  • i have a 89 sierra it seems like everything you said is whats happening to my truck, other then i cant keep it idling when its cold it runs and idles a lot better when its warmed up would that make a difference ive put new wires plugs rotors, everything on the truck just not sure why i know your busy answerin all these questions but if you get a minute let me know thx

  • Do you know why your dakota's trans light is on? Mine suddenly came on 4 months ago. It's got all the fluids. I know I have an oil leak but it's had that before the light came on. Any ideas?

  • @Drama2Karma : take over to a auto parts center and have then check for any codes that will lead you to the problem.

  • My 86 Camaro with a 2.8L V6 idles rough when it is warmed up. runs mint when it's cold though. could that be the IAC valve on my throttle body? or something else?

  • I had an idle issue with my daughters dakota. I ohmed out the throttle position sensor and it seemed fine, then I ohmed out the map sensor and the resistance didn't change at all with different vaccum so I replaced that also. Then I checked the IAC control and it was obviously mechanically broke, it was loose compared to the new part. Replaced it and when it relearned the idle it worked perfect

  • some comments here sound similar to my problem..my ford f150 when on low rpms has a real lousy idle..feels like it will stall but never does..truck runs great otherwise..what are your thoughts?

  • It there a surefire way to tell it's the IAC valve? It probably is. Most of what I'm experiencing sounds like it certainly could be. Idles sluggish in park, horrible in reverse and so-so when I'm in drive and have to come to a stop. All of which feels like it wants to stall out on me. However, it's just fine while I'm driving.

  • okay so my Question is my idle is at 500-1000rpm it goes up and down. I have replaced the heater hose on it due to it was split in half and car was over heating. Will this cause the car to not idle properly? i was trying to find the nut to tighten the rev pulley on the car but i cant find it, i was gonna do it that way first without having to go through the IAC valve and cleaning it first.

  • My 88 thunderbird sometimes will want to stall when I first start it. After a few seconds it will go up and down till it runs normal. I've noticed a few times when I get to work and park my car from reverse it will stall.

  • My 96 Thunderbird hesitates or acts like it doesn't want to go when Im idling for a while at a stop light. I just replaced the Air Intake Controle Valve that was the cause of a fog horn like sound from my engine that i had for 4 months. Is the IAC the cause of my problem now?

    and for the people that has a chevy 92 to 96 the iacv is located right under the air filter cover on passanger side,it look like a big bolt sticking in on the throttle wall with a conector on the end .hope i help somebody!!

  • hi..if you notice that engine light.. ITS ON WHILE YOUR DOINg your test or what ever..IF YOU USE ENGINE SCAN CODE THAT WILL TELL YOU WHAT U NEED TO FIX.....

  • i have a 98 dakota 3.9 i think that is what is wrong with my truck and i have a cause it is doin pretty much wht you should would do...if it is bad would it turn you check engine light on

  • I have a 1998 Chevy S10 v6 4.3L. engine and it has a P0507 code "Idle air control system RPM higher than expected" and it has a high idle when reached over 30mph. When I come to a complete stop then it seems to go back to normal rpm. When I start the truck before I put it in gear it has a high rpm too. Can it be the Idle air control valve that's going bad? Thank you.

  • @nicawarrior1 I took out the idle air control sensor and it was full of gunk, tried cleaning it out but problem is still there. I'm thinking of just replacing it with in the next week or two.

  • @Nachona2700 thanks.. ill also be replacing the idle control sensor and a good cleaning of the throttle body to see if it helps.. dose your car also have a sticky pedal for example when a i reach a certain speedy it takes forever to decelerate.. it almost like cruise control??

  • @nicawarrior1 Cleaning the throttle body will help because I did it and saw a difference. When I accelerate the pedal is fine but once I reach over 30mph it kind of sticks because it stays idled and I literally have to make a complete stop for the idle to get back to normal. Another problem that I have is that when I reach up to 50+ mph and push the gas pedal all the way in the truck hesitates and shakes a bit and it does not respond quick. Does your truck have the same problem? Thanks.

  • @nicawarrior1 Yeah let me know if you replace something or what you do to make it run better. I will be replacing the Idle air control valve and maybe change the cap and rotor and the plugs and wires and I'll let you know how it goes.

  • @Nachona2700 i just recently cleaned my iac and throttle body and i see an improvement but i still have the same problem to a lesser extend. i was hoping that it will clear the P0507 code (Idle air control system RPM higher than expected) but it didn't. so i'll be changing the IAC and hoping to find a cheap one online.

  • @nicawarrior1 hey I took my whole throttle body out and cleaned the hell out of it and replaced the IAC. Cleaned out the mass air flow sensor and connections that go to it too. Now it runs really good and have a quick responce when I gas gas it and no check engine light. Good luck

  • co2 sensor go and replace it and bot some injector cleaner in the tank more then ones

  • normal idle when really warm up at normal temperature is 600 rpm with IAC plugged in... my cold start on the 1999 GMC Envoy is 1000 rpm and drop when it is warming up and stay at 600 rpm when temperature is normal with IAC PLUGGED IN.... and I never change anything that is not broken.

  • I bought a IAC for my 2002 Cadillac Deville and it cost $256.......with tax is $270.

  • did your dakota idle real rough on a cold start and burn alot of extra gas, or have black smoke come out the tailpipe? because I have a 92 dakota and the rough idle with unburned fuel going through the exhaust ruined my catalytic converter.

  • Dont quite your day job as you don't know what your doing. First off IAC's don't go bad very often and most times ceaning them is all thats needed. You don't even have an IAC motor driver or even a scan tool to control the IAC to find out if it is sticking or is bad.

    So just keep throwing parts at it or bring it to somebody like me with the knowledge and tools to diagnose and repair it correctly.

  • @HunterCO1 couldn't have said it better myself, most of the time people replace the IAC because they've read some post on the internet that describes it as the fix for the P0401 and other codes when its really a vacuum leak somewhere else like in the PVC valve hose usually the end that connects into the Intake manifold or even a dirty fuel injector. He sounds like the person at the auto parts store that are so fond of selling oxygen senors that they think fixes every trouble code there is.

  • Hey thanks for making this video! This might be the problem with my 96 Dodge Dakota. I guess it's either the IAC valve or maybe the fuel filter. I hope it is the IAC valve because on my truck the fuel filter sits on top of the gas tank and it's a pain to get to!

  • That iac valve is easy to change and cleanout, my 01 Nissan altimas Iac valve is a bitch to get to due to no room

  • good vid but this guys is a hick stick to your day job and iac valves are not located on the throttle body in every vehicle if most imports (hondas in particuar) the valve is located on the intake manifold!

  • My 2000 Infiniti i30 has a jolting problem when I accelerate from idle at slow speed the car gives my some nasty jolts and I hear a bang as if it pulls back and forth when it reaches the 1500 to 2000 rpm. First it would suddenly stall when I made a stop in the street light. I opened the hood, and cleaned the Air Idle control sensor & it fixed the stalling problem but now the jolting began. Its annoying & now it messed up one of my motor's supports. Could the Air Idle sensor still b da problem?

  • Its not a throttle body its SEFI. An easy way to tell is that the filter would be in that circular part like a carburetor. The last vehicle to have a throttlebody was the 1994 Chevy trucks

  • hell i had a 2003 dodge dakota sxt from rev to drive it would stall out an ive replaced the iac an tps an egr valve an looked to find any vaccum leaks an none an i sold it to a buddy an after a month of him owning it the motor locked up tore it down an everything looked good had new plugs an wires an belt but i dont know it was a 3.9 v crap

  • @saibhy I would check the T.P.S throttle position sensor if it want drop from 1500R's ,check for vacuum leaks, check your O2 sensor(s), check manifold absolute pressure sensor=M.A.P., check manifold air temp. sensor=M.A.T. if not check timing, and idle fuel control. there are vids for checking most sensors on channel autorepairhelp101 i am not affiliated with the channel, but they have great info on all topics. hope this helps

  • I had the same problem on my 97 ram 5.2 After i put in a new tranny, had to replace the IAC valve and then reprogram it back to stock till i was able to tweek it a little

  • i got a dakota too..and i replaced mine...and even after...when i would put it into like drive or reverse..it still hit low RPM ...i cleaned my throttle body...and now it doesnt hit any lower then 600....ever...

  • My car, when I start it up it will run a pretty low idle, when I push the gas it then goes to a high idle, about 1500 rpm. From the high idle, I take it out of park and to drive, it won't even idle it will just die. Do you think this is my problem?

  • @timmy102345 CHANGE YOUR SPARK PLUGS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES, if they get wet or needs replacing, that's what can happen
