@woohoo86754 No, this IS Gamma Ray, paying tribute to the Unleashed in the East version. The version you speak of is on Youtube. Look it up and compare.
HOLY SHITT AMAZING!!! ive always thought that this was a JP live version... hmmm i wouldve never thought it was gamma ray anyways gamma ray, helloween & Judas Priest all fucking rule
This is pretty close to what this song would sound like live if Priest ever performed this song live after Les Binks (the drummer who performed on this song) left the band.
@Bloodchris shut your fucking mouth you little piece of motherfucking shit, halford's voice back in the 70's and 80's has no match in heavy metal, and his song writing gave us a legion of the greatest metal songs in history, ralf is good but he'll never get that far.
@Rafikachimi This is Ralf Scheeper ex frontman of Gamma Ray, now Primal Fear.. this song can be found in A Tribute To Judas Priest, Legends of Metal vol II featuring lots of bands like Stratovarius, Kreator, Angra. Overkill etc...
Of course I accidentally downloaded this cover because it was listed under Judas Priest. Could never find the version on youtube until I saw that it was cover. I actually like this cover better than the original even though priest is amazing.
ok ok so what your saying is this is not priest even though i lived most of my life headbanging to it cause i thought it was priest all this time ok...(EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE!!!!!!) well if it is a cover fucking amazing cover! \m/
@blackvein511 yeah can you believe they picked tim owens over this guy? btw if you like him search "primal fear" its his new band wich he made after not getting into priest.
Ya, I found this track on Limewire 3 years ago labelled Priest and thought it was them. It sounds exactly like them, excellent cover of a fantastic song.
I really dont get the point of a cover if it sounds like the original i mean its cool sure but they should add some originalty to the song i mean if you dont you might as well listen to the original version right?? : P
@blackvein511 Uhm Have you heard the original? They sound completely different... well for a cover. And he really sings like this so it isnt like he tried his hardest to sound like Halford for this one song.
I've never heard this band before, but this cover is fucking AWESOME...if someone made me listen to it, I would've assumed it was Unleashed In The East!

r u Tim's brother or what? Halford in his prime is hands down the greatest metal singer. And let's remember this. It is much easier to copy someone's song than write an original. Halford will neve be topped. The guy was too good. His range was better; meaning all around. KK and Glen need to go back and listen to their older albums.
With all due respect to Judas Priest -which are on of my favorite musicians: this version kills the original in terms of speed and intensity. Not so heavy as the original, but really really great.
Try "Dethrone Tyranny", "Send Me a Sign", "Men, Martians and Machines" and "Hell is Thy Home" if you're looking for Priest-inspired Gamma Ray and work from there. You really can't go wrong with any of Gamma Ray's discography though. Albums "Land of the Free" and "Somewhere Out In Space" are generally regarded as their two most powerful and original works. Good luck!
I would also recommend you "Solid", "The Heart of the Unicorn", "Damn the Machine", "Fire Below" and "Eagle" from the album "No World Order"... And "Condemned to Hell" and "Blood Religion" from the album "Majestic"... I hope you will enjoy !!!

well this singer who makes it sound kinda like priest is ralf sheepers hes in primal fear now which is heavily influenced by priest. he left gamma ray in 95 and kai hansen took over vocals
The full bandwith studio version sounds much better than on youtube, but your assertions are still correct in my opinion. I wish the vox was a little more forward in the mix, with critical frequencies boosted. A slight decrease in tempo would have been beneficial too, but it still kicks ass and shows who indeed is the premier upper octave vocalist in the metal world, not only as a Halford sound-alike but in terms of completeness and technique.
I disagree. It would have been too much like Halford to be a new band; Owens was a great choice simply because he could do the harsh stuff better than Halford ever could. Ralf would have made the "they're just trying to get a Halford clone" argument very justifiable.
Proof: try to find a video of Painkiller live where Halford does a consistently better job than Owens.
All three great singers in their own right, though.
yeah owens gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's the same kind of hate that Dio gets. Although that also might be because the Owens period of Priest is not considered good for its songs, though it's not like Owens was writing them or anything.
@guitartur A Touch of Evil: Live. 2005. Halford massacring Painkiller. Sofia was good, but The Ripper is more consistent. Halford can't do more harsh/extreme vocals like Owens can, and that's perfectly fine with me. I like both on their own merits- Owens is a better singer than Halford is now, but career-wise Halford reigns supreme.
Understandable mistake to claim this is Judas Priest (the vocalist sounds very similar to Rob), but if you check it out, it's definitely not the version from unleashed in the east. Thanks for the upload.
Everyone saying this is Priest and Unleashed In The East are idiots! This is an awesome cover by Gamma Ray with the amazing vocals of Ralf Scheepers! He should have definitely got the job of vocalist over Ripper Owens. Though if that had happened, maybe there's be no Primal Fear, so it all worked out in the end I guess!
@UltraGorillaz It's definitely not Priest. The guy imitates Halford pretty good though, their version of Victim of Changes and Exciter are probably the best Priest covers ever...period. yea man i know its scheepers, i was writing to the comment about hansen. kai is playing guitar and Ralph is on vocals. i have all the Scheepers era albums and most of the hansen ones and i would have to say that the albums with hansen singing are better. Scheepers is an amazing singer and in my opinion would have done better in priest than ripper.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why the fuck is everyone giving metalmilitia1987 and alexpriest69 thumbs down for saying this is better than the priest version, they are right it is far better than the priest version (unless you're talking about the live version which is pretty much on par with this), in fact i normally hate scheepers vocals, but he somehow sings better than halford did on the original studio version.
I really, really like the stuff Gamma Ray put out at that time. "Insanity & Genius" still holds it own as one of the best powermetal albums ever recorded. Having said that, I have to acknowledge that, while a decent cover version, their's is nowhere near as good as the original 'Exciter' by Judas Priest. Priest are legendary, and 'Exciter' is one of their best songs ever written. There's not many bands who can get away with even touching such a gem. So, this is not dissing Gamma Ray.
This has got to be Gamma Ray's best cover with Ralf. He does an awesome job here (something tells he this is what got him to the final 3 spots to succeed Halford in Priest) and Thomas Nack does a great job with the drums. I'd say it's too bad he left Gamma Ray if it weren't that he was suceeded by Dan Zimmerman, one of the most solid but intense and exciting drummers in metal today.
Come on people! If this is Priest then who is singing the backup parts? No one on Priest can sing backup as good as this guy is! This is an excellent cover with an extraordinary singer!
what do you mean who is singing the backup parts? i mean yeah i know it is gamma ray but what are you talking about? isnt that just an overdub? i mean rob in priest did that A LOT (sang his own backups)
What I mean is if people think this is Priest then it must be live because they wouldn't do an almost identical remake in the studio! And if it is live then who is doing the backup vocal parts? I know it's not priest and I know it's not live so I know that it could be a harmonizer and quadruple tracking but a lot of people don't know that! Anyway these guys are incredible wouldn't you say?
the judas priest song is different it starts with a drum thing and this doesn't. If you got the song from limewire it says it is judas priest but it is really gamma ray. the judas priest song is also longer by 35 seconds.
Er. This is Judas Priest here, but Gamma Ray did cover Exciter with Ralf. Halford and Scheepers are very similar in timbre, but like the other guy commented, you can check with other videos on youtube if you don't believe it's Judas Priest.
I don't know how anyone could confuse this with the original. Ralf Scheepers (I originally thought it was Kai Hansen, a listen to later Gamma Ray with Kai on vocals showed that to be untrue) does not sound very much like Halford. He has the same high-pitched singing style, but his accent and pronunciation are completely different, and he has a more "chesty" voice.
Umm, no, this is Gamma Ray playing a Judas Priest song. That singer is Kai Hansen, not Rob Halford. Bands play other bands' songs on occasion, you know.

hansen is soo underated, as a guitarist and a singer!
mickmos 2 years ago
lol its Ralf on the vocal
1NikkisFan 2 years ago
is Ralf not Hansen... Ralf did 3 albums with gamma ray before forming primal fear... shame on you..
mu0325 2 years ago
yea man i know its scheepers, i was writing to the comment about hansen. kai is playing guitar and Ralph is on vocals. i have all the Scheepers era albums and most of the hansen ones and i would have to say that the albums with hansen singing are better. Scheepers is an amazing singer and in my opinion would have done better in priest than ripper.

why the fuck is everyone giving metalmilitia1987 and alexpriest69 thumbs down for saying this is better than the priest version, they are right it is far better than the priest version (unless you're talking about the live version which is pretty much on par with this), in fact i normally hate scheepers vocals, but he somehow sings better than halford did on the original studio version.

Priest version is better but this version is pretty good.

Anyone who does a cover of Priest are also Gods.

wow he really sounds like halford

Not bad But Priest Still beats this

This has got to be Gamma Ray's best cover with Ralf. He does an awesome job here (something tells he this is what got him to the final 3 spots to succeed Halford in Priest) and Thomas Nack does a great job with the drums. I'd say it's too bad he left Gamma Ray if it weren't that he was suceeded by Dan Zimmerman, one of the most solid but intense and exciting drummers in metal today.

this version is incredible, is better than the original. Ralf Scheepers is a vocal amazing.

Wow this is waay better than the judas priest version

Come on people! If this is Priest then who is singing the backup parts? No one on Priest can sing backup as good as this guy is! This is an excellent cover with an extraordinary singer!
rickyon 3 years ago 4
what do you mean who is singing the backup parts? i mean yeah i know it is gamma ray but what are you talking about? isnt that just an overdub? i mean rob in priest did that A LOT (sang his own backups)
theZodiacDigital 2 years ago
What I mean is if people think this is Priest then it must be live because they wouldn't do an almost identical remake in the studio! And if it is live then who is doing the backup vocal parts? I know it's not priest and I know it's not live so I know that it could be a harmonizer and quadruple tracking but a lot of people don't know that! Anyway these guys are incredible wouldn't you say?
rickyon 2 years ago
im assuming people who think this is priest have never heard the original version and think this is it.
theZodiacDigital 2 years ago
Why would they think this is the original when it's from a band called Gamma Ray and on an album entitled Insanity and Genius?????
rickyon 2 years ago
i really have no idea, but thats what i think is going on.

search for the song judas priest exciter and it is different
Lumberjack4591 3 years ago 2
the judas priest song is different it starts with a drum thing and this doesn't. If you got the song from limewire it says it is judas priest but it is really gamma ray. the judas priest song is also longer by 35 seconds.
Lumberjack4591 3 years ago
nope this is judas priest i h ave this and studio and i trried to get the gamma ray cover and it sounds excactly the same
ElectricEye66 3 years ago
awesome fucking cover!!!!
rawrr5 3 years ago
Er. This is Judas Priest here, but Gamma Ray did cover Exciter with Ralf. Halford and Scheepers are very similar in timbre, but like the other guy commented, you can check with other videos on youtube if you don't believe it's Judas Priest.

This is Gamma Ray!
lt53666 3 years ago 3
I don't know how anyone could confuse this with the original. Ralf Scheepers (I originally thought it was Kai Hansen, a listen to later Gamma Ray with Kai on vocals showed that to be untrue) does not sound very much like Halford. He has the same high-pitched singing style, but his accent and pronunciation are completely different, and he has a more "chesty" voice.
tankermottind 3 years ago 3
The singer is Ralf Scheepers who sang on this one before he left Gamma Ray in 1994.

i personnaly like it better than the original

this isnt judas priest, but it is a cover of judas priests song Exciter
UltraGorillaz 3 years ago 10
yes it is Judas Priest. Chech your self and hear that it is the same as priest
vacx2 3 years ago
Umm, no, this is Gamma Ray playing a Judas Priest song. That singer is Kai Hansen, not Rob Halford. Bands play other bands' songs on occasion, you know.
tankermottind 3 years ago
That is Rob singing. If its not then it sounds very like him!
Judaspriest1992 3 years ago
This is not Rob singing.

yeah, He is Ralf Scheepers! He can sing pratically like Halford.
