Did you know that a lot of people call Elk Falls a holly pace? Yep this is where the spirits come to give visions in vision quests for the new age type :) Did a vision quest once it was with the help of a certain fungus though - profound thing that...
Actually she was driving and I don't remember if I asked her to turn off the highway or she just did it and I wanted to press on... Either way, Cindy is a very good woman who even likes shooting videos but she's not too big on editing them :)
We enjoyed our drive through the Olympic Peninsula last Spring... I don't think we have any elk on the island. If there ever were any they were probably eaten by cougars and the cougars were all killed by boys with guns...
Most of the day was spent driving on our way from Strathcona Park back down to Victoria where we live... This little stop was for stretching our legs for about an hour... The whole two day trip happened just because I wanted to go and visit Tahsis :)
It's always looking to find a balance... Forest fires are natural and good for returning nutrients back into the soil... It's just that some stubborn trees survive them :)
There was a much bigger tree that had more of its core burned out located at the Maple Grove campground... Sadly, all that's left is a stump... Now I wonder if it's the same big fire that did all this damage while burning away most of the forest on the island a few hundred years ago...

I think that would explain why its the bigger trees that get hit...
Is there an expert out there?

I think that the trees were struck by lightning, that is what burt them out..
Great movie, I see the same kind of scenery but never stop to get a good shot of the beauty...

That would be a lot of lightning if each tree was struck individually...

That is a very beautiful place. Those trees are tough.

They definitely are resilient...

That would explain those two natives who were going to the pools above the falls to have a cleanse...

I thought those Maple leaves near the falls were very pretty.

Very much so... They make a nice contrast with the rock...

The walk-in tree reminds me of the one in my driveway, only the outside third of it remains.
Love the falls!

It also reminds me of the drive-thru tree in the redwood forest of NoCal...

We were pretty far up that time... I will have to spend more time up that way and be very quiet :)

Look at the ground and it will tell you...

There's probably a metaphor for life in those partially burned out trees.
Diggin' the trail. And what a view.

Trees are far superior to people because people simply would not survive getting their cores burned out...
There's more of those waters on the way... There's quite a system of pools and streams above the falls.

Isn't it amazing how nature destroys and rebuilds itself?

In view of your previous titles, I was expecting to see wood here.. and all you show us are some trees.. :) :)

I will have to work harder at coming up with accurate titles :P

That is most unusual that those trees are still alive.
Beautiful place! ;)
