Not only did Alex win gold for Canada he also brought along his older brother Frederick who has CP which show us the human side of of life we don't see very often but very touching for the whole world to see.
Any American's posting negative responces to Canadian gold medals, should come over and serve in Afghan for a few months with the US & Canadian's troops and watch as Canada has to bury one. I'm proud to say I enjoyed watching Canada take the Gold....even if I wished the US had it..
okay how about.. everyone just shuts up about whether he speaks english well or not or if he took his hat off or not, and if VANOC did a great or not so great job with the olympics... how about you just enjoy one of the most proudest moment in canadian history and show some respect! i'd love to see you win a gold medal for you country and then watch everyone chirp you for something you did or didnt do, just drop it. LETS GO CANADA!! ALEX BILODEAU <3

This clown didn't have enough respect for his country to take his snow hat off during the Canadian National Anthem during his award ceremony....way to go Alexandre.....very dissapointing!!
This is not a customary practice in Quebec. This has nothing to do with being a separatist or not. There is just no ritual related to the National anthem beside standing up.
I'm not even sure it is customary in English Canada because. I've seen plenty of Canadian winter athletes at other games who didn't take their snow hat off during the Anthem.
You're blowing this out of proportion. I think you suspect him of not being "canadian enough" because he is from Quebec.
Who cares if he forgot to take off his toque. Yes it is customary, but you just one the Olympic Gold Medal. The first ever on home soil for Canada. Give the guy a little break. How much do you think would be going through your head at that very moment. I'm sure that the toque on your head could possibly be forgotten when thinking about everything you sacrificed for that very moment.
holy shit dude u r a fucked up retard. he just did something that no canadian has ever done b4!show some respect! I hate how u ppl always have to find something to complain about no matter wat this person is doin for the country. he is one of the sweetest and hardest working guys ever, and shouldnt be put down just because of some thread that was sewn together. jeez.
oh yeah... very dissapointing... everyone hates him for that... By the way, I'm from Quebec and I'll answer your comment by saying that he didn't take it off because he forgot or because he didn't know he had to take it off. I didn't know.
Alex has made Canada proud and strong on so many levels.
I know this wasn't his intention, but I think he gave a good jab at the seperatists here in Quebec by bringing french and english canadians closer together. He deserves a second medal just for that.
We are eternally grateful Alex!! You're no. 1! Go Canada!!!!!!

Vancouver Olympics are becoming an embarrasment for Canada. The Calgary Olympics were awesome....Vancouver just doesnt seem to have it together this year. Not meant to take anything away from the athletes, but I am dissapointed in the Vancouver organizers.
No I mean more of the mistakes that VANOC has been making and the general lack of character and atmosphere at the Games. First a death of an athlete some, malfunctions during the opening ceremonies,no access to the Olympic flame, refunding tickets, the weather, problems with ice machines at the speed skating, security issues with the VP of the USA...the list seems to continue to grow every day and its a shame.
@twopie2 It's a large event, there will be all kinds of glitches, that is inevitable. Happens at every Olympics not just here. Weather is not a flaw, it's uncontrollable and no access to the flame you can thank the anarchists who would be throwing paint and kicking it just as they do with store front windows. Unfortunately the lowest common denominator ends up ruining it for everyone just as they did with the sand castle competition, seafest, fireworks, I'm sure you know the list. Cheers.
Valid points and its too bad some ruin it for all, but its not just my observations, many European newspapers are calling this the worst Olympics ever. And its not just the lunatic protesters fault, VANOC must take some responsibility for some poor planning decisions. I was hoping this would be a great Games the way Calgary was.
@twopie2 There was an interesting interview a couple of days ago with the editor of a British newspaper. When asked why the reporting was so negative he stated it was the nature of the British tabloids and in part it was to save face as they were under critism for their upcoming summer games which were already 4 months behind schedule with massive cost over-runs. Also some of the venues were being constructed on contaminated soil. And yes, VANOC has made their share of mistakes.
Oh be quiet it was CTV interviewing they are an english news network if you want it in french then i think you can find that on RDS ... not saying french and english aren't equal but it's becoming a bit like quebecers in canada are finding little things to complain about and whine just as much as the snooty British.
Well it's his second langage, isn't it? At least he IS trying. I wonder how many of us would bother trying to speak french (let alone be comfortable doing it) if the roles were reversed?
Werewolfer: Better to be Cdn and live in an igloo than American and live in a McDonalds! hahahaha
Canada was voted Seven Years in a row by the UN as the BEST Country in the World...Look it up on Google.
I go to Cda very often and feel secure there unlike any other country in the World. People (especially in Quebec) are very friendly and hospitable and a lot of class.
if we didn't get another medal for the rest of the show, I'd be happy just knowing this guy won. the level of admiration I have for him and the love for his brother is beyond any words i can think of ..... so I'll lust buy a poster and hang it where everyone in the family can see.
I have a friend that is autistic and when I seen this story about Alex and his brother you can't help but cheer for this guy. I agree with him 100 percent about how his brother has taught him alot in life. My friend has taught me alot about the important things in life.

This reminds me of the right wing lunatics in the USA who questioned Obama's patriotism because he didn't always wear the flag as a lapel pin.
This is just prejudiced bs.
