I remember when I was a grom you'd get days at hb or sunset and the water would be clear like this.. You'd see baby leopard sharks and such swimming around shit was fucking dope especially duck diving with you're eyes open
I live at 22nd street in HB and I've been surfing for about seven years on a daily basis and I can stat that this was the clearist day at HB since I lived here. I remember actually surfing that day.. I believe I did more swimming underwater than surfing lol, but I was taking advantage of this day. What a rare video.. thanks for uploading.
Woah!! That's surreal! I'm still pretty new to surfing myself, so those waves combined with the crystal look pretty nice to me! Ah one day I'm sure I'll be stoked to see double overs! thanks for sharing this video! :)
@SeanfromHawaii82 - and lucky you if you're there to enjoy it. as you might gather from many of the other comments, that definitely isn't the case here - as much as we might want it to be.
hi there! look at me.... so pretty.. so clear.. stunning coasts.... lovely sand... come on in!!!!!! stick big toe in- instant hypothermia. yeah- i got your gig ms. pacific. eek.
@robbylynchable - no argument there really. my intent was to capture the phenomenon which is very uncommon for huntington beach. i was tempted to go get my board and go out just for the experience, but if i want a ride, i'm going to wait for way better waves than that.
@nowhinerbabies hey geniuses that think this wasn't shot in huntington, take a look at the power plant in the background at around 45 seconds into the video.
@surfrpnk umm yeah, I already acknowledged it my friend but I guess you missed that post genius. Maybe I was dissapointed because I wasn't in the water that day... Anyway, it's all good man, no reason to be mad bro...that was really nice footage.
This is Huntington Beach. Freeze frame :48 and you can see the smokestacks of the electrical plant down PCH. My house is just up the street from there. It rarely gets this clear - but this IS H.B.
great video! i have seen the water that clear in santa monica occasionally, i think its due to tropical storms off of mexico and the affect they have on the current. when it was clear in santa monica i saw a lot of animals in the water that i normally dont see
I have lived and surfed Huntington all my life 58 years. One time in the late seventies it was small Santa Ana conditions and water was just like this. We walked out on the pier and you could see the fish swimming around all the way out to the end of the pier. Never seen it again until this vid.
@MisterDanLorth I grew up in Orange County...about 10 years in Huntington Beach. I recall some very nice clear days but not to this extent...I guess I missed out. I go to Hawaii a couple of times a year and this is very typical for the islands but that's probably more because of the reefs and proximity to the equator. I'm probably moving down towards Carlsbad in the next few years...I have to be close to the ocean to exist.
@ARSWebDesign that's one for the books for sure! I sure I would have known about that...I would have dropped everything and headed on down. Absolutely amazing!!
@joey62978 what's the point of making it up? like i said before, you can believe it or not, but all the video and stills were shot right off the huntington beach pier.
@eldavido761 - you can believe it or not, but that's where i shot it. that's rocky mckinnon on the paddleboard - you can verify with him if you'd like.
@eldavido761 Sorry, but it is. You can see the power plant in the background, plus the angle of the shot. I was one of the first body-boarders from HB (myself [Terry McCord],) my brother-in-law Ot Boonchaeron, Chris Cunningham, and a few others remember we've had a couple like this. Mind you it was late 80's to mid 90's, but it has happened several times. Hell I even remember a day we got hit with a swarm of jellyfish. You may not be old enough to remember. + we charged after the pier broke.
Why do so many people worry about sharks so much? I know they are scary but very very few people die from them. You are more likely to die in a car accident driving down to the beach than a shark attack.
@starshell84 - on a day like that, there's not much danger of slamming into the pier - as long as you know what you're doing. yes, there are sharks, but very rarely - in the 27 years they've been tracking shark attacks along the california coast, there has not been a single incident at huntington beach.
reminds me of the day i surfed oside ns pier and i couldnt believe i could see my shdadow in the water it was crazy but its a whole different feeling, nice upload
Surfer dans une eau translucide ça change tout !! dommage que les vagues ne soit pas un peu plus grosse mais c'est joli tout de même !!! ça me rappel la bretagne !!!
nope, nothing but sand.. .not even a single rock here and there, just plain sand, which is sometimes a good thing.. nice sand bars, or bad, when the storms suck it all out to see and everything becomes like 10-12 ft, walls !
