  • sublime! remarquable interpretation

  • sublime!

  • donraul....i agree.............wholly

  • brilliant piece

  • She is just amazing!

  • Yes, the best ever. Even the great Callas comes second to Caballe on this one. She sings it even better on the album with the great Ingvar Vixell as Scarpia. That diminuendo at the end is so difficult and she just hits it out of the park!! God bless Monserrat.

  • Caballe has higher and more prolonged notes than either callas or Sutherland. She puts in as much if not more emotions than the other two. She has to be the best ever followed by either callas or Sutherland.

  • I can tell in this production Mr. Scarpia was into plus size girls. :-)

  • The great Caballe. How can such an otherwise voice sweeter than honey manage, so effortlessly, to change direction to convey such pathos! Bravo and bravo again!

  • There is only one word for Montserrat Cabelle, and that is "Magnificient"

  • Absolutely amazing - have always loved her - such passion and she just "floats"!!

  • Wow! Nice..

  • bravoooooooooooooooooooo

  • I like her style, she makes it new and full of deepest emotion...

  • what an artist it doed not get any better than this..Bravo!

  • I'm on my knees, listening to this divina.

  • SEBBENE LA SUA VOCE ERA FATTA PER UN REPERTORIO TUTT'ALTRO CHE VERISTA,BENSI' BELCANTISTICO, RIUSCIVA CON QUEI SUOI STUPENDI PIANISSIMI A INTERPRETARE IN MANIERA FANTASTICA ANCHE TOSCA..

  • That diminuendo made me die. Parfait...

  • SOMEBODY SPANK ME AND SEND ME TO BED ALREADY!!! I continue to DROOL with desperate delight at the art of this fine, wholesome, ABUNDANT lady!!!! For out of her bosoms drip the sweet honey of the finest samarkand! Sounds that shame the rich red colour of pomegranate! VIVA, LA SUPERBA!!!! *GASP!*

  • Simply irresistibly.

  • Jesus was the conductor and the voice of God was Tosca.

    BTW- Jesus Etcheverry

  • so gut, much emotion.

  • I love her, but it annoys me that she will often dismiss some of the words at either high notes or end of the aria...is this to make it easier on her? I would think that of anyone, she`d be the one who would not have a need to do something like that, with that impressive breath capability and control.

  • @GEF69 Ah who cares? When you are at her level, you can take such liberties. Her technique is flawless!!!

  • @godivapaw

the technique is not flawless and the glissandi in the opening lines (and most of the lines...) a bit over the top... but the sound is undeniably gorgeous and -what the heck- that is what we love her for...

I heard her live many times and have happily joined in the usual hysteria of applause beyond criticism.

However, keeping a clean head nonetheless never harmed anybody...

  • @GEF69 She explains it in her movie "Caballé, beyond the music" with the example of Violeta in Traviata. It's as simple as she likes it in that way.

  • @jacobtfn Thanks! I'll check it out.

  • One of the most beautiful voices we heard, not always faithful to the composer of the work, but what a voice and beauty! And personality! The only other soprano giving (and better than here) the diminuendo from the B Flat, in just one breath, is Adelaida Negri, I just heard it here in youtube.

  • COOOOO OOOO??? Y EL FINAL????+

WAK, LA AMO, PEOR REALMENTE SUCIA SU VERSIÓN, ESAS LIGADURAS QUE NO EXISTEN EN LA OBRA,, Y LAS REPITE A CADA RATO, COMO SU ESTILO,,,NO ME GUSTA,,,,,

    COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO¡¡¡¡ JAJAJAJA

  • love :) i dislike the 17 dislike's but it is understandable, opera is not for some people. Thank you Montserrat Cabellefor having the most beautiful voice

  • callas is nasal

  • @JURONO71 no, callas is deep, and she has to push so much for getting those tones.

  • COOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOO?

  • Marvelous!

  • ah-ha! so Renee Fleming was not the first to sing pianissimo on those descending notes near the end...well Montserrat sounds fabulous here :)

  • Wonderful, this video shows all her greatness

  • superbamente suntuosa!

  • I actually feel dumber after reading this post.

  • perfect...as usual

  • 2:52 o my god..... could make rocky cry

  • Wow! Slow and contemplative opening. She is very good!

  • my favourite version of Vissi d'arte!

  • Galina Wishnevskaya the best Tosca ? ? ? ? ? Galina W. was a good Russian soprano with an awful diction and a horrible Italian pronunciation. She had no idea what singing in Italian means. The best Tosca was Maria Callas, followed by R. Tebaldi, M. Olivero and M. Caniglia.

  • I agree, perfect!

  • she's perfect!

  • almost as complete as callas

    far exceeds renata

  • Una voce bellissima! Brava, bravissima!

  • Callas is really good, but I dislike his timbre. Caballé, is just perfect.

  • *her XD

  • @plasticPlaystation tht's exactly what I think too :)

  • ROFLOL...Gheorghiu...ROFLOL...

Callas great! Caballe great! Price great!

Complimenti.

  • she's unbelievable

  • That ending is beautiful!!

  • Caballe and Callas = the greatest!!

  • She is amazing singer!!!!!

  • Caballe.... she is just amazing.

  • The most beautiful Tosca ever.Everytime I hear Caballe sing this aria I have to fight not to cry.

  • THAT WAS REAL.

  • One of my three favorite "Vissi d'arte"s. Alongside Maria Callas and leontyne Price!

  • SUPERBE CABALLE malgré le co-o-o-

  • there will be beautiful statement, one will do in vain, nothing done there, it was and will remain for a long time the most beautiful voice of all times.

  • One must have heard and seen several Floria Toscas to see how extraordinary this performance is. As beautiful in terms of tone as any lyric soprano, (Freni etc), as powerful as any dramatic soprano (Nilsson etc) and as passionately acted as Callas. Yet all in One Woman. Forgive her the last word, this was divine!

  • she just cooooed right off....oh well still love ya montsi!

  • what happened to cosi

  • Good point! I wonder why she didn't finish the word?

  • She skipped cosi in Chi Il Bel Sogno as well. Maybe it's just not her favorite word? Lol. She's wonderful here though.

Bravisima

  • I like her Tosca and was surprise how good she was in it. But somewhat this Tosca`s only solo aria dissapoints me quite a lot and I consider it the weakest part of her Tosca. Strange.

  • you're true when you talk about this song being a disappointment. Her pitch was all over the place...don't understand it...but her acting seems really passionate.

  • Spectacular. But I dislike it when they sing sitting (or kneeling) down.......I love the pianissimos, truly breathtaking.........the ending phrase, perche me ne rimunerei cosi" she didn't pronounce the "cosi" properly, but

    who cares............grazie, Maria!

  • Fantastically sung. But she went from "Cosi" to "Co-o-o"

Dunno why, she couldn't forget to do it couldn't she? Someone like her :p

  • OK, I take it back (Why did I have to speak too soon before I had heard it all? lol). The end where she does "Si-O!" (with an audible clunky change of vowel)instead of "Signor!", and then "co-o" instead of "cosi" is really disappointing. Oh well. I still like her anyways.

  • She almost always sings beautifully, and mesmerizes me here. Such an amazing singer.

  • Que magnifica interpretación...

  • Stunning. Simply gorgeous. Studio recordings do not do her justice. I am glad to have come across this.

  • oppure quel TREMOLO!

  • la Kabaivanska era troppo stridente

  • Fantastico. Bravisimo Monserrat. The best!

  • Absolutely wonderfull

  • what a beautiful voice!!! I wouldn't want Tosca to commit suicide in the end if M.Caballe acts in this role.I can't bear to see this wonderful person cry...
