  • I love it. Jeep/Chrysler should have pulled their heads out of their asses and put a 4.7 V8 in the unlimited. If a 3,400 lb Dakota can have it why can't the current 5,000 + lbs Wrangler four door get it? Good job on correcting Jeep's deficiency. I had a V8 CJ 7 and it needed the engine to turn 35's.

  • Sorry, here's the correct link: youtube.com/watch?v=fhrrpJIeeHg

  • what tranny do you have? im looking at doing this to my cherokee

  • @bnrdrifter it was a 4L60E in this w/ Novak adapter connecting it to a stock NP231

  • what muffler are that???

  • @usundacars I have dual exhaust w/ SLP Loudmouth II mufflers

  • I have a 1997 TJ. I was looking at putting a 5.3 LM7 due you think the AX-15 is a strong enough transmission for the job I want a manual I was going to beef it up what is your advice on this matter?

  • @loon1385 if you don't beat on it, the AX-15 could survive, but I would just go ahead and spend the money and get a better transmission now since if you blow the AX15 you will spend twice the amount on new adapters adapting a different transmission to the engine

  • did it fit right in? or a lot of work?

  • @25Celtics it barely fits, I had to notch the frame about an inch on the passenger side in order for the engine to fit with the ac compressor mounted at its stock location. Other than that, if you have the tools it is doable

  • gas guzzlin motherfucker, just the way I like it

  • @WarThug13 haha, but I got better gas mileage with the LS1 than I did with the 4.0L

  • im thinkin about doing this. but it'll be my daily driver, so what kinda MPG does it get?

  • @93YJLifted about 15-16 mpg city, 17-18 highway

  • I remember those days of taking it easy on my new conversion! Here's a link to a video when I wasn't so scared... youtube.com/watch?v=fhrrpJIeeHg

  • @bdoering2712 Just now tried to see the video, but nothing comes up

  • what about engine mounts? no problems with those? Nice swap by the way.

  • @animalwaldir89 Thanks, engine mounts were bought from an adapter company. I just cut off the old mounts, shaved it down to bare frame- dropped the engine in w/ the new mounts attached and welded them in

  • sounds pretty good but dont like the rims or the nerf bars

  • im thinking that maybe that electric gate needs an ls1 motor lol, nice job though awesome lookin jeep

  • @bajabilly2004 hahaha yes it does, believe me it is even slower now than it was when this video was taken

  • Thats too bad you had to put that discrase of a shitpile chevy motor in an American made Jeep

  • @YouraN1993R ????

  • How much was the cost of the installation, did you do it yourself or a local mechanic ? I'm thinking of buying a old cheap tj with lots of miles and attempt an engine swap.

  • @Socomnick I did it myself, installation was free because of that. Adapters and all, I'm not sure on the exact cost, but I would say under $5000 for everything (and that is everything motor, trans, adapters and all the little tiny things you wouldn't think about but you need). I'm not sure of the prices of the adapters now, maybe they went down in cost. Buying an old TJ w/ a lot of miles and doing this would be a very good idea

  • Im 16 and i currently drive an H2 hummer because its winter :/ but in the summer im putting an LT-1 into my 1987 Jeep Wrangler im pumped :)

  • LMAO! "That thing got a hemi?" Hell no it doesn't :)

  • i used to have that front bumper on my 99 wrangler, but i sold it for $120 after i got one that i could put a winch on

  • @CnRDirt well the bumper on my jeep in this video does hold a winch, I just don't have it installed at the time this video was taken

  • Dude, do you wanna be my friend and give me some advice on how to do something like this to my 2002 jeep wrangler sport =)...or tell me of anyone who does this around the souther california are =)...please =)

  • @thebrassbeast looks like you might be out of luck, being in California I hear their emissions is Nazi like. Send me a private message and I'll give you my email if you want info though

  • i have that same bumper on my jeep. automatic or stick?

  • @Themrandersonj it was originally stick w/ the 4.0L in it, w/ the LS1 in it, it became Automatic

  • damn dude i love how it sounds

  • what axles do you have

  • @4x4muddyjeep it had ford 8.8 in the back and stock dana 30 in the front

  • not to hate or anything thats a sick ride i can honestly say im jealous, but if you get that thing up to high speeds with that v8 and take a corner you'll flip that thing in a second

  • @xpenn420 I don't think high speeds are necessary for that, a relative was driving this and flipped it 2-3 times going under 50mph. Front right tire when off the road a little and got into some wet grass, swerved back onto the road- front right side slid causing the jeep to go sideways and flip multiple times

  • forgive me for not going through all the other comments to see if this was mentioned. what transmission do you have now?

  • @BlackCloudPSD 4L60E, sorry for the slow reply lol

  • why would you take the ls1 out of that camaro? when you could throw a cheap 350 or 360 in it. seems pointless and expensive

  • @willymywonka I basicly got the engine for free, if I wouldn't have I prob. wouldn't have done the swap to begin with. The camaro ran through some water and hydrolocked the engine. Insurance gave $6000 for the engine, so a LS2 crate engine was bought for it. The LS1 was in fine condition except for a broken piston rod

  • @TxJeepTJ713 So did you put the LS2 in the Camaro

  • @KingTMD yeah

  • @TxJeepTJ713 Was it auto? Why no videos of it

  • @KingTMD 6 speed T56 in the camaro

  • what do u have in the jeep

  • @SquatTilUDrop1 LS1, V8 that came out of 98-92 camaro and the C5 vette

  • how does it do with rock crawling?how is the engine at lower engine speeds?

  • @scfitch very good, when it is in 4LO it's pretty mean. My front diff is still open so rock crawling doesn't go good basicly because of that

  • damn, thats hot. makes my 6 look like a bitch.

  • Not feeling those rims, but the Jeep is freakin beautiful.

  • Hey do you goto Tech? I could have sworn I've seen your jeep up here. Mine is the LSX powered jeep on you tube. (Yellow). I would like to check how yours turned out if you don't mind.

  • @superjeep97 yes I go to Tech, I think I have seen your jeep, I was at a light and a yellow jeep passed that didn't sound like a 6cylinder or 4cylinder. Do you have it here at Tech?

  • I did last summer but I have been building on it in Dallas when I go home. I have nitrous and a turbo that i've been fine tuning on it. Whats your tech mail so I can get your number and check yours out. I hope to bring mine back up this sum again.

  • Hey do you goto Tech? I could have sworn I've seen your jeep up here. Mine is the LSX powered jeep on you tube. (Yellow). I would like to check how yours turned out if you don't mind.

  • hows the 4x4 doing since the swap did it hook up okay?

  • hows the 4x4 doing since the swap did it hook up okay?

  • @demomonk yeah, np231 is doing fine still

  • That's a bad ass jeep man I wanna put a hemi in mine or be different and do a diesel yah no what u think about a diesel in a rubicon

  • what year is this?

  • @jtevaristo47 1998

  • Is that what you took it out of was the Camaro? I've got a 02 Z28, but i'm wanting to sel it for a Wrangler to do a swap.

  • @KingTMD yea

  • i like when the cameraman jumped when you reved lol

  • im speechless. that is amazing.

  • I want to do the exact same thing !!

  • y was the throttle stuck open is that kind of dangerous look at toyota

  • It's really good but the time it's advanced..

  • Sounds tough as hell good job!!!

  • freakin sick

  • that is a sick ass project. sweet

  • 350?

  • 350?

  • are those the stock axle assemblies?

  • what size lift is on that

  • procomp 4" with a 2" spacer

  • must be the donor car by the garage??

  • yeah, it now has a cammed LS2

  • so sick, hahah thing JUST FITS into the garage jeez

  • nice jeep.how good is it on gas?

  • 18hwy, 14-15city

  • thats a bad bitch

  • sounds great

  • Dude, you got one long ass driveway

  • @deathfactor050 mine a mile long lol

  • Nice Jeep man,

If you dont mind, about how much do you have invested? Jeep and all?

    Thanks

  • probably around 15,000

  • Badass jeep man looks great sounds beast

  • what is the tire size and how high is the lift

  • 35'' tires with about a 5.5'' lift

  • LOL at 1:01. Scared the camera man.

  • Newsflash to the dude with the 355hp cammed beast! A cam, and that LS1 would be mopping the floor your car.

  • DolceCJ, Love these morons that keep the normal people reading comments. Wtihout the lack of mental aptitude it would be so boring.

TxJeepTJ, nice swap, I should cost you oh what, the cost of a CAI and exhaust + headers to make up 30whp on that motor..... oh wait..... lol damn already done during the swap.

  • Cam + tune would knock it way past his numbers

  • Sweet Jeep, id be nice to see it drag with that camaro

  • BFD on the video. Does your wife drive it. My CJ5 with AMC 6.0 will make this look slow. AMC makes real power not that imitation camaro crap.

  • lol, ok buddy. 51 years old and talking shit on the internet, wow.

  • lmao....Check out the whooping power output of the AMC V8 line up (wikipedia). Pathetic. Id be bitter too. Take your old POS and drive it into a river....Preferably with you inside.

  • wikipedia? lol, is for freak'n idiots

  • You got me...I did not have my copy of "Guide to Huge Engines With Low Power Output And Poor Efficiency That Are No Longer Produced by Now Defunct Car Manufacturers" handy....

  • so, what is it like to have a V8 with less power than my mom's V6 economy car??

  • Hell of a V6. My 5.9, fully rebuilt, .030 over, comp cams, lifters, timimg set, MSD, 3 angle valve job on the heads, performer intake, headers, flow master is putting out 355 HP and 421 ft lbs of torque. 1/4 mile 103 mph in low 14's. No its not the same engine as wa used in the late 70's.

  • so your HEAVILY modded engine only makes an extra 30hp over MY STOCK engine....????? that camaro up in the video STOCK has a 6.0 L 400hp/400ftlbs, with JUST A CAM(no tune either) put down 430hp TO THE WHEELS. Also, it still gets 20mpg, so much for 'AMC makes real power' lol

  • nice camaro lol

  • i like to see someone stick the new corvette engine and tranny in a jeep with a good 4wheel drive running gear

  • search for 'LS2 wrangler' thats a guy i know. its not the LS7, but its still a beast

  • did you take that LS1 out of that poor camaro, hope you did right by that f body and put a proper engine in it

  • we made the SS into a 3.8L v6 camaro.

just joking, it got a crate LS2 w/ a big cam

  • that makes me feel better, badass jeep btw

  • Do you have a D44 in the back and Chromoly shafts all around? or are you just gonna baby it?

  • ford 8.8 in the back 4.10

  • you wont put the I6 in the camaro ;)

  • lmao camera man...

    sneezes at 1:01

  • lol actually, my gf was on the camera, the throttle was stuck so i romped on the gas and it scared her

  • Did you take the ls1 out of the Camaro?

  • Now thats a jeep.....JEEP POWER!

  • bless you

  • Did you transfer the 6 speed fromt the camaro or did you leave the 5 speed from the jeep. Also what kind of mpg does it get?

  • its a sport sooo if its a manual the ax15 is plenty strong to take that power and he prolly gets about 15 depending on his driving

  • used a 4l60e w/ a heavy duty torque converter and synergy clutch discs

  • oh and it gets about 17mpg highway and 14 city

  • How hard was it to fab the engine and trans mounts? Did you have to shorten the drive shaft to fit the 4L60E?

  • the motor mounts were tidious, because thats something that needs to be perfect. just lowered the engine into the bay w/ a hoist, then used some C-clamps to hold the motor mounts where they need to be, took the engine out and welded them in. Trans mount was simple, drilled 2 holes through my skid plate, bolted the trans mount to the skid plate

  • oops i spelt tedious wrong

  • oh and i had to lengthen the rear shaft and shorten the front

  • what kind of trans is it, and howed you get all the wrining to work?

  • mildly built 4L60E w/ heavy duty torque converter, wiring was simple- ran the LS1 pcm to run the motor only and kept the jeep pcm to run gauges and everything else

  • nice sounds like a pretty confusing wiring job...

  • lol....close fit into the garage huh...nice jeep

    -Rez-

  • Did u literally take the LS1 out of the Camaro and transfer to the Jeep? lol Should try putting the old jeep motor in the Camaro, just for kicks lol

  • yup, after a rebuild transfered it to the jeep. lol i dont think my brother would like an inline 6 to replace his new LS2 which is now putting down 500RWHP/TQ to the ground

  • Thats a sick ride. I got a 95 Wrangler. Once you go Jeep, you dont go back.

  • Sweet she all Good Now I bet? have ya gone off road yet? that will be fun if ya already havent The power to climb steep hills rocks almost anything with that V8 My Friend

  • Ok did ya fix the problem?

  • yea it was just how i had the throttle cable connected to the pedal

  • Nice Jeep shes a real looker wat happened to the camra? when ur throttle stuck did something Hit camra?

  • my gf was recording, i hit the throttle really quick to try to unstick it-which scared her lol

  • damn that just barely fits in your garage!

  • does it do this to you alot

  • idle high? no never

  • Nice jeep, but, definately not the car you want to be driving, while trying to sneak back into the house after midnight...

would love to see you do more with it, than sit in the yard, revving the engine and pissing off the neighbors...

  • This was actually the first time i ever drove the jeep after the swap. if you want to see a video a little more interesting i uploaded a new video titled "9/14/08". theres no where to offroad legally here soo i cant fulfill that video request just yet

  • hey, i just finished putting 8 bolt chevy 3/4 ton axles under my jeep, and have an ls1 ready to go in just wondering if there are any tips or big problems you came accross during your build. The only difference is im using a turbo 400 instead of the 4l60e

  • Hey, I didn't read your build-up so I dunno if you said it or not, but what axles are you running under that? I want to keep my Dana 30 up front with some Alloy chromoly shafts, SOLID diff cover, and Aussie locker...but the Dana 35 has got to go. Want to put a Ford 8.8 with an ARB or OX locker and Alloy Chromoly shafts...

  • i had the d35 on it for about 2 months, then i went to a ford 8.8" up front im still running the d30 open dif

  • Awesome...that is what I wanted to hear. I was considering doing the swap, then saving for a little while and then doing the 8.8 swap but was afraid that no matter what, the 35 would snap under the LS1. Thanks!

Did you end up selling the 35? How much?

  • actually, since the 8.8" had 4.10 gears i had to get a 4.10 d30 and i knew someone that had 4.10's front and rear (i originaly had 4.56) soo i gave him my d35/30 4.56's and he gave me his d30 4.10 then we sold the rear d35 w/ 4.10's for about $300. hopefuly you could follow that along cuz its pretty confusing in writing

  • Oh, really? I didn't know Jeeps came with gearing other than 4.10s...mine have 4.10, so I am looking for a 4.10 Ford 8.8. Eventually I'll probably gear lower for rock crawling but thats it.

  • no they didnt come with 4.56's they came with 3.73 but i changed them

  • my dad got a new 2008 wrangler but it looks different, his has different door handles and i think its wider, and its a rubicon. but its not a V8 :(

  • Dude, awesome jeep. BUT WHATs WITH THE HARD TOP??????? take that crap off and get a bikini top and no doors. That would look and sound real badass!!!!!!!!!

  • ive been using a bikini/duster all summer long, this weekend im taking it to the beach and getting some video soo stay posted

  • haha my god man thats awesome may have it???

  • Where's the ladder to climb into that beast?? lol j/k. I gotta 02' Wrangler X, love it, wouldnt trade it for anything. dont have a lift on mine...yet...Nice Jeep, Man.

  • jeeps should come from the factory with the option of a V8. i bet the 4.7 would fit perfectly...

  • Nice dude, truck and house lol..

  • aww man don't tell me you pulled the motor out of that Cam in the background??

  • yea, but dont worry the camaro has a cammed LS2 now. reason is, that camaro went through water, the ls1 in it hydrolocked- i took the ls1 and rebuilt it and insurance paid for the ls2

  • very nice!

how much did the build cost?

  • i'd say around $5000

  • only $5000?!

  • Why do people use an ls1? are they cheap? easy to get ahold of? Did you just pull it out of that camaro right there?

  • ls1's are one of the most reliable engines out there, they are light(all aluminum), adapters are easily available

  • i have a jeep ..and thinking to do the same ..did u get a manual transmsions or auto ..and aprox. how much the swap cost you ... it sound very very goood man

    thanks

  • i used an gm auto 4l60e, they do not make adapters for the gm manual trans(t56) to connect to the np231. you can always go with the nv3550 or soo but i didnt want to spend that much money. it cost around 5grand

  • what about the instrument a.d speedo meters ..are they working ..did u buy espical harness or used the normal ls1 harness ..

thanks for the replay man ..

  • everything on the jeeps cluster works except for the tach. i bought a brand new ls1 wiring harness, nothing special- just the harness for the engine only

  • very nice work man ...i'm really impressed .. thanks for answering my questions ...

  • Sounds awesome! Remember this on Jeepforum, great work!

  • Nice!!! What exhaust do you have? I just put an AMC 360 into my CJ7 and am looking into the exhaust for next month. Just running headers for now.

  • i did true dual 2.5'' pipe to SLP Loudmout 2 mufflers, then dumped. look at my other vids and theres a clip of the new exhaust set up

  • what v-8 is that? sounds nice with no exhaust

  • ls1, 5.7L out of a 2000 camaro SS

  • is that the camaro you took it out of at 26 seconds?

  • yea, my brother was driving that car through water and hydrolocked the engine. insurance gave him $6k, he bought a LS2 crate engine and i bought the LS1 from him for $400 and rebuilt it

  • nice sounds great

  • damn, an ls1 for $400, thats a hell of a deal, i wish i could find one for that cheap lol

anyways thats a sweet jeep you have man, props

  • nice jeep i want one

  • hey whats the price tag to do something like that???

  • not including engine/trans/axles/driveshafts- just about 2grand maybe a little less

  • oh haha. How long did you run it with the

D35? Im in the middle of putting a 5.9 in mine and am planning on running the 35 for a few weeks until i can get a D44 in.

  • about a month
