  • Vegetarian's, Vegan's and the like can't talk. Farm land to produce crops for soy or other protein producing vegetables destroy wild habitat and kill various types of animals. PETA pretends this isn't so, and they will ban anyone who mentions it... but I guess they are entitled to their own reality. Zorica... and any other's talking about EUROPEAN BAN etc. The monetary system is an illusion and consumerism is it's result. What these people do in the north to survive is not.

  • people who didnt like the video can bring celery with them when they visit the arctic.

  • @mitomke Mahahaha. See how warm the negative calories keep them.

  • @mitomke

    HAHAHA!!!! best comment today

  • So I just had to sign in just to say this.

That kid should not be smoking thats just stupid.

This is just to prove that some school in Utah is teaching them that we Kill seals by Bashing them and thanks for this video idiots like the teacher in Utah says "they bash baby seals" they don't even research before they teach.

    Pretty stupid tbh.

  • also they can blame the newfoundlanders for the negative image of seal hunting rather than whining about the europeans and their mean old ban.

  • how is their culture being extinguished? they have survived this far without much contact or interaction with the rest of the world, i cant see why they cant still go on as it always was. its the EU's right to ban their products if they see fit to do so and if the inuit dont like it, either find a market who will accept their products or just practice self sufficency. no one can be forced to buy what they dont want.

  • Hee! Hee! I love the kid, cigarette and all. He must think you're an especially crazy qallunaq for going to all this trouble and expense just to watch one of them stalk a seal, rather than going for a trophy caribou or bear for your den.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read somewhere that there's a law that requires the use of dog-schlepping rather than ski-doos when hunting--and it was this that brought sled dogs back from extinction.

  • @pinz2022 Canada requires that for hunting polar bears you need to use sled dogs which provide income for local guides. Also, walrus hunts also require personnel from the local hamlet office.

I have no interest in trophy hunting. I was out there to learn more about the culture and have made a strong friendship that continues with some of the people in these videos. I was more active in the hunt when searching for seals, but to ensure success Joey wanted to trek on foot solo to not alert seal

  • lol

  • hahah i see Billy! lol

  • Shitty city life, all they want to do is take advantage of everything, even things they don't even have to think about. They think they have the power to take control over everything.

  • love seal hunting, keeping the tradition alive, its our only food, food shipped to our community is way too expencive, this is the cheaper way to go. so if u say ban the seal hunting well HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, come eat with me you are all welcome PEACE!!

  • this is a way of living for us alaskan people, this is how we survive. This isn't stupid, how do you think we get most of your food, going shopping at cars or the food market, the wildlife is are food market..

  • I respect these people and their culture. The ban on sealing, was the worst thing that could have been done to the Inuit people. The stupidity of this ban is on the same grounds as if someone banned Japan from fishing tuna. I hope to one day visit Nunavut, and not only record the traditions but also purchase their fur clothing. I hope that this ban is completely obliterated for the sake of this incredibly deep culture.

  • We will make this illegal soon...stupid people...killing seals...

  • How are they stupid? They support their families by hunting seal and other marine mammals. The food shipped to them is overpriced, and a large majority are on welfare, so they rely on their cultural skills of hunting to have food, clothing, tools, and other things made from animals. Lets not forget they have a right to live of their land as they see fit. Who are others to tell them what to eat, when they have no idea how it is to leave there. Opinions without exp. or knowledge, is useless.

  • They do it for food!

Those who do it for sport/fun should be punished.

  • Stupid people killing chickens^^^^you kill chickens to eat and they kill seals, whats your problem?

  • scrzpur...you are a chicken...

First of all...a seal is an animal very simliar to a dog...

    Second, many seals are endangered...

Third, I am against killing...especially an animal that is highly intelligent...and has saved humans from harm...

So put that in your cooter and sit on it...

  • You are incorrect - there is really only one seal species that is endangered. What determines if an animal is highly intelligent? Pigs for example are considered highly intelligent. And last, in what way is a seal very similar to a dog? And what is the point of that statement?

  • @12345678927269 There's 6 million seals in Altantic and Arctic Canada hardly endangered.

  • @12345678927269 also to you third thing. Your thinking of Dolphins. Seals are nothing but fat blobs that we're mean't to be eaten.

  • chickens arent still babies when they kill them..

  • @alesha3008 The seal we hunted in the video was an adult female ringed seal, modern Inuit hunters don't hunt the juveniles as they provide little subsistence. This variety of seal is not endangered and its population has boomed due to recent climate changes in the arctic.

  • would the ban really effect these people?because i cant see any form of police going to look for them on the ice lol.

  • Yes the ban would affect them as far as economic growth is concerned. And is a huge infringement on their culture.

  • @sc4rzpur3 Yes, it destroyed their economy leading to a an unemployment rate far above 50% and a near destruction of their culture. Seals were for trade and for their food/clothes use. Now they hunt to eat and the government gives checks so they don't plunge further into economic ruin.

  • @sc4rzpur3 Haha you're right. There might be a game warrden or 2 but really how many could they get?

  • I'll be heading up to Igloolik this summer for a while. That is where my family is. Can i ask why you went up? Vacation or?

  • this video's is just waste of Electricty lmao

    Billy-rala lol

  • This video is very important in that it shows how Inuit rely on the seal hunt for subsistence. A 2001 memo from the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade recommends that Canada play the Nunavut Inuit card as leverage to open the doors to obtaining a waiver [to the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act] and have the east coast sealers follow.

  • Where is this?

  • Igloolik, Nunavut, Canada

  • its so beautiful up there. thanks for showing this video

    hollyy

  • Glad you enjoyed it Holly :)

  • @bashildy

I get a kick out of the pooches, too. So laid back and blase. Utterly unlike the thin-coated, hyper, Idita-doggies.

  • B-O-R-I-N-G!

  • B-O-R-I-N-G

  • Good. The only people who should be hunting the seals of The Americas; Inuit or Micmac.

  • Why should Inuit and Micmac be allowed to hunt seals and no one else? Are they above the rest of the human race in some way? Or is it that the old "tradition" bullshit? Because I doubt the fucking seal gives a shit what culture gets to slaughter it. I think everyone should have to obey the same laws in a rational world. Especially since it's 2009 and the natives can just as easily buy a can of beef stew from the local grocer...

  • We dont slaughter , the newfies do!

  • Your such a white bitch

  • I know this is from 6 months ago but I thought I'd say something too. You have to understand that there is a really big difference between killed and slaughtered. And very big difference between commercial seal hunt and traditional seal hunt. That's where you don't get things. 2009 excuse?!?! now that's bullshit. Even up to today, we Inuit are still using our traditional knowledge and very lucky to keep it alive since there are many people out there who lost their culture.

  • @Dboz1984 Dude.... You dumbass everything would be flown in. Making it really expensive. A can of pop is 4.99! Now I suggest you keep quiet.

  • How about the same law be applied to everyone in that if everyone were like Inuit and Micmac, then it would be no problem. Hunting seal for subsistence is different than hunting for mass profit.

And although it's (2010) they still rely on hunting to supplement the extremely expensive groceries they buy already. It's hard for them to afford the 'can of beef stew from the local grocer'. And no one is saying that Inuit or Micmac are above anyone else. Even Europeans used to hunt...long ago.

  • I get nervous just watching people walk around on that cracked, swiss cheese ice.

  • its spring and the top of the ice is melting...under that theres 3 feet of solid ice...its very safe to walk on
