The is250 target market is not those interested in racing around. It is more aimed for the more mature driver who wants a nice comfortable ride with all the bits and pieces that go with it - e.g in care facilities (Leather seats, sat nav etc.)

You don't get more hp, but you do get the ability to shift a little bit later than the automatic doing it for you. I don' remember what the top speed on that is which is either way irrelevant because that wasn't the purpose of the vid im assuming, but you do get a little bit faster acceleration depending on your gear ratios. I noticed that the shifts occurred a little bit before redline.

Notice how the car shifts before the redline, that's because you're in PWR mode. The fastest runs have been proven to be done in full automatic with the Normal mode. The car will hold the gears longer and will shift at the redline if you do it in Normal.

High RPM with in normal operating RPM is not bad for the engine, infact idleing and stop start short runs on a cold engine will increase engine wear far more than 6000rpm ever would be on a new age direct injection v6.

@Cha3st3r3 ect power only gives you better shift points, it won't make anything faster under WOT. And why not do it? An engine isn't designed to be peddled around town all day, or else they'd design all cars with a torque curve like diesels. Give the pedal a mash every so often.

I have an IS250, And have driven many hondas as well as the Accord V6 and Euro. The Lexus drives smoother more refined, The 14 speaker Mark Levinson sound sytem makes Hondas stuff seem like a joke. You dont buy a Lexus for a race car you buy it becasue its an amazing ride its quality its smooth..Honda my bottom. I looked over the last 3 months and made my mind up after testing over 20 cars.

I have owned both - accord is faster and handles more predictably - lexus is somewhat detached but very relaxing, I have taken both to track days - although the lexus is rwd its not as tight on the track and is a little sloppy - at the limit its just not there... But thats not why you buy an is 250 - you buy one because its relaxing, looks good and BMW's are so boring.. Everyone has one. But Honda do know how to build a good motor car as well.

They could easily have made the 2.5 in the IS250 more powerful, but I imagine Lexus assumed that it would hurt the sales of the IS350. And the IS250 AWD still sells like hot cakes, so apparently they know their market.

That said, I wish they wouldn't have left the 250 so limp-wristed. I own one. I love it, great daily driver. A bit more understeer than I like, but I've got a swaybar and some better tires on the way that should tighten it up. But powerful it is indeed not.

id say as something designed to be an overall great car, the IS250 does a superb job. Sure you might be attracted to the similarly priced, better performing BMW 328, but in reality you'll find Lexus is better value for money. The 328's base price is attractive, but there's many hidden costs. Leather seats arent standard, MPG is worse, reliability is questionable. When its all said and done, in the end you might as well have just bought the IS250's much faster big brother, the IS350

Yes its a V6, but its only 2.5 liters. That means its got the same displacement as the 4 cyls from the Camry, Accord, Malibu, Fusion, etc. Even more impressive is that its just as fuel efficient as these cars, rated at 21/29 MPG even though its RWD. The IS250 makes 204 HP while all those cars make 160-190 HP, and it goes 0-60 in 7 sec while all these others are 9+ sec
