The crankshaft damper looks like a small unit, these motors have a big harmonic at 5500, that may be what is limiting the the top end. The six pack damper is much larger and would be better if running through this harmonic. 780nM is pretty good,
@ Valexperimenter...That sounds technical. Could you explain more, Are u sayin that they use the 6 pack balancer to give engine more torque and suit the 6 pack engines? Or am i one wrong track
Not quite, At certain revs crankshafts vibrate and this vibration can break cranks, cause spark scatter, premature valve float, broken oil pump gears and loose flywheels. The 6 pack damper has more mass and damping to reduce the magnitude of this vibration. Not a problem for drag racers but for an engine which might sit at 5500 for a few seconds it would be a good move, chrysler used them on engines expected to rev past 5000 there are a few aftermerket copies available.
If you can get more dyno time and the dyno guys have a tool to measure spark scatter then that would be the first thing that I would check for, engines running boost are more sensitive to ignition timing issues than naturally aspirated engines, I assume the mixtures were OK? Also is there a good quality double row timing chain installed?
In closing the 6 pack harmonic balancer (damper) is there to reduce crankshaft vibrations at high revs, these vibrations may be the cause of any problems.
hey wow thanks, its sounds very techical, my 265 is far from ready, however i am interested in the whole 6 pack balancer, i get told its only because of the use of twin plate clutch, i thought more to it, i have twin plate but no 6 pack balancer. In the past i had big issues with clutch plate coming loose. Now i know what may have been issue. geebus its all to much for me!!!
Hemi (from "hemisphere") is a design of internal-combustion engines in which the cylinder head's combustion chamber is of hemispherical form. The term, "Hemi engine" is a trademark of Chrysler Corporation,

I'm interested in knowing why the straight 6 is called a Hemi when the v8 is also called a Hemi what makes a Hemi.

Sorry....not a Hemi. The 428 SCJ was a wedge chamber...you are thinking of the Boss 429...
