I think you misunderstood what is meant by "sacrifice" here. This isn't those "Aztec" type sacrifices where the goat is just killed and dumped. The meat is given to needy people. With so many Muslims in the world celeberating this holiday can u imagine how many hungry people are fed on this day? Its by God's beautiful wisdom that this "sacrifice" feeds so many people.
I fail to see any beautiful wisdom in such cruelty. There are many better ways of helping people than indulging in this kind of slaughter. I understand that it is a religious tradition, however, I think it is one that needs to be moved away from. Mercy and compassion can't be reconciled with killing.

The sacrifice is using your wealth to feed the poor. Thats what God wants. You don't even have to do the slaughter, you can just buy the meat and give it to a poor family, but someone still has to do the slaughter. God says in the Quran "It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah: it is your piety that reaches him"
A better, more practical way to help the poor is to give money to Oxfam. This is blood sacrifice, because slaughter is performed. The reality on the ground is that great suffering is caused in the name of God to celebrate this festival. That's just the way I see it. The whole thing is unnecessary. It's pointless. If you wish to worship God, fine, but do so in a way that avoids killing.
