  • 1:46 "I like it a lot I like the hop on and hop off - and the seats are really squishy"

  • Am I the only one that sees the law suits that will come from this hop-on/off platform?

  • They're getting greener, is this guy colour blind

  • Ken Livingstone is a joke .. Hes stupid bendy buses purchased from hong kong did not work on London narrow streets not to mention the fare dodgers at least the new routemaster is built in Northern Ireland so is british built well done Mr Boris Johnson

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know whether to laugh or cry with the introduction of these really. If Boris wanted to keep the routemaster image going then surely a cheaper solution would have been renovating the then existing fleet of RM's and dedicate them to tourist routes. similar in fact to what Lisbon does with their 1930's trams...

  • This thing is absolutely 'ORRIBLE! An insult to the Park Royal Routemaster!

  • At least it's a double decker and not one of those stupid bendy buses.

  • what the fucking point of this, people are goner end up grafting on the bus and scratch it up and put gum under the seat ect ect its just goner get damaged just stupid might as well just improve the tube service

  • "clampton pond" lool is the pond full of gonorrhea fluids?

  • Hmm amazing.... another way of depressed business people to commit suicide now .... :(!

  • how do wheelchairs get on .

  • @blobby273 Second door just like the current system

  • @UndertakeAAPHD oh thats good then they must have thought the disableds were not worth a mension,

  • Last Tuesday, I waited ages for a bus and then three came along at the same time. Typical - you wait ages for a bus and then three come along at the same time.

  • I dislike Boris, but Livingstone is being an ass here. Sure, the first few buses cost a lot; developing an advanced green bus costs money! But costs will go way down once they start building more of them, and at 11.6 MPG (as compared to 4.5 MPG for the bendy buses that replaced the old Routemasters) they are a great investment. I estimate it will cost $19,550 a year to drive the new bus 40,000 miles, compared to $50,400 for the current buses, with significantly less pollution!

  • right what was the need to get rid of the old routemasters y not just overhaul the electrics and mechanics and layout would have been cheaper boris your a total dick

  • Today is February 27 2012 and I still don't see one on the 38 bus

  • How can having a conductor be an extra cost. We had conductors for years so all we have had is a temporary cost saving and now going back to normal. Also we had blacks coming in in the 1960s to be bus conductors as cheap labour. I am sure they will take advantage of all the cheap imported labour from eastern europe to do this job. Just as blacks got taken advantage of to undermine British jobs in the 60s.

  • its a just a bus as long as u can get where u want to go it dosent matter what it looks like

  • Ken Livingstone ruined London please dont re-elect him this year

With Boris not only have we got the bus, but also other things like the St Georges day parties in Trafalgar Square and stuff like that.

Boris has been more "ambitious" as mayor and thats what London needs, not Ken who would not do anything in case it cost to much or go down the cheapskate route with everything

  • @DANWOODHOUSE Yes Yes thank god someone with common sense Red Ken is a communist who was the one who got rid of the Routemasters in the first place and that old twat talks about how its a waste of money id like to ask him how much money he wasted on pointless parades every week in central London Boris may have said some stupid things over the years but at least he has a sense of humour and tires to do his best for London Ken is only doing it for his own ends the lying bastard.

  • ok, i rarely use public transport especially in london, but when i have iv'e had to show the bus driver a travel card or paid them, how would you do that with a hop on and hop off system, or would you not pay at all?

  • Waste of money and it looks crap.

  • Personally, I like this bus. It combines the modern london bus designs with vintage design, and it's especially convenient because you don't necesarily have to wait at a bus stop in order to get on or off a bus, which makes travel in london a lot more efficient.

  • The only reason Ken Livingston is against this bus is that it is a project of his opponent.

  • government creating jobs give me a break...

  • I spent 3 years driving Routemasters in London and they were such fun to drive. The idiots that did fall off the platform deserved what they got but in these days of sue-everyone-for-everything that could be a disadvantage. It`s nice to see that the name is still alive though, hey ho......

  • i like this design better, everytime i get on a bus, theres always a cue to get on and off, or up and down the stairs, it looks like its going to save alot of time, for workers or travelers :)

  • HEALTH AND SAFETY !!! :)

  • I like it, it's different. And someone shut Livingstone up his entire mayoral career he spent more time in other countries than he did in london.

  • Really think mr yobbo is going to pay whilst having his postcode war? Haaa

  • Now people can hop on the bus even when its not at its designated stop, Just like ole times!!!

    Recipe for something bad!

  • @saifwahid Not really, seeing that the door can be shut by the driver :)

  • @irhyslee Maybe I spoke too much

  • so people just jump on without paying? great.

  • @nickkomanz Nope, there are Oyster Card readers at every door, even the back, and during busy times apparently a community support police office may be at the rear of the bus :)

  • Bring back the bus conductor to make it faster and safer. The bus would spend less time at stops hold up traffic less, we would need less buses as they take less time to do the route, less chance of the driver being distracted so less accidence, someone to help with passenger safety and make sure every one pays.

  • great thing about these buses is, you can run down the road after it & jump on at any time, you dont have to wait at bus stops, i remember the london buses like that back in the 90s.

  • wheres the driver?

  • "And the seats are really squishy" nothing against the buses, I haven't personally been on one, but you're obviously gonna get positive comments from children.

  • @kid4eva94 Haven't personally been on one?!

    You've never lived, Boy.

  • @CleansingInferno Haha =D nah i rarely go to London, why are they that fun? XD

  • Two faced Ken Livingstone, also Peter Hendy a right wimp

original Rm never will be bettered as it still is a legend!

  • There was nothing wrong with the old routemasters? In my view life is getting to modern too quick its frightening but thats progress i guess.

  • i see 38s every day and have done so for a year now. not once have i seen one like this! where r they hiding?

  • i just sawed a 38 bus at hackney and it was not like that!

  • Fuck me it doesnt have tinted windows like the design

  • @michaelb3197 Do you have to be so coarse swearing

  • @regentv980 Apologies if it was offensive but yes I fell I do. Did you have to reply to that comment?

  • Comment removed

  • 7/7 Ripple effect... that's all, watch that video if you still believe the official story.

  • Yer that looks cool

  • Should call it the Brute master it's so ugly !

  • @TheHollyRog It's a bus what do you expect :D lol

  • This is just a modern bus with no door on the back and costing a fortune. But it is london (aka centre of the known universe) so the rest of the UK will be subsidising this folly

  • Boris, the jokes over, you are an embarissment to the real Londoner. You have made London a more dangerous and expensive place.

  • @mistaben2k wasnt he voted in...?

  • How would a wheelchair get on that?

  • is there a 3rd choice in the mayor election, because, I don't want to vote boris again and ken is a c**t, he made school children get on the bus for free, THAT'S BEEN FRICKING NIGHTMARE!, screaming kids, playing their ipods on the phone, fighting, making overcrowding worse for buses, you practually can't even get on a bus anymore and boris, he jacked up the price so high it's cheaper travel by car and the boris bikes are being used by idiots who can't cycle in london!

  • that's about £1,250,000 (one million, two hundred thousand) for each bus, well, at lease we know why our fairs are going up.

  • I like it, can't wait to ride it

  • I AM A BUS ENTHUSIAST AND I KNOW THAT BUS IS NOT A ROUTEMASTER

NOTHING ON THAT BUS IS FROM A OLD ROUTEMASTER SO IT IS A NEW BUS FOR LONDON

  • £10Mil for 8 buses including research and development isn't actually that expensive. Regular modern buses cost a good £50k minimum, so yes you could get 12 more, but at least these are being build in Britain. I'm not just defending Johnson I think he's a bit of a knob but if it is providing more jobs that can only be a good thing. End of the day the only way for the country to get out of financial dire straight is to reduce unemployment, spending money brings benefits in the long term!

  • THIS IS NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT A

    routemaster

  • @DANIEL5986 NO IT IS A NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW ROUTEMASTER

  • As a londoner I think the open platform is stupid, they do not realise how easy it is to fall of a bus if there isn't something stopping you from falling. however I like the design, if there was a door covering the open platform it would be perfect!!

  • @adotful Open rear-platform buses ran in London for over 100 years. Why should people fall off now, when there were hardly any reports of this happening years ago?

  • @sp1midholm Because reporting events was not the norm

  • @sp1midholm

Probably the nowadays "average highly fucked up citizens of London" should fall off more than in the past because of their "I'm in a hurry for business/I care only about myself/I'm very drunk or high" attitude. Which is a lot different attitude than the english gentleman of the past, who jumps carefully to the back of a bus, holding his newspaper and umbrella.

  • @sp1midholm Because now days we have chavs

  • @sp1midholm Quite right,my sentiments too!

  • @sp1midholm I remember seeing in my youth a smartly dressed chap nonchalantly step off the bus between stops. He misjudged the speed and his face hit the pavement quite hard.

I don't see the advantage of the platform. It costs almost twice as much to run the bus, there are three doors already so people can get on and off very quickly.

  • @sp1midholm because there wasnt the no win no fee possibilities back then

  • @adotful they do have a door covering it

  • @adotful

Hopefully in this Nanny State we poor, feeble, pitiful, pathetic Londoners will have an Elf 'n Safety Commissar to help us on the Bus as we are so useless and dependent on others that the Nation that gave the World some of the greatest Pioneers,Explorers and Thinkers can not possibly be trusted to perform the onerous task of getting on AND off ourselves.

    Poor Lambs.

  • @Isleofskye Okay!! I didn't ask for an essay. that's just my opinion of which might change when the buses are eventually in operation. thanks for the sarcasm btw ;)

  • @adotful

    Seen Mi Bredrin...:)

  • Oh get lost Livingstone, I like it and the state of some of the old busses... *shudder*.

  • Look guys, this isn't a London politic debate chat room. The Boris Bus is obviously liked and that's what it is. I don't give a fuck who Ken is

  • yawn, you are such a whinger. Get over it.

  • that's quite a lot of money!

  • Boris vanity bus. What a waste of money 10 million then the fool puts the price of transport up by 7% Vote for Ken

  • @colcfc123 you're delusional if you think Londoners are going to vote for Crony Ken again. You sound like Ken....bitter. This bus will be hit, unlike the hated bendies.

  • @evantis121 Most people liked the bendies the carried more people. The Boris vanity bus has been ridiculously expensive and has had to have been towed already. I am not bitter i have nothing to be bitter about. I am however angry Boris is a Buffoon and plays the part of a public school clown to mask his record as Mayor. He like the rest of the public school millionaires in the Tory cabinet looks after his chums before the real Londoners proven by his not being in London when roits

  • @colcfc123 Bendy buses were not popular, especially with the poor sods like me that had to use them. There were so few seats that most had to stand, in rush hour it was akin to cattle trucks and they had a tendency to burst into flames. It was also too big for its boots, kind of like what Ken became in the end, a bitter old crony only interested in slush funds for himself and his hangers on buddies. No more trips to Nigerian 5 star Hotel resorts courtesy of Ken. Boo Hoo.

  • @evantis121 I used Bendy buses! I must admit not the most comfortable but they got alot of people on and did the job. All public transport in London rush hour is akin to cattle trucks. Under Boris the fares are the most expensive in Europe, We have suffered inflation busting fare increases, the tubes are unusable on weekends due to engineering work. But that's OK as your chum Dave says "The jubilee will put as back on track" Talk about in denial

  • @colcfc123 Ken Livingstone was a lying bastard that was only interested in himself. He increased fares May I remind you.

Jan 04 - After Ken promised to freeze fares, he increased fairs 43%

Jan 05 - Ken increased fares again by 14.3% and a further peak time rise of 25%

Jan 07 - Ken increased fares yet again 25%

I stand by my assertion, Ken Livingston is a lying bastard only interested in himself and his followers looking for access slush fund accounts courtesy of Ken. The guys's a parasite.

  • @evantis121 What nonsense. Ken is a parasite? Not the Bankers or Millionaire revenue tax evaders who make up the Current Tory Con-Dem Government ? Na cause not. Cuts for the poor and needy, Tax relief for the rich and greedy The amount of tax that has been avoided by your friends of the Tory party due deals with the inland rev runs into billions. Enough to fund the war education, NHS and Transport many times over. FACT

  • @colcfc123 Finished ranting? we'll find out if the electorate are happy with a Mayor that actually delivers on his pledges rather than constantly lies and goes back on his words like your mate Ken Livingston. You seem to forget that Ken lost the last election, as did Labour. People work up to their incompetence and voted them out. Good luck if you think that shower of gormless pricks are going to get back into government any time soon.

  • @evantis121 Not a rant ! Sadly its the truth. If we are looking at the last election the only way the Tories could get in was to jump into bed with Lib/Dem. That has worked well for Labour as the Lib/Dem have sold out. lost any support they had to Labour. People have seen through the tissue of lies sprouted by the Tory party, we are sick of cuts in services for the poor, sick and elderly. While the rich avoid tax by hiding money in spouses names, make deals to avoid corporation tax

  • @evantis121 One more point what pledges has Boris delivered apart from wasting 10 MILLION on a vanity bus. Ken got the games the work was done. Where was Boris when the riots took place? Off on his jollies saying we could cope without him! What a great Mayor the worst riots in living memory and he is sunning his fat arse. I suppose he gave us some expensive bikes, with no helmets sponsored by his rich banking friends Gave us the most expensive public transport in Europe Buffoon

  • @colcfc123 You are an idiot. I can see you are blinded by your hatred for all things Tory but face the facts. Boris WON the mayoral election, Correct?? and one of his pre-election pledges was to introduce a modern, green hop on hop off bus, Correct?? As he won the election it can be presumed that the majority of Londoners would like him to follow through on his pledges, Correct?? Then why are idiots like you whinging about a politician that actually does what he says he does?

  • @evantis121 The pre-election pledge made by Boris to introduce modern green hop on off buses did not mention the fact it was going to cost us 10 million quid and he would yet again put up fares by an inflation busting 7% to help fund this expensive vanity project. What else has the buffoon done? apart from over spending on the Olympics, messing up and over pricing tickets, while of-course making sure his rich mates get free corporate tickets that we pay for.

  • @colcfc123 Well, you go on thinking what you like and while you are at it have a look at any Youtube video clip about the Boris bus and you will see a hell of a lot more likes than dislikes. Flashy? High Profile? maybe, a PR dream? definitely. You can go on and on about fares but the truth is that everybody knows Ken won't stand by his pledge. He's a proven liar.

  • @evantis121 Your points on Boris being a PR dream were true. yes the loveable posh bloke. I would not say flashy more (Tim nice but dim) bumbling his way through interviews not really answering questions asked no real policies in place. This worked well for a time. However this act will get old I feel people will notice he has not done much and judge him on his achievements these are far and few between. This is not my view as a socialist just my observation on the man himself.

  • @colcfc123 did you think developing a new bus from scratch was going to be free?

  • @conwaytwitty33 Under my Soviet regime it will be

  • @conwaytwitty33 Not for free but 10 million. Even you must think that is too much

  • @evantis121 I notice that you resort to name calling like calling me an idiot. these tactics try to mask the fact that you have no real points to argue The Tories have had it even in their flag ship Wandsworth their nasty policies of trying to evict the unemployed and families of rioters has proved they pick on the sick and people on benefits then give tax relief to their old school chums in big businesses. People are angry about the divide between rich/ poor and Tory cuts.

  • @colcfc123 Your buddy Ken Livingston was the exact opposite. Good 'ol Ken would happily promise great things just to get elected then once in power go back on his word. Ken Livingston is a stinking liar. He will never get into office again, that I'm sure of. You are a typical lefty, blame everybody else but yourself. Back to the bus, I think it will be a success, you think differently. Only time will tell which one of us is right.

  • @evantis121 How do you feel about kens promise that he would resign if he did not reduce fares. Surely this must prove that he can deliver what he says and reduce fares for us poor Londoners.

  • @colcfc123 rofl ken made kids go for free and when he was in a bus ride was 50-100p which is NOTHING. now i went on the bus its fucking £2.20!!! wtf is that about!!!!

  • @StikManJones That is what you get under Boris The most expensive public transport in Europe. Proof that Ken is the only choice

  • @colcfc123 the only reason its going up is because he just doesnt want those who cant afford it, i.e. "lower classes, blacks etc" how boris would say to go on it. but then.... what the fuck is the point of calling it PUBLIC transport if only a few CHOSEN public who can afford it can go on it? what happen with Ken was no-one said anything when he was doing a good job, 1 slip up then people hate him? Boris has been one fuck up to the next.

  • @StikManJones The main reason Boris got elected is the right wing media Murdoch backs Tories then you have the Evening Standard Tory rag. The most annoying thing for me that working class sun readers believe the crap they read and vote in a bunch of public school millionaires that cut services for poor and give tax relief to their rich mates. The only reason the Tory get in is the working class vote. maybe they think voting Tory makes them Middle Class really it makes them fools

  • @colcfc123 lol i understand exactly what youre saying. i thought the worship for The Sun would stop after news international and murdoc got caught out as being nothing more than petty criminals but the temptation for tits on page 3 on a monday morning is too strong...

  • @StikManJones

Don't worry the "lower classes, blacks etc" will continue to avoid paying as they did on the "Free" London "Bendy-Buses" sadly missed by all those who preferred NOT to pay....

  • @Isleofskye you snobby racist prick you that single visioned WHITe PEOPLE ARE as currupt as any other race and its ppl like you cause that currptionif you don't like going out and seeing other race & creeds STAY THE FUCK HOME

  • @1983kungfupanda

You can't even spell "cOrruption"..you had two attempts and still got it wromg both times.

Guys like you make me laugh as you are soooo naive, its laughable.

For yout information Sonny I left my beloved London like countless other Londoners in 1983 when you were born, ironically as we were sick of Black street crime even then !

Almost every mugging was committed by Blacks.

Its all about PROPORTION....other Rqces DO commit crime but not to the same degree.

  • Continued...

I moved to the Suburbs where there are few Blacks and in 29 years here there have been no problems at all..

Thats just half-a-mile from South London.

Try doing that in any area that has a 20% Black populace.

To PROOVE to you the extent of DISproportionate Black street crime do this for me......

Check the next 10 London Youth Murders in 2012 and I GUARANTEE that ( at least ! ) EIGHT or NINE WILL be committed by Black youths and they are only 10% of Londoners !

  • @Isleofskye lol

wrong, naiive, yout, races - successful call out on the spelling there

i do agree with your comment though, i lived in london for a while and the black areas are shiteholes that provide on street drug services as brazen as can be

  • @utrapzab

    Seen, mi bredrin ultragzab

  • @Isleofskye innit

  • fantastic 38s my bus! 10m though....!

  • @cambridgeecon according to another article, the cost for production versions will be circa 300k a pop. That's roughly the same as an off the peg hybrid double decker. Factor in the 15% fuel saving over current hybrid buses, over a typical 10 year lifespan its a bargain.

  • is it being tested now on the 38?

  • Welcome back , London is London again

  • London has always been famous for its routemaster double decker red buses and that old black taxis .. Its shame they made the bus retire from service .. Its definitely a welcome back . London is now London
