This movie kicks Avatar stright in the blue balls! IMO (fan boys take a chill pill) District 9 is a great movie! Oh and as for the humans not being portrayed right, to quote Alan Moore "if there had been a superman ever, the world would unrecognizable today" the same can be said about aliens and of this kind of scenario.
I didn't think it was that good, I mean, humans are portrayed terribly, and are all humans the same? If so, then I should just create a new name for us other humans.
@MrBOPESquad2 its not a mish mash, its uses ideas to create something fresh and new, because lord knows that weve been givin crap in 2009. this is wat science fiction shuld be like, and if this was released back when science fiction was good, then it wuldve been shelved as a great peice of sci-fi. tsk tsk lack of imnagination
I agree, I really liked this movie. I didn't know what to expect and it blew me away. It had a great premise and great characters that you liked. I particularly liked Christopher and Oliver (the father and son alien) the best. I also fucking loved those weapons. I love sci-fi/action movies that blow shit up (and I'm a girl!). WOO!
FUUCCCKKK!!!! Am I the only one who thinks this movie is complete dog shit?????? Come on, it sucked!!! Comedy sucked, it had some weird ass transitions, and it is absolutely insane that 8 ft tall aliens with them laser weapons would allow us to enslave them. I mean, how stupid are they to come to our planet and bow to us????? So fucking dumb and stupid of an idea. Retarded ass movie
they stopped making the halo movie and then decided to pick this movie up. that's why the cars look like warthogs and the guns look like assault rifles. and the overall design of the weapons look like it came out of a videogame.
I agree with you I thought it was a great movie mostly because it was refreshing from all the other alien invading earth movies which are all the same
It's not well thought out. As brutal as the humans and military are in the movie, they aren't human enough to do something about the ship. They just leave it there. Why? So 20 years later, Christopher and Chris jr. can take a ride back to their home. Character motivation is important. Bad plot device.
I know you posted this 6 friggin months ago but it was so innacurate that I have to reply. The district 9 spaceship couldn't BE moved by humans. So it just sat there.
I think it was implied that the aliens were just drones, or workers. Any questions they were asked they probably weren't even told the answers to upon leaving. Plus, these little ETs didn't seem too smart. Like if the majority of them came from the Deep South of their planet.
And the ship was going back to the alien homeworld. Christopher said so.
Also, I'm betting that the aliens weren't expecting to find a planet with life.
A. it was an allegory for Apartheid government, and too much focus on where the come from would detract attention from that.
B. There was no master plan, and we arent sure why they are here, there was an accident of some kind, just like how real life refugees are usually in their predicaments for many complicated reasons and not just one simple one.
c. refer to B
D. Thats because thats the only stuff WE were interested in on that ship, there must of been other stuff
dude your just like me. im a huge movie buff and i will see a movie even if i think it will suck. i see them just joke around with my boys just how badd it was or how good it was. cant wait for final destination 4, that it really gonna suck
This is the only great film I saw this year although Crossing Over, Soloist, State of Play, Terminator: Salvation, International, Taken, Duplicity & Knowing were all good.
Yeah, I was glad we finally got a gun that shoots lightning bolts. All we need now is one that shoots shurikens in addition and we'll officially have the most awesome thing ever seen.
Great stuff. I just saw the movie today and I have to agree, it was pretty fucking sweet.
great review man.. your videos are really funny.. well anyways thanks for the review.. i really liked this movie.. its about time that somebody didn't make a movie that was bullshit.. nice work!
Nice to see a raw-dog review, for once. Good presentation and a few chuckles. Saw the movie yesterday. Thought it was great. And I gotta agree with you, there hasn't been too many great movies this summer.
lol..love the paris hilton clip..i wanted to see this movie..might end up seeing it this coming weekend..if not ill see it on dvd like quarentine and cloverfield
Great review man. Your comparisons are hilariously awesome. Hoping to see more in the future. You'll give me a reason to look forward to watching youtube.
what a mind fuck to see a positive review from you, you executed it perfectly though as always. I'm starting to think you can do no wrong :p
If i didn't live in a town where we only have 1 theater that plays 1 movie for 2 weeks i would have seen it already, next trip into the city i'll be sure to watch it after this recommendation
Rofl, he said "go to LA, but if you wanna pay $10 for it, go see District 9." I've totally decided to see this movie now, I might be going today or tomorrow.
Wow, amazing. Movies that were hyped up to be summer blockbusters have proven to be shit stains on the fabric of Hollywood creativity (and that in and of itself is a cliche) while movies that weren't expected to be good or all that interesting (don't know how many Star Trek fans weeped over the reboot) have proven to be really good. Maybe Hollywood needs to just stay in space.
haha. yeah, I wont rant against a movie that I thought was good. But i'll still do my best to make it entertaining. I'm glad you liked it. an "LMAO" is what I shoot for.
damn. i guess i'll have to see this one. i heard this was what was left of the halo project peter jackson was trying to get going. seems like he did pretty well for himself.
Yes Peter Jackson was set to produce Halo and Neill Blomkamp was set to direct. When it got put on ice, they decided to make a feature length film of Neill Blomkamps short film also titled District 9.

ok movie. Dont think it was well thought out because
A. they didnt explain where they came from
B. Didnt explain why they are here
C. Didnt explain why they were starving
D. Didnt explain why the ONLY thing on their ship was weapons(seems fishy)
E. Didnt explain where the ship went at the end.
there were some other things but I can over look them. All that aside it was a good movie. Not really Epic though just imo

B:They ran out of food on the ship & this was a populated planer with scentient biengs.
