I love it. Jeep/Chrysler should have pulled their heads out of their asses and put a 4.7 V8 in the unlimited. If a 3,400 lb Dakota can have it why can't the current 5,000 + lbs Wrangler four door get it? Good job on correcting Jeep's deficiency. I had a V8 CJ 7 and it needed the engine to turn 35's.
I have a 1997 TJ. I was looking at putting a 5.3 LM7 due you think the AX-15 is a strong enough transmission for the job I want a manual I was going to beef it up what is your advice on this matter?
@loon1385 if you don't beat on it, the AX-15 could survive, but I would just go ahead and spend the money and get a better transmission now since if you blow the AX15 you will spend twice the amount on new adapters adapting a different transmission to the engine
@25Celtics it barely fits, I had to notch the frame about an inch on the passenger side in order for the engine to fit with the ac compressor mounted at its stock location. Other than that, if you have the tools it is doable
@animalwaldir89 Thanks, engine mounts were bought from an adapter company. I just cut off the old mounts, shaved it down to bare frame- dropped the engine in w/ the new mounts attached and welded them in
How much was the cost of the installation, did you do it yourself or a local mechanic ? I'm thinking of buying a old cheap tj with lots of miles and attempt an engine swap.
@Socomnick I did it myself, installation was free because of that. Adapters and all, I'm not sure on the exact cost, but I would say under $5000 for everything (and that is everything motor, trans, adapters and all the little tiny things you wouldn't think about but you need). I'm not sure of the prices of the adapters now, maybe they went down in cost. Buying an old TJ w/ a lot of miles and doing this would be a very good idea
Dude, do you wanna be my friend and give me some advice on how to do something like this to my 2002 jeep wrangler sport =)...or tell me of anyone who does this around the souther california are =)...please =)
@thebrassbeast looks like you might be out of luck, being in California I hear their emissions is Nazi like. Send me a private message and I'll give you my email if you want info though
not to hate or anything thats a sick ride i can honestly say im jealous, but if you get that thing up to high speeds with that v8 and take a corner you'll flip that thing in a second
@xpenn420 I don't think high speeds are necessary for that, a relative was driving this and flipped it 2-3 times going under 50mph. Front right tire when off the road a little and got into some wet grass, swerved back onto the road- front right side slid causing the jeep to go sideways and flip multiple times
@willymywonka I basicly got the engine for free, if I wouldn't have I prob. wouldn't have done the swap to begin with. The camaro ran through some water and hydrolocked the engine. Insurance gave $6000 for the engine, so a LS2 crate engine was bought for it. The LS1 was in fine condition except for a broken piston rod
Hey do you goto Tech? I could have sworn I've seen your jeep up here. Mine is the LSX powered jeep on you tube. (Yellow). I would like to check how yours turned out if you don't mind.
@superjeep97 yes I go to Tech, I think I have seen your jeep, I was at a light and a yellow jeep passed that didn't sound like a 6cylinder or 4cylinder. Do you have it here at Tech?
I did last summer but I have been building on it in Dallas when I go home. I have nitrous and a turbo that i've been fine tuning on it. Whats your tech mail so I can get your number and check yours out. I hope to bring mine back up this sum again.
Hey do you goto Tech? I could have sworn I've seen your jeep up here. Mine is the LSX powered jeep on you tube. (Yellow). I would like to check how yours turned out if you don't mind.
DolceCJ, Love these morons that keep the normal people reading comments. Wtihout the lack of mental aptitude it would be so boring.
TxJeepTJ, nice swap, I should cost you oh what, the cost of a CAI and exhaust + headers to make up 30whp on that motor..... oh wait..... lol damn already done during the swap.
lmao....Check out the whooping power output of the AMC V8 line up (wikipedia). Pathetic. Id be bitter too. Take your old POS and drive it into a river....Preferably with you inside.
You got me...I did not have my copy of "Guide to Huge Engines With Low Power Output And Poor Efficiency That Are No Longer Produced by Now Defunct Car Manufacturers" handy....
Hell of a V6. My 5.9, fully rebuilt, .030 over, comp cams, lifters, timimg set, MSD, 3 angle valve job on the heads, performer intake, headers, flow master is putting out 355 HP and 421 ft lbs of torque. 1/4 mile 103 mph in low 14's. No its not the same engine as wa used in the late 70's.
so your HEAVILY modded engine only makes an extra 30hp over MY STOCK engine....????? that camaro up in the video STOCK has a 6.0 L 400hp/400ftlbs, with JUST A CAM(no tune either) put down 430hp TO THE WHEELS. Also, it still gets 20mpg, so much for 'AMC makes real power' lol
the motor mounts were tidious, because thats something that needs to be perfect. just lowered the engine into the bay w/ a hoist, then used some C-clamps to hold the motor mounts where they need to be, took the engine out and welded them in. Trans mount was simple, drilled 2 holes through my skid plate, bolted the trans mount to the skid plate
mildly built 4L60E w/ heavy duty torque converter, wiring was simple- ran the LS1 pcm to run the motor only and kept the jeep pcm to run gauges and everything else
yup, after a rebuild transfered it to the jeep. lol i dont think my brother would like an inline 6 to replace his new LS2 which is now putting down 500RWHP/TQ to the ground
Sweet she all Good Now I bet? have ya gone off road yet? that will be fun if ya already havent The power to climb steep hills rocks almost anything with that V8 My Friend
This was actually the first time i ever drove the jeep after the swap. if you want to see a video a little more interesting i uploaded a new video titled "9/14/08". theres no where to offroad legally here soo i cant fulfill that video request just yet
hey, i just finished putting 8 bolt chevy 3/4 ton axles under my jeep, and have an ls1 ready to go in just wondering if there are any tips or big problems you came accross during your build. The only difference is im using a turbo 400 instead of the 4l60e
Hey, I didn't read your build-up so I dunno if you said it or not, but what axles are you running under that? I want to keep my Dana 30 up front with some Alloy chromoly shafts, SOLID diff cover, and Aussie locker...but the Dana 35 has got to go. Want to put a Ford 8.8 with an ARB or OX locker and Alloy Chromoly shafts...
Awesome...that is what I wanted to hear. I was considering doing the swap, then saving for a little while and then doing the 8.8 swap but was afraid that no matter what, the 35 would snap under the LS1. Thanks!
actually, since the 8.8" had 4.10 gears i had to get a 4.10 d30 and i knew someone that had 4.10's front and rear (i originaly had 4.56) soo i gave him my d35/30 4.56's and he gave me his d30 4.10 then we sold the rear d35 w/ 4.10's for about $300. hopefuly you could follow that along cuz its pretty confusing in writing
Oh, really? I didn't know Jeeps came with gearing other than 4.10s...mine have 4.10, so I am looking for a 4.10 Ford 8.8. Eventually I'll probably gear lower for rock crawling but thats it.
Dude, awesome jeep. BUT WHATs WITH THE HARD TOP??????? take that crap off and get a bikini top and no doors. That would look and sound real badass!!!!!!!!!
Where's the ladder to climb into that beast?? lol j/k. I gotta 02' Wrangler X, love it, wouldnt trade it for anything. dont have a lift on mine...yet...Nice Jeep, Man.
yea, but dont worry the camaro has a cammed LS2 now. reason is, that camaro went through water, the ls1 in it hydrolocked- i took the ls1 and rebuilt it and insurance paid for the ls2
i have a jeep ..and thinking to do the same ..did u get a manual transmsions or auto ..and aprox. how much the swap cost you ... it sound very very goood man
i used an gm auto 4l60e, they do not make adapters for the gm manual trans(t56) to connect to the np231. you can always go with the nv3550 or soo but i didnt want to spend that much money. it cost around 5grand
everything on the jeeps cluster works except for the tach. i bought a brand new ls1 wiring harness, nothing special- just the harness for the engine only
yea, my brother was driving that car through water and hydrolocked the engine. insurance gave him $6k, he bought a LS2 crate engine and i bought the LS1 from him for $400 and rebuilt it
I love it. Jeep/Chrysler should have pulled their heads out of their asses and put a 4.7 V8 in the unlimited. If a 3,400 lb Dakota can have it why can't the current 5,000 + lbs Wrangler four door get it? Good job on correcting Jeep's deficiency. I had a V8 CJ 7 and it needed the engine to turn 35's.

actually, since the 8.8" had 4.10 gears i had to get a 4.10 d30 and i knew someone that had 4.10's front and rear (i originaly had 4.56) soo i gave him my d35/30 4.56's and he gave me his d30 4.10 then we sold the rear d35 w/ 4.10's for about $300. hopefuly you could follow that along cuz its pretty confusing in writing
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
Oh, really? I didn't know Jeeps came with gearing other than 4.10s...mine have 4.10, so I am looking for a 4.10 Ford 8.8. Eventually I'll probably gear lower for rock crawling but thats it.

no they didnt come with 4.56's they came with 3.73 but i changed them

aww man don't tell me you pulled the motor out of that Cam in the background??
iainthornton 3 years ago
yea, but dont worry the camaro has a cammed LS2 now. reason is, that camaro went through water, the ls1 in it hydrolocked- i took the ls1 and rebuilt it and insurance paid for the ls2
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
very nice!
how much did the build cost?
kyguy6677 3 years ago
i'd say around $5000
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
only $5000?!
kyguy6677 3 years ago
Why do people use an ls1? are they cheap? easy to get ahold of? Did you just pull it out of that camaro right there?
damanwitoutaname 3 years ago
ls1's are one of the most reliable engines out there, they are light(all aluminum), adapters are easily available
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
i have a jeep ..and thinking to do the same ..did u get a manual transmsions or auto ..and aprox. how much the swap cost you ... it sound very very goood man
thanks
pilot346 3 years ago
i used an gm auto 4l60e, they do not make adapters for the gm manual trans(t56) to connect to the np231. you can always go with the nv3550 or soo but i didnt want to spend that much money. it cost around 5grand
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
what about the instrument a.d speedo meters ..are they working ..did u buy espical harness or used the normal ls1 harness ..
thanks for the replay man ..
pilot346 3 years ago
everything on the jeeps cluster works except for the tach. i bought a brand new ls1 wiring harness, nothing special- just the harness for the engine only
TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago

lindensurfer88 3 years ago

TxJeepTJ713 3 years ago
