The Inquisition, The Witch Trials, The Nazi Era, The Era of Racism in the US, The Red Scare (also in the US), homophobia, et cetera, were/are the result of the brain state and structure of individuals. The scary part is, love is the result of a particular state and structure of the brain too. LOL! Well that is a fact but of course love is only analogous in the sense that it is the result of psychological causality. A brain suffering from bouts of love isn't analogous to a brain filled with hate.
If you really want to know what neurobiological foundations of love are and how one "falls in love," I've located some eBooks describing the causal factors involved. They were found at facts4u com/free (Take the space out of the address and replace it with a period.)
I enjoyed your reading. You put plenty of feeling into your work.
Love at first sight is the result of the male unconsciously attracted to the female in estrus (a state often denied as existing in human females by preachers and poets). Of course, the love at first sight of a female is most often the result of unconscious processes while she is ovulating and she happens to see a male who is in rut. The second kind of love (the subject of Tina Turner's song) is a form of imprinting (bonding) that results from an intimate relationship between the male and female.
Sounds about right to me! On the most basic level, all mammals probably are programmed to need regular physical contact from the act of suckling as infants.
And to that people add our unique abillty to create a simulacrum of the loved person in our head, and keep it with us always, even unto, and beyond, death.
I just had a very beloved Chihuahua die. I felt as if my heart had been rent to pieces. Then I thought about those people who preach and teach and imagine a heaven without nonhuman companions. And I suddenly realized such a heaven would be hell.
Anyway, my little Taco is buried beside the front gate. I planted some flowers and placed some LED solar lights there too. The flowers and stuff made me feel better, even though they are of no use to my Taco (RIP). Yes, love certainly is all consuming.
Singer Tina Turner once asked rhetorically in song, "What's love got to do with it?" She further claimed that love was nothing but a second hand emotion. I wonder. When Annabelle first came into my home, she was skittish of me. She has been with me now for around three months. And she loves to climb into my lap and nuzzle her neck against mine and her cheek against mine. Is that love? I feel it is. She loves me. Is that what you mean? Oh, by the way, she isn't human but Chihuahua. I love her too
Thank you for sharing those lovely sentiments, unseenstrings. If I were only skilled enough to define love, I wouldn't be stumbling around You Tube reading the poetry of others, I would have my head on someone's lap while they professed their undying devotion.
nice poem well read , thankyou .

For all that have ever really tried to understand love - that last line pretty well sums it up! I do like that photo of yours, too :-)

"leaping out of the frying pan of yourself
into the fire of someone else"
That is a classic line.
