Actually you are right, there are no "innocent children". We are all born under the "curse" of sin. And we as sinners killed Christ, and yet he knew this and still gave his life to save us from this curse. As God himself it is the ultimate sacrafice and demonstration of Love. Unfortunately most "choose" not to claim him as savior from this curse because of rebellion and "free will". He warns against this but too many are deceived and fall for the ultimate "lie".
