than you're helping. If a move looks good in your head, then it means it probably isn't.
Myth, Guys are not the only wolves out there. There are female wolves who are attractive, fit, aggressive, clever, cunning and manipulative too. Rather than using the word guys in all your video, attacker or aggressor would be better. You have to be careful with both genders when out and about these days. Knuckleheads come in all shapes, sizes and neighborhoods.
@mattrR678 I agree with you 100%.. I just was pointing out that there are females wolves and bears in the forest too, to add to the conversation. We certainly can overpower females wolves and bears unless they use poison, certain weapons or instigate a fight between us dudes. After we over power them we will need to be bailed out of jail for assault and battery charges, lol.
@360shon so then you would simply block with your free arm. breaking the grip only requires one arm. so he grabs you, you release it, and by the time his strike comes, it is weak because he is off balance, and you easily block it. you guys keep assuming that martial arts moves like these are done step by step over a period of several seconds. no. they grab, you release, less than one second. we both know this woman would land you on your back if you attacked her.
I understand where this is coming from but it's not that easy though. Some people are trained to GRIP and GRIP HARD!! Ever heard of professional Judo wrestlers? You would need a crow bar to get them off.
@nilsifrabyn - "or u can kick him in the balls" - 1 problem here. If the ONLY technique women do is 'ball kicking', it becomes waaaay too PREDICTABLE and therefore easy to counter. Do you not watch Jackie Chan movies? Someone already tried that on him and FAILED. Predictability sucks. I know. So you better think of something else, something he would never expect!
"Just do block 1 or 2 and it will take you to safety". Aha, yeah. Sure, like an assailant would say: "Golly, you broke my grip. Now I'm going to have to stand here and let you run away or do all sorts of nasty self defense things to me."
im like freaking 6'4, great shape and a small asain girl training in like Jiu Jitsu knew how to fight...broke me down...and choked me (it was sparring and she had more technique).
@shadowcar88 "im like freaking 6'4, great shape and a small asain girl ...broke me down..." <---- then why are you acting like this move is not possible or can't be done because the man is stronger??? you're contradicting yourself.
thats why MANY people who train in a martial art survive alot of confrontations on the street but even the greatest fighters avoid street fights if they can but if they are attacked they know what to do!
oh and the best "anti-rape" classes are Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Sambo, and wrestling classes. all of those involve close combat with grabbing and e.t.c world class fighters train in these along with other striking arts!
attention people! go to a fight place and learn personally!
Honestly, the best "self defence classes" you can get is by simply going to a fight gym like a Muay Thai gym, Boxing Gym, or a Wrestling place, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu/judo/SAMBO
those are a good list of VERY effective Martial Arts where they will make you spar and pressure test your skills against other students if they have a fight team its a very good sign! learning how to fight will work in self defence situations and give u confidence
@shadowcar88 "Honestly, the best "self defence classes" you can get is by simply going to a fight gym like a Muay Thai gym," <--- well, muay thai is a martial art, and it teaches stuff like what is in this video too
Yesssssssssss!!! "This is the magic button lalala" at 1:34! Very smart!!! And then a back slap by the guy or a simple twist and attack with the other arm as he rotates and there you go. Not that any of her movements were any good. No plan B, no counter...and always open for further violence!
It is as if you are afraid of bullets and then you jump on a huge hall just to let them throw grenades in...
Some people should NOT teach at all. What are her qualifications anyway?
@FanatikosKafetzis uh, at 1:34 he can't reach with his other arm dude. Are you another MMA jock who thinks females can't do martial arts? Try Gina Cirano! (although she is an mma person rather than a martial artist) and, I think the user iamopenminded said he knows her IRL and she is a high level black belt or something.
Are you serious? Can he not spin and throw a back fist as she pushes his other arm??? This is what I am talking about. There are many "what if" issues with this and she tackles none.
I saw also another video where she advertised the absolute perfection of the horse stance against a pull and when the guy pulled her in another way she said "no no no this way"...
Not sure what martial art this is but I just learned defense from a wrist grab today in goju and it's way nastier than this. First, we kick or knee to the groin then stomp. We then bring the opposing hand down and smash the hand of the attacker while pulling the grabbed hand back to chamber and finally palm strike to the face. Seems more aggressive but effective.
@majin2912 well, that would work also, but the technique in the vid is basically what I was taught in Tae Kwon Do in high school. Not exactly, but pretty much the same. With practice, it looks like you're just flicking your wrist, but the specific way you're moving your arm is critical. You don't just move your arm to the right in a straight line, that wouldn't do it. You have to get the rotation.
you can search my favorites on my youtube channel and I have alot of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu videos its great! expecially for women who are big targets in the street!
in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu or Judo you will learn so much!
Please! if there is anyone watching this video believing this video please remember ONE of the BEST ways to learn self defence is to go to a fighting gym! such as Brazillian Jiu Jitsu (wich is also known as BJJ) or look up Judo! wrestling! SAMBO! go to a place that teaches you how to fight and make sure they have a team of fighters! wich is a good sign. its so simple just go there and LEARN all of these self defence vids on youtube are dumb,
@Rushfan32935 that's the MMA jock response, emotion. Well, guess what, the attacker's other hand is free, and one of your arms is not. Good luck striking his eyes, ears or anything like that. It makes more sense to get your arm free so you can run away or at least respond to anything else he is going to do. And these moves DO work. I've done them with guys bigger than me, and I have seen females do it. It is physics, I guess MMA jocks don't understand that.
@neutrino78x I'm not an MMA jock. I don't even know MMA. I'm just smart enough to know that if the guy can't see you, it's a whole lot easier to get away. lol
Shadowman write: "A lot of people treat a wrist grab like its the attack, but a wrist grab is not the attack its just a grab, What comes next is the attack and you better know what your doing or your going to get someone really hurt, Before you try to deal with the wrist grab you better put shock into your attacker."
Shadowman is "dead on" correct with this comment. Shock, attack, attack and keep attacking or else end up seriously hurt.
@mjdcgb "Shock, attack, attack and keep attacking or else end up seriously hurt." <--- this is not Karate/martial arts philosophy, this is MMA thinking. The victim is not in a position to "shock, attack" in this scenario. The move in the video puts you in a better position to do that or anything else...but like Mr. Miyagi said, "Karate for defense only".
fool, MMA fighters are extremely hard workers with undying spirits! just from your post you dont know anything about MMA. by the way MMA=mixed martial arts
alot of them have experience in..."MArtial Arts" MMA is also more of a sport term but its a place where Martial Artist fight everywhere! and your probably lying about the girls "knocking out big muscular men with slaps" your delusional ideas would get some one killed neutrino.
@shadowcar88 "nd your probably lying about the girls "knocking out big muscular men with slaps" " <--- uh, that's not what I said. What I said was that I have seen a 12 year old girl defeat a muscular gang member. Real martial arts, not MMA, was developed by intellectuals were not very strong. Buddhist monks, does that sound like a buff person to you? Kung Fu was invented by them.
@shadowcar88 really? tell me which martial art teaches that you should spend 20 minutes wrestling your opponent? if wrestling is supposedly the only way that two masters can win, why is it that there is a vid on youtube of a kung fu guy vs a TKD guy, and they sparred for 9 minutes until the KF guy won, but never wrestled? "Very rare fight kung fu vs taekwondo" also " Taekwondo(Korea) vs Kung fu(Shaolin,China) " MMA is a sport, not a martial art, FTW! lol @ mma jocks
@neutrino78x u do realize TKD and Kung fu are pretty random and Kung fu has a low effective record, people who do MMA have backgrounds in other martial arts lol
@shadowcar88 yeah well they may have "backgrounds" in martial arts, but they don't actually study those other arts. they just learn the moves. check out that video I mentioned, if MMA is real martial arts why doesn't it look like that video? because MMA is slow jocks. wrestling is for slow people (I mean slow in movement and reaction time, not slow as in stupid).
@neutrino78x your just trying 2 annoy people right? wrestling has alot of running and reaction! I could tell u havent fought any experienced wrestlers
@shadowcar88 I'm someone who has had a lot of bad experiences with jocks. My bullies when I was a little kid were all jocks...I was a little computer nerd/intellectual.
wait, so you were bullied...correct? and im guessing these Jocks are just bullies why must they be fighters picking on you? if they were fighters they should have known better but I kinda doubt u were being picked on the wrestling team, maybe the football team but if they just do football only they dont know anything about fighting except agression and great shape. the wrestling team KNOWS how to fight on the other hand
@shadowcar88 "I kinda doubt u were being picked on the wrestling team" <-- guess again. all the male jocks harassed me. So I am strongly biased against male jocks. The World would be better without them.
I apologize you were picked on by the Jocks, actually I'm still in High School and I really don't ever see any bullying because the wrestling is more outgoing and nice then the old 80's jock ass hole lol :) but trust me man not every one is like that
@neutrino78x i was bullied to, but this move isnt going to work when the guy is pulling you. Its to complicated. All u need to do is pull your writs out where the fingers interlock. Use two hands if u have to. See, unlike all these other "jacks" i have solutions :D.
@ikcjjtt hmm I'm not exactly sure what you mean, it sounds like you're talking about pulling backward with your forearm? If you're strong enough to slide your arm out like that, then obviously you can defeat the grip. This move is about defeating the grip when the other person is too strong to allow you to do that. And it isn't that complicated, I was taught something similar in TKD. Like she said, you just move your arm like you're blocking, it works great.
@shadowcar88 MMA, a martial art?NO.. Its only a sports with lots of rules so that the player comes home ALIVE.. Matrial arts, on the other hand, have tendencies to kill if they are threatened..there is no tap outs in real life..
where did you see me saying MMA is a martial art? its a simple fact that people who go to MMA gyms LEARN Martial Arts. ground fighting, crouching, e.t.c
@neutrino78x I teach Karate. The technique I described is from bunkai. It does not require strength to pull off just proper technique. Stoplookinatmyscreen is correct as is all of the others who have pointed out the weaknesses in this defense. Leverage only does not do the trick. Shadowman is also correct since there is no follow through. In a dynamic situation with a attacker her technique will not stop the attack. She needs a counter. A swing against the temple is a knockout blow.

@mjdcgb lol @ swing against the temple is a knockout blow...lmao. FIrst of all, the guy's other hand is free, and your other arm is not. So, if your arm gets anywhere near him, he will just block it. Plus this is supposedly with a woman/small guy vs big muscular guy, so the assumption is that a move that requires strength, such as a knockout blow to the face, would not work.
Also Neutrino, there is nothing wrong with fighting as a sport! its great and amazing test of the will and spirit! good Karate always has sparring in it! knockout blows to the face "requires" agression, technique, and a good amount of skill. infact many and more people who take Brazillian Jiu Jitsu e.t.c have survived many street confrontations. learning how to fight is the best way to learn self defence. not just practice one single little slap that wouldnt even work lol
The trick here, as the martial artist states in the video, that the human hand/arm can only rotate so far in certain directions. You're taking advantage of that with this move. You're really rotating against the thumb, and the thumb cannot defeat your whole arm. I'm sorry but not even Shamrock is going to be able to maintain grip with this. That's why he would lose against a real, skilled, quick martial artist, as opposed to an MMA/wrestling jock.
@neutrino78x You are wrong. She can hit the opponent's ear. Go ahead and let your sister, mother, girlfriend, wife, female relatives try the defense as demonstrated in the video in in a realistic and dynamic scenario then let us all of us know how it turned out.
@mjdcgb you must be one of those MMA jocks. Look, you don't have to be buff to do martial arts. It was invented by intellectuals, Shaolin monks. MONKS! Does that sound like buff people to you? If you want to move a big object and you're not strong enough, you use a lever, right? That's what this is doing. She can't get free by jerking her arm, because that is working against the whole hand/arm. The trick is to defeat the grip with leverage. That's what you see in this video. Leverage.
the part at 2:45, we also did that at the studio where I went...instructor called that "four wheel drive", where you use both arms. It is even more powerful. But really, one would normally work. using two is more psychological than anything else.
I think I wouldn't hate this video as much if she shows a follow up because once the hand is free the guy isn't going to stop, so now what are you going to do???? And like I said before a grab isn't an attack its just a grab you should move your body to the outside of the attacker to get away from his other weapons.
@shadowman45810 well yes of course, you always run away once you're free. he can grab you all day and you can keep getting out of it, this is why MMA sucks so much, because a real martial artist would not let someone take them down.
Ok since I've obviosly offended a lot of you that think this will work, I challenge you to come to Ohio Northern University and prove it. Let me know when you will be there I'll be the attacker and prove it can work. Put your money where your mouth is or shut up ;) As far as mechanically sound goes I know lots of women around 100lbs that could not pull this off on a larger guy, You do this to a guy high on drugs and intent on harming you and show me how long you'll last. Not long boys and girls
A lot of meatheads here commenting how this "doesn't work". It does work. It is skeletally/mechanically sound for getting yourself free of a grab by a larger person - as advertised.
Women are most often subjected to these grabs rather than being attacked by MMA fighters with chokeholds.
It's called "social context", but yeah, I'd expect that concept to be lost on meatheads who only see everything through tunnel vision of the ring.
@shihonage see this i respect alot of people come on here and think i know military martial arts so i know what works we yeah but no look at akkido nothing looks like they are getting physical with their attacker does it. so this works its made for the streets and people who think they are big and bad will get stuck so yes thank you shihonage you spoke the truth.
A lot of people treat a wrist grab like its the attack, but a wrist grab is not the attack its just a grab, What comes next is the attack and you better know what your doing or your going to get someone really hurt, Before you try to deal with the wrist grab you better put shock into your attacker ( doesn't matter how but we use Russell Stutely's B.A.R. method) or your techniques will fail 100% of the time if your attacker or partner is going all out. Train honest people
@TaniaHays That's what I think because they keep say quote " That won't work in a fight or your going to get a woman raped with this" but I believe in women learning self defense it works.
In reality rape is such a big problem (little boys are raped aswell- thought the majority of the assualted are women).I guess the cute, innocent virgin is still the ideal to men? But this is about equality.
I like it how everyone on Youtube thinks they're an expert on what works in the real world as though they've been in hundreds of street fights and have actually used the technique in trial and error in real life...
@rippabomb I think it's a macho thing where a lot of guys are too insecure to admit that a woman has the possibility of being strong enough to defend themselves from a man.
@kickerwithkick2 yea because even shadowman who supposedly been in karate for 30 years doesn't understand the concept of what works for you won't work for everybody.
.....more crap. Hell even the guy rolled his eyes like "this is crap". Oh yeah and your "assisted hand release" will not work either. If your attacker grabs you from straight ahead all you have to do is go up and over his own wrist and grab to hold him down in a lock in order to take control.......jackass.
@ALPHA00301 ima say it like this look at the girls feet her feet look funny she knows how to kick so um you don't know much about women do you they will work until they will be able to get out of things it's a great trait but sometimes they will do alot more than they should and leave the attacker dead hahah naw women are vary smart remember that and if you have a better way to do it then make videos for women
If a man is attacking a woman and wants to beat her, this might postpone the pending beat down for perhaps a moment, but this stuff won't work against someone determined to do something to her.
By the way, I really liked this video. It was practical, easy to understand and easy to learn. Delivered by an appealing expert. Keeping putting them up Audrey!
easy to understand ... yes; practical ... NO. I teach rape prevention seminars and this is not very practical. If someone all of a sudden grabbed you, without any warning, your first reponse would be to flinch. You then need to take the kinetic energy produced by the flinch and turn it in to a tactical counter - use the free hand to strike the eyes or throat - he will let go of your wrist, and you didn't even have to know a wrist grab escape to make him let go.
So quick to call a manuever crap? I'd like to see you hold on as she's snapping your wrist off. And, if it won't break, the strike on your elbow can be pretty devestating if you refuse to let go. You seem just like the sort. There are multitudes of responses for the multitudes of conditions. I'm looking forward to seeing your suggestion for getting out of a wrist grab. Then, I'm going to tell you how that won't work.
@stoplookinatmyscreen well its not a fight if its with a girl man you guys need to give these woman some credit dude whats wrong with her spreading her knowledge This woman's trying to help and you guys just talk people down please could you let her be and do what she believes is right.
@rippabomb just because she beleves its right does not make it so, Hundreds of years ago the world was flat and you couldn't argue against it or you were a nutjob, but we know now that , the earth is not flat and its good to question everything, I've been studying martial arts and self defense for almost 30 years so I kind of know what will work and what wont.
@rippabomb isn't it better to practice things proven to work? not just things that work sometimes as you put it? Check out Russell Stutely's OCFM system, that will work guranteed.
@shadowman45810 a yo if you been practicing for 30 years you should know what works for you might not work for other people even if its proven it might not work for all women
@rippabomb I'm done with you, you obviously have no idea what your talking about. All of us on here are apparently wrong and you are right, but seriously lose your ego. Like I keep saying if this works under pressure then good, But as shown by itself it will not work. Look at my self defense videos and you will see a big diff in the training because we eventually take away the compliance and the women find out pretty quick what works and what does not!!!
@rippabomb The only reason you won't look at my vids is because of your ego, let go of that and train honest. I truly feel sorry for anyone who trains with you because the false sense of security you give them is going to get them hurt.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL........humhum sorry xD

YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! :D I was so angry today after thinking about how unfair it is that men have greater muscle mass...and that my male cousin who is one year younger than me and very skinny can keep an iron grip on my hand ( lol we were attempting to be ninjas)... I COULD NOT PULL MY HAND OUT!!!! I was so angry about this but now after seeing this I feel better :D

Devinbatteryd 8 months ago
Rather than show one technique she should really put it into context though. Doing the release will achieve little in and of itself against a committed attacker. It should be followed up swiftly with a counter attack.
yothereDK 8 months ago
Now this one I like better than most of her other videos. I've trained this release a bit and used it with succes even on guys much bigger and stronger than me. It's failed me a few times though... I think because I didn't do it fast enough. So to make it reliable you probably have to practice it quite a bit so that you'll get the speed right.
yothereDK 8 months ago

Bullshit, Id love to see a 50 kg girl making this release on non-cooperative 80 kg guy.Kick him to groin instead or shins with your shoes, smash his insteps with your heels, shred his face, shout on him and do not stop attacking until he releases you and dont worry that he wont.
zipule 9 months ago
Yes this does work. Using your two arms is more powerful than his single thumb, but my criticism again on her videos is wtf do you do now? Your arms are free and everything you do is now predictable. You have your assailant's attention after that charade, and a simple kick to the groin isn't exactly easy to pull off.

srry but this is really bad advice, u cannot take one movement out of context and think it will help ppl at all.

SplinterProd 1 year ago
I'm missing technique explanation. You don't get out of a firm wrist grab that easily, just by 'scooping ice cream'.
In fact, my style of kung fu teaches with the explanation that you must hold your wrist (more or less) on the same place while rotating your arm from the elbow. To the side, without an angle. But i understand that this would be too complicated for untrained women's self defence.
paddotk 1 year ago
@360shon In this case, it's not an attack. It's someone who is grabby and annoying, like a drunk guy getting greedy on a woman. In these cases of man as agressor against a woman, this happens more than a guy actually trying to punch the woman.
paddotk 1 year ago
Miss, you should actually try these moves in a real situation, or just let your partner go amok on you while you try any of your moves to actually see if it works. You probably don't see this in the way a skilled martial artist does (and no offense), but you're doing more damage if you make people think these moves work than you're helping. If a move looks good in your head, then it means it probably isn't.
TKcmcbTD 1 year ago
Myth, Guys are not the only wolves out there. There are female wolves who are attractive, fit, aggressive, clever, cunning and manipulative too. Rather than using the word guys in all your video, attacker or aggressor would be better. You have to be careful with both genders when out and about these days. Knuckleheads come in all shapes, sizes and neighborhoods.

mattrR678 1 year ago
@360shon so then you would simply block with your free arm. breaking the grip only requires one arm. so he grabs you, you release it, and by the time his strike comes, it is weak because he is off balance, and you easily block it. you guys keep assuming that martial arts moves like these are done step by step over a period of several seconds. no. they grab, you release, less than one second. we both know this woman would land you on your back if you attacked her.

thats why MANY people who train in a martial art survive alot of confrontations on the street but even the greatest fighters avoid street fights if they can but if they are attacked they know what to do!
oh and the best "anti-rape" classes are Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Sambo, and wrestling classes. all of those involve close combat with grabbing and e.t.c world class fighters train in these along with other striking arts!
attention people! go to a fight place and learn personally!

Come ON!!! Open your eyes.
FanatikosKafetzis 1 year ago
Not sure what martial art this is but I just learned defense from a wrist grab today in goju and it's way nastier than this. First, we kick or knee to the groin then stomp. We then bring the opposing hand down and smash the hand of the attacker while pulling the grabbed hand back to chamber and finally palm strike to the face. Seems more aggressive but effective.
majin2912 1 year ago
@majin2912 well, that would work also, but the technique in the vid is basically what I was taught in Tae Kwon Do in high school. Not exactly, but pretty much the same. With practice, it looks like you're just flicking your wrist, but the specific way you're moving your arm is critical. You don't just move your arm to the right in a straight line, that wouldn't do it. You have to get the rotation.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
you can search my favorites on my youtube channel and I have alot of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu videos its great! expecially for women who are big targets in the street!

You know what woks better? Drive your ring and middle finger of the other hand straight into his eyeballs. That'll make the fucker let go.
Rushfan32935 1 year ago
@Rushfan32935 that's the MMA jock response, emotion. Well, guess what, the attacker's other hand is free, and one of your arms is not. Good luck striking his eyes, ears or anything like that. It makes more sense to get your arm free so you can run away or at least respond to anything else he is going to do. And these moves DO work. I've done them with guys bigger than me, and I have seen females do it. It is physics, I guess MMA jocks don't understand that.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
@neutrino78x I'm not an MMA jock. I don't even know MMA. I'm just smart enough to know that if the guy can't see you, it's a whole lot easier to get away. lol

Shadowman write: "A lot of people treat a wrist grab like its the attack, but a wrist grab is not the attack its just a grab, What comes next is the attack and you better know what your doing or your going to get someone really hurt, Before you try to deal with the wrist grab you better put shock into your attacker."
Shadowman is "dead on" correct with this comment. Shock, attack, attack and keep attacking or else end up seriously hurt.
mjdcgb 1 year ago
@mjdcgb "Shock, attack, attack and keep attacking or else end up seriously hurt." <--- this is not Karate/martial arts philosophy, this is MMA thinking. The victim is not in a position to "shock, attack" in this scenario. shadowcar88 1 year ago
"Very rare fight kung fu vs taekwondo" also " Taekwondo(Korea) vs Kung fu(Shaolin,China) " MMA is a sport, not a martial art, FTW! lol @ mma jocks
neutrino78x 1 year ago
@neutrino78x u do realize TKD and Kung fu are pretty random and Kung fu has a low effective record, people who do MMA have backgrounds in other martial arts lol
shadowcar88 1 year ago
@shadowcar88 yeah well they may have "backgrounds" in martial arts, but they don't actually study those other arts. they just learn the moves. check out that video I mentioned, if MMA is real martial arts why doesn't it look like that video? because MMA is slow jocks. wrestling is for slow people (I mean slow in movement and reaction time, not slow as in stupid).

@neutrino78x i was bullied to, but this move isnt going to work when the guy is pulling you. Its to complicated. All u need to do is pull your writs out where the fingers interlock. Use two hands if u have to. See, unlike all these other "jacks" i have solutions :D.
ikcjjtt 1 year ago
@ikcjjtt hmm I'm not exactly sure what you mean, it sounds like you're talking about pulling backward with your forearm? If you're strong enough to slide your arm out like that, then obviously you can defeat the grip. This move is about defeating the grip when the other person is too strong to allow you to do that. And it isn't that complicated, I was taught something similar in TKD. Like she said, you just move your arm like you're blocking, it works great.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
@shadowcar88 MMA, a martial art?NO.. Its only a sports with lots of rules so that the player comes home ALIVE.. Matrial arts, on the other hand, have tendencies to kill if they are threatened..there is no tap outs in real life..

A swing against the temple is a knockout blow.
mjdcgb 1 year ago

@mjdcgb lol @ swing against the temple is a knockout blow...lmao. FIrst of all, the guy's other hand is free, and your other arm is not. So, if your arm gets anywhere near him, he will just block it. Plus this is supposedly with a woman/small guy vs big muscular guy, so the assumption is that a move that requires strength, such as a knockout blow to the face, would not work.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
@neutrino78x
Also Neutrino, there is nothing wrong with fighting as a sport! its great and amazing test of the will and spirit! good Karate always has sparring in it! knockout blows to the face "requires" agression, technique, and a good amount of skill. infact many and more people who take Brazillian Jiu Jitsu e.t.c have survived many street confrontations. learning how to fight is the best way to learn self defence. not just practice one single little slap that wouldnt even work lol
shadowcar88 1 year ago
The trick here, as the martial artist states in the video, that the human hand/arm can only rotate so far in certain directions. You're taking advantage of that with this move. You're really rotating against the thumb, and the thumb cannot defeat your whole arm. I'm sorry but not even Shamrock is going to be able to maintain grip with this. That's why he would lose against a real, skilled, quick martial artist, as opposed to an MMA/wrestling jock.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
@neutrino78x You are wrong. She can hit the opponent's ear. Go ahead and let your sister, mother, girlfriend, wife, female relatives try the defense as demonstrated in the video in in a realistic and dynamic scenario then let us all of us know how it turned out.
OK?
mjdcgb 1 year ago
@mjdcgb you must be one of those MMA jocks. Look, you don't have to be buff to do martial arts. It was invented by intellectuals, Shaolin monks. MONKS! Does that sound like buff people to you? If you want to move a big object and you're not strong enough, you use a lever, right? That's what this is doing. She can't get free by jerking her arm, because that is working against the whole hand/arm. The trick is to defeat the grip with leverage. That's what you see in this video. Leverage.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
the part at 2:45, we also did that at the studio where I went...instructor called that "four wheel drive", where you use both arms. It is even more powerful. But really, one would normally work. using two is more psychological than anything else.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
I think I wouldn't hate this video as much if she shows a follow up because once the hand is free the guy isn't going to stop, so now what are you going to do???? And like I said before a grab isn't an attack its just a grab you should move your body to the outside of the attacker to get away from his other weapons.
shadowman45810 1 year ago
@shadowman45810 well yes of course, you always run away once you're free. he can grab you all day and you can keep getting out of it, this is why MMA sucks so much, because a real martial artist would not let someone take them down.
neutrino78x 1 year ago
Ok since I've obviosly offended a lot of you that think this will work, I challenge you to come to Ohio Northern University and prove it. Let me know when you will be there I'll be the attacker and prove it can work. Put your money where your mouth is or shut up ;) As far as mechanically sound goes I know lots of women around 100lbs that could not pull this off on a larger guy, You do this to a guy high on drugs and intent on harming you and show me how long you'll last. Not long boys and girls
shadowman45810 1 year ago
A lot of meatheads here commenting how this "doesn't work". It does work. It is skeletally/mechanically sound for getting yourself free of a grab by a larger person - as advertised.
Women are most often subjected to these grabs rather than being attacked by MMA fighters with chokeholds.
It's called "social context", but yeah, I'd expect that concept to be lost on meatheads who only see everything through tunnel vision of the ring.

I like it how everyone on Youtube thinks they're an expert on what works in the real world as though they've been in hundreds of street fights and have actually used the technique in trial and error in real life...
Too many self-proclaimed experts.

@kickerwithkick2 Well she knows what she's doing so she must have used it.
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb I meant the other people making comments saying stuff like it wouldn't work and stuff like that.
kickerwithkick2 1 year ago
@kickerwithkick2 ok but im true right don't you beleive what i said im a guy but these guys are dumb on here.
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb I think it's a macho thing where a lot of guys are too insecure to admit that a woman has the possibility of being strong enough to defend themselves from a man.
kickerwithkick2 1 year ago
@kickerwithkick2 yea because even shadowman who supposedly been in karate for 30 years doesn't understand the concept of what works for you won't work for everybody.
rippabomb 1 year ago
.....more crap. Hell even the guy rolled his eyes like "this is crap". Oh yeah and your "assisted hand release" will not work either. If your attacker grabs you from straight ahead all you have to do is go up and over his own wrist and grab to hold him down in a lock in order to take control.......jackass.
ALPHA00301 1 year ago
@ALPHA00301 ima say it like this look at the girls feet her feet look funny she knows how to kick so um you don't know much about women do you they will work until they will be able to get out of things it's a great trait but sometimes they will do alot more than they should and leave the attacker dead hahah naw women are vary smart remember that and if you have a better way to do it then make videos for women

okay but what if the guy isnt weak?

Like the way she says "My assistant Sean" at 0.35
Ya think she's banging him?

If a man is attacking a woman and wants to beat her, this might postpone the pending beat down for perhaps a moment, but this stuff won't work against someone determined to do something to her.
cab24 2 years ago
@cab24 ya the only way 2 really win is 2 kick him in the balls
deathworm123 1 year ago
@deathworm123 yeah if your actually able to kick even that may not work cause im a guy and i have been hit there and it doesnt really hurt much

By the way, I really liked this video. It was practical, easy to understand and easy to learn. Delivered by an appealing expert. Keeping putting them up Audrey!
rachelavin 2 years ago
easy to understand ... yes; practical ...
TheGreatEscapes 1 year ago 2
@TheGreatEscapes no that wouldnt work if he really wants to rape you
terrapatra 1 year ago
So quick to call a manuever crap? I'd like to see you hold on as she's snapping your wrist off. And, if it won't break, the strike on your elbow can be pretty devestating if you refuse to let go. You seem just like the sort. There are multitudes of responses for the multitudes of conditions. I'm looking forward to seeing your suggestion for getting out of a wrist grab. Then, I'm going to tell you how that won't work.
rachelavin 2 years ago
no, its not going to work against someone with much greater strength.
jackylin24 2 years ago
while the whole time both his eyes and groin where waiting in the spot light to be struck! :)

Good luck pulling off this self-defense stuff in a real live fight. Ain't gonna work.
stoplookinatmyscreen 2 years ago 8
@stoplookinatmyscreen well its not a fight if its with a girl man you guys need to give these woman some credit dude whats wrong with her spreading her knowledge This woman's trying to help and you guys just talk people down please could you let her be and do what she believes is right.
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb just because she beleves its right does not make it so, Hundreds of years ago the world was flat and you couldn't argue against it or you were a nutjob, but we know now that , the earth is not flat and its good to question everything, I've been studying martial arts and self defense for almost 30 years so I kind of know what will work and what wont.
shadowman45810 1 year ago
@shadowman45810 not really the things that they say wont work it will sometimes you just can't think it won't
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb isn't it better to practice things proven to work? not just things that work sometimes as you put it? Check out Russell Stutely's OCFM system, that will work guranteed.
shadowman45810 1 year ago
@shadowman45810 a yo if you been practicing for 30 years you should know what works for you might not work for other people even if its proven it might not work for all women
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb I'm done with you, you obviously have no idea what your talking about. All of us on here are apparently wrong and you are right, but seriously lose your ego. Like I keep saying if this works under pressure then good, But as shown by itself it will not work. Look at my self defense videos and you will see a big diff in the training because we eventually take away the compliance and the women find out pretty quick what works and what does not!!!
shadowman45810 1 year ago
@shadowman45810 so do we I don't have to look at your video's what we do over here is the really deal too so i know what I'm saying.
rippabomb 1 year ago
@rippabomb The only reason you won't look at my vids is because of your ego, let go of that and train honest. I truly feel sorry for anyone who trains with you because the false sense of security you give them is going to get them hurt.
