  • how much was it and where??

  • kewl

  • Not a huge fan of aftermarket sunroof, it'll never come out like the factory. Also, don't like the frame around the hole, I like the tapered look of of the factory ones.

  • how much was that

  • "hoes see and cant beleive its going back on its own" lol

    (nelly-pimp juice)

  • yeah how much did it cost?

  • how much did it cost you for the installation?

  • OK, I have a question. I love cars and know a lot about performance philosophies but I am not a mechanical person. I just bought a 2011 Speed3 and want a roof put it. My question is, if it effects the structural integrity of the car, can the uni body bend and get out of shape or is it strictly a performance thing?

  • Mazda didn't offer a sunroof because the torsional rigidity would be compromised, but I guess the average driver wouldn't notice a difference... did you notice any difference in the stiffness of the car?

  • @andavid or...an experienced driver wouldn't either. There are lots of people who claim there were structural issues as to why Mazda wouldn't offer a sunroof but frankly they're all just assumptions. I still own the car, it's been through many autocross races, and I can tell you as an experienced autocross driver the sunroof presents no "torsional rigidity" issues... Car handles just fine, and 4+ years later there are still no leaks or structural issues with the car.

  • sublime nice! :P

  • Nice 700 Series roof........But if I were to return a car to a dealership with a headliner that looked like that, they`d tear a strip of me........

  • @jbarlocher consistently got positive comments from my dealership about my car - even with my other mods (FMIC, Sway bars, Downpipe, CAI) they loved seeing it come in. They never questioned the sunroof ironically, i expected it to be the first thing they said "wtf" about.

  • how much did this cost?

  • good song!! aha

  • Also, for anyone who ssys "mazda didn't install one in the Speed 3 or structural reasons".......No, that's not at all why.....

They didnt install a sunroof because it is quite heavy (almost 50 lbs) and this is a performance car, after all....

  • To everyone who says that this weakens the cars roof.....BS......I install sunroofs for a living....Factory or aftermarket, a sunroof has no impact on structural rigidity. Sheet metal does a good job of keeping you dry, and that's about it. The "braces" that are removed to install a sunroof are there to keep the sheet metal from fluttering at speed, not to protect you in ANY way. They are way to thin to provide any kind of struture. Have a sunroof installed, professionally, and enjoy it!!!

  • @jbarlocher it has a slight impact, you are cutting a hole in the roof...

  • @greg12m3 ....If you cut the headers on the side of the car (the Can't rails their called) then yes, absolutely, you impact the structure of the car.....The sheet metal on top after the sunroof installation is stiffer that it was before, and there is a big "RSR" structure bonded into the car....Try it.....Run your wash mit over a speed 3 with no sunroof, and you feel the sheet metal flex under the force of your hand, with a sunroof.....You don't....

  • Awesome music! Clean install

  • hey man how much did it coat and how much was it i am looking to get the model you have

  • i want one installed...hit me up

  • check: mazdaspeed 3 after crash (roll over)

  • looks very nice and very clean install i will pray for you that you dont roll it or have an accident at over 15mph. as the a rollover will probly crush you and a minor accident will now tweak the body from the frame. will say it is very nice, i have an 08 an thought of this but after research dont think its the right way to go for me, i use it on the track once and a while and cant afford to loose the rigid stability the car comes with without the sunroof but im still jealous none the less

  • Damn son! That is clean! Very nice job, I wish they had included that stock on the MS3...

  • Thanks for sharing. Who is the manufacturer of the sunroof (not the installer)? How much did it cost you? Any problems with leaks? Thanks!

  • if you get any answers let me know cause i have all the exact same questions too

  • Hi I just but a 2008 mazdaspeed3 two days ago, but I don't know how to use the iPod conection it has the axs but it thoes not want to work? Or maybe I'm not doing it right could some one healp me??

  • I asked mazda why no speed 3 comes with a moon roof?! The dealer said that the car produces too much torque and has a high chance of making the center support weaker and possibly twisting the frame under all that torque. Good luck with the new hole.

  • god I hate people who say OEM out loud - leave that crap for the forums pal

  • nice. i love sublime

  • love it ! I have an ms3 too, what an AWESOME car. I'm installing a 52 inch panoramic sunroof... Hopefully they'll do just as good of a job as with your car :) I'm also installing two tone leather. Thanks for the post !

  • .. there was a kid in CT who had a red ms3 w/ a factory installed sunroof.....

i prob would have bought one.. if it came OEM -- that headliner doesnt look OEM... looks bad...

--- good thing my ms6 came w/ one oem.. heh

  • It wasn't factory installed in a MS3...period.

The headliner looks OEM, go look at a reg. mazda3 and it has the same looking lines, its how a sunroos is installed, you can't install one and have it NOT take up space in the car.

  • Nice sunroof, the line in the roof would bug me..I'm planning on having my Mazda dealer here install one in my MS3, they said about $900 with installation so maybe since its Mazda doing it they will be able to avoid the line in the roof.

  • not sure what line you're talking about but $900 is good, make sure it comes with a warranty!

  • Nice.

  • dude... i love that

  • where did u get yours done, i was thinking of putting one on mine

  • Automotive essentials in Rockville MD

  • I make those!

  • sun roof looks clean, if looks is what your looking for then sun roof is a plus...is there any high performance car with a sun roof?...well over all nice sun roof but damn the music sucks!!!

  • Are BMW's not high performance cars? In any case the MS3 isn't really what I consider a high performance car, it's fast for what it is, but I definitley don't consider it in factory form to be a monster.

And...it's not about looks its pure comfort, little t hings in life :)

  • in my opinion thats just something to go wrong in a speed 3...

  • there are reasons why mazda did not put a sunroof in this car, but... i got to say your install looks dam god bro. enjoy!

  • pretty cool! how much you pay for yours? sunroof?

  • You lost the escence of the MS3. If you wanted to go OEM it was better to replace the roof with one from an SP5 and thats would be OEM. Just my opinion. Good luck with your project.

  • Nice, but did'nt they say this will corrupt body integrity?

    Plan to but MS3!

  • There is a support beam that goes across the roofs sheet metal but is replaced by the sunroof frame which is prob ten times stronger thus actually adding structural integrity. If your really interested I'll send you pics of what I mean.

  • the cleanest aftermarket install ive seen...with switch and interior shade almost looks oem, cool functions too

  • Ouch! Cutting a hole in your car? I wouldn't. Just roll down all four windows instead.

  • sublime!!!!

  • who did you go through and how much did it cost for the kit and installation?

  • I dont like the rubber seal that is used around the perimeter to hide the cut metal.. What about drains? Can you say RUST?

I would also be worried about the structural problems as well. ANd I agree, want a sunroof and poo poo accessories? Go buy a regular 3. I have always had sunroofs in my cars and I use them maybe twice a year. Big whoopee

  • it doesnt matter how often YOU use it. wat matters is how often he uses it. i think it looks badass. structurally on the other hand i would be worried about it. but it wont rust dude thats why you use ::ding ding:: weatherstripping!!!

  • thats nice man, i like how it closes when u shut the car off.

  • un trabajo bien hecho

  • Welcome to the Webasto world

  • the sun roof is nice but i hate the line in the headliner...that would piss me off

  • Actually, the hole is already in the roof. Which is why it was a cheap install. Therefore, the no sunroof option is merely a tactic by Mazda to keep the price down. Others are using the same tactic (WRX) So, there will be no structural issues.

  • not true at all. there is no hole "roughed in" for aftermarket sunroof. and WRX has a support brace in there that is larger than no other roof ive ever seen!! those cars should NOT be getting after market installed, i would say that support is there for a reason.

  • Looks nice, but in theory, that car has WAY too much torque for a hatchback AND a sunroof. I'd be concerned about progressively warping the frame due to the load put on it by that awesome engine.

  • nice

  • I have a Webasto power sunroof on my 4x4 Ford Ranger and love it. These are great sunroofs; especially the auto close feature when you turn of the ignition.

  • what is the name of the manufacturer that make these sunroof?

  • Webasto

  • I just wish the mazdaspeed 3 came with AWD it's really nice to have... Maybe later on Mazda will decide to make it AWD like the MS6. If the Mazda had AWD than it would be the king watch out EVO AND STI Ouch LoL

  • Hey listen you can spend money upgradeding all of those speed parts on the 2008 WRX to win over a Mazdaspeed 3# that's cool but all you have to do to get 300 Horse Power From A Mazdaspeed 3 0-60 = 5.4 SECONDS

Is just add a CP-E bolt on and a cold air intake you be stomping the WRX all day long trust me watch you tube video called { mazdaspeed 3 cpe stand back installed } MS3 is the best enough said.

  • nice job! 1000$ is worth the money for a sunroof of this kind, what is the name of the manufacturer that make these sunroof?

  • Absolutely beautiful job they did. Wow! Well worth it. That looks stock, and very well made.

  • You know, I'm gonna go ahead and have to say that if the engineers believed there was a substantial enough risk of body cracking or warping due to lack of rigidity with a sunroof installed, I'm gonna stay away from installing an aftermarket sunroof on my car. If there wasn't some reason why you shouldn't do it, they would have offered it as an option. Too many hard corners and that roof could pop. It does look nice though. Just be careful.

  • Who says the engineers believed there was a substantial enough risk of body cracking or warping due to lack of rigidity with a sunroof?

Who says the reason they didn't offer it was because they wanted to keep costs down? Who says the reason they didn't offer it is because they wanted to keep it as a performance car and people assume (as is evident by most people saying they're glad it didn't come with a sunroof) that sports cars don't have a sunroof.

  • Sun roofs not only decrease the cars rigidity, they also weigh it down because of the sliding mechanism. Poor choose dude, if you wanted to "cruise with a sunroof", why didn't you get a regular 3 instead of the Speed. You buy a Speed3 for Speed, not sunroofs and pointless accessories.

  • Adding a sunroof is supposed to decrease the rigidity of the Ms3. I'm not doing that anytime soon.

    BTW, interesting mod.

  • real men ride motorcycles lol, nice shirt. The sunroof is awesome, been following your project on mazdaforums. well done

  • how much did u waste on it cause i want one too respond back plz

  • $1000 installed. Well worth the price, they did an amazing install, it LOOKS stock, at meets people don't even notice it til after I point it out, and then they can't believe it isn't stock.

  • nice mod.

  • I've seen a lot of videos of people reving there speed3's and dyno...yadayada...but this is just plain sickass. Seriously, that is so freakin cool. I test drove one and was very upset to find out it didn't have a sunroof. The fact that you own one and now have a sunroof is just wrong in all the right ways. It makes me want to destroy my volvo in a systematic fashion, by a mazdaspeed three and tear a whole in the roof...well done.

  • There is a reason Mazda isnt offering a sunroof option, but who cares lol. Im sure you dont notice a big difference in body flex. I miss having a sunroof in my car, looks nice!

  • I'm sure there is...just like people said there was a reason they didn't have a sunroof option in the mazdaspeed 6...until they changed their mind and started offering it.

  • They had that option from the beginning on the MS6. I bought mine the week it came out, and then returned it back to mazda a year and a half later. They're an absolute piece of shit , but thats besides the point.

  • True I don't know why anyone would pick this car out of the many modern performance cars out there. I would take a wrx, evo, se-r even an srt over this car. And i don't like the look of newer mazdas, but thats just me.

  • You're comparing Apples and Oranges. The MS3 costs under $25K, fully loaded, where as the sti/evo run for $30K+. Then you have the SE-R, WRX, and SRT. Well the funny thing about that is that in all the tests done by C&D, MT..ect, the MS3 has triumped over them all, every single time.

If you don't like the look of the new Mazdas, i understand - everyone is titled to their own opinion, but the MS3 is superior to all the rest in its class :).

  • well to each their own...I personally don't like the look of the wrx/evo/se-r, and sr-t? lols...It's still a neon.

    point being, opinions are like....

  • Very Nice!!!!

  • I heard from a dealer that a sunroof install was not recommended by Mazda due to the loss of rigidity in the car. True?

  • Dealers know less about this car than we do :) The regular mazda3 has the same bracing that the speed3 has, and plenty of people turbo/track their MZ3. No reason the MS3 can't handle it!

  • if this really is true, then you are right, you can cut out the support braces in that thing with tin snips! its more stable now then it was before.

  • Dealers don't know much of anything about the cars they sell, let alone performance cars :) I would take what they say with a grain of salt. There are plenty of AUTOX Mazda 3 hatches with a sunroof!

  • ...But there are very few MS3's around with sunroofs. I'll admit, yours looks great and I sure do miss having a sunroof, but I'll pass on it for now. I know the regular 3 has the same bracing as the MS3, but it has 100 less horsepower as well.Just a thought...

  • Will do.

  • Where and how much did you get this for? I am dying to get one installed in my MS3!!!

  • Automotive Essentials in Rockville MD. I have a post about it on mazda3forums check it out!

  • very nice. cool. Where did you get the blue/white lights for the interior lights? One downside to this mod is that now your inner roof looks bad in the back. Looks like a frankenstein MS3, all stitched up.

  • OEM sunroof does exactly the same thing - most people don't notice it :)

I got the interior LED map lights and dome lights from devin98 on mazda3forums he runs thexenon store thexenonstore dot com
