I know that plates move and I'm sure that some land masses did separate just as others surely slammed together. Here's my theory: The earth was hit by another celestial body resulting in the moon and half of the land mass on earth. Centrifigal forces are pulling the continents apart. Once equillibrium is reached the plates will stop moving and the earths core will begin to cool and eventually "die". Its that simple. Why geologists haven't thoght of this blows my mind.
