  • I love the FUNK in all its forms. Even tha Funk that was really treble influenced, just right for AM radio in the early 70s. Stuff with a lot of Fender Rhodes,Clavinets,Guitars and Hard Vocals.

Even the Deep Warm Groove Bass oriented FM radio stuff like Flashlight,More Bounce, Rapper Dapper Snapper.

  • Oh.Hells.Yes.

  • FUNK YEAH!

  • this girl i s naming all the blakc rockers, isaac hayes is really rock and roll, bill preston is really rock and roll, curtis mayfield is really rock and roll, amazing lady

  • It's got an early Funkadelic vibe.

  • I wonder why...*rolls eyes*

  • Oh, okay! Thanx Funknroll for clarifying.

  • I wonder if she did sing the song called "Soul Sister" or was it Tina Turner?

  • You may be thinking of "Bold Soul Sister", a 1970 song that Ike & Tina Turner did. (The riff is a variation on Sly's "Sing a Simple Song").

Check out the Ed Sullivan Show performance on YouTube!

  • This chick was superhot, the real original with attitude.Singers like Pink, Christine Aguleira are comical imitators compared to Betty Davis...

  • SIMPLY AMAZING.

  • Jimi Hendrix, Betty Davis, Eddie Hazel, Funkadelic and Jr. Walker. aaaall the way.

  • 2:46 Hershall Happiness Kennedy on the Clavinet he was with Graham Central Station. Larry graham also played on this album.

  • Anybody know whatever happened to Betty Davis? She was waaaaayyy ahead of her time!!

  • Incase no one else responded...Betty was written up when her CD's were re-released ah...either early this year or last year. DOesn't have a lot of dough...she got out of the biz a long time ago. Anyway, I remember an article saying she was kind of a homebody....

  • This young slip of a thing, blows everyone away! Oww, me likes! How the hell have I not come across her for before. Like going through life without Stevie or Tina. Amazing! This has got to be heard, where do I pick up the CD. I'm blown away.

  • I had the "album" when it came out, this is the UNDISPUTED queen of funk rock! w/ cats like Larry Graham, Hershall Happiness (GCS)Buddy Miles, Neal Schon (Santana, Journey)The Pointer Sisters, Sylvester, Gregg Errico (Sly & Fam Stone) and even hubby Miles, yall missed it! I saw her live once, awesome! still huntin' for LIVE videos, anybody holdin"? oh yeah, also on that BD show was a new band, The Commodores and brother Gil Scott-Heron!

  • This shit is so fuckin' awesome. Great times, thanks a lot.

  • nice fro

  • Pretty nice!

I love "hard 70's funk" particularly Funkadelic. You know "tougher" than alot of the "synth nice stuff" which isn't all bad but doesn't have the same "guts".

I am familiar with the "major players". Anyone see some rare stuff on here that is "hard"

    Thanks!

  • Sister is badd...one of my favs !!!!!

    Her and Miles Davis...what a hookup...must have been a party allright !

  • I'm Very impressed

You funknroll , are a VERY FUNKY MAN ON YOUTUBE.

A Whole tribute for the constructors of ANTS ON THE PANTS, ON THE ONE.

  • betty davis is a funk goddess

  • When was this recorded? Soul-funk legends roll call! Can't get enough of this "edgy" stuff - as opposed to the vile toxic mutation (i.e. much of today's "successful" hiphop)

  • This is 1975. Learn more about Betty at: myspace(dot)com/bettymabrydavis

  • Great memories, great artists, great times!!

  • Mr. M was here. : )

  • Tina looks pissed in that picture (1:22)... :D

  • Yeah, Tina was standing next to Ike in the full photo, who seemed to be telling her something to do in a recording studio. That would explain it. I used it because she looks like a badass.

  • I should have known Ike did it... :D Where did you find it?

  • It came from the always excellent MOJO Magazine, which must be the best Rock mag ever made. All of you out there should check it out for the deep articles and the best photos!

  • Cool. Never heard of it. But cool... :D

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY!

  • It's time to bring back the Funk in Black Music again because it's gotten to slick with this bling bling Beyonce and R.Kellys of the world. We need the raw shit again.

  • See the new sequel video, "YVONNE FAIR -FUNKY MUSIC SHO' NUFF TURNS ME ON (1975)"! Just click my name and check it out!

  • Yo Dark, yes I am a black person who digs rock!...But I dig jazz, funk and r&b also

  • hands down !

  • Nice presentation. What is Betty up to today. I am a huge Davis fan, grooved to her funk back n da day, saw her once open for GCS (Larry Graham), she rocked the place. Betty was way a head of her time. I still have orginal Lp's and updated with import cd's.

  • The issue before the current issue of wax poetics magazine had Betty on the cover and a thorough article and recent interview!!!

  • Be sure to check out the NEW video, "HE WAS A BIG FREAK", too! It seems to be escaping YouTube's radar and isn't appearing with the other Betty videos. Hit "More from this user" to your right and scroll down...

  • THIS IS HOT!

  • What a tribute to the funk, which really got fertilized in O-H-I-O. Great add.

  • holy shit yes, im new to this but its fucking amazing! cheers for posting.

  • I actually saw Betty LIVE in Virginia at Carter Baron Ampitheatre opening for Grand Central Station in 73. She was raw and rauching. Dressed just like her photos. I was a HUGE fan. The funkiest chic EVER. Thanks for finally posting this. Amazing!!!!

  • Not wanting to step on your funk. But the carter Baron Ampitheatre is in Washington DC. I'm also a big fan and I went to every show she played in the DC area. Iether just to see her or Other acts she shared the bill with. She was restrained at Carter Baron Ampitheatre. But she let her freak out at the Capital Center. I shot her whole show on super 8. If consumer video was out then, you would be enjoying it here on youtube.

    Peace.

  • My bad! and I'm actually from DC, LOL! You are right, her show there wasn't as crazy as I'd hoped but still made my night. If you have great footage can you somehow transfer & upload it. That you be great!

  • I am trying to find some place that would transfer super 8 to video. when I do so I will hook it up with a sound track.

If you know of any place in the DC area that does that, let me know.

I also shot hundreds of photos of her perfoemances. I plan to put them together in a slide show on video with a sound track and upload that also.

  • god damn, how funky can it get ? Who are you ? Keep it alive gal !

  • this is a revelation, thanks for posting !

  • This is fantastic! thanks for the post!

  • Great music, voice and attitude and costumes!! Sadly no film!! Goddamnit!! Ditto for FANNY and BIRTHA!!!

  • i mad luv that girl!!!!

  • Betty Mabry aka Betty Davis was light years ahead of her time. She was more than a Nasty Gal. She had the vision to expose her then husband Miles Davis to a new world. He began to listen to Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. This was the period he recorded Bitches Brew and went into fusion. Betty's music and face has resurfaced after a long absence. Betty has chosen to live in anonymity over the years. But her music has found a new audience. I hope Betty has solace with her new found popularity.

  • Thanks for the comments; it's becoming clear how much many of us care about her, and new folks are catching on, too. Tell any of your friends about the videos so we can spread the love!

  • Betty Davis my fav Funk chic
