I have never replced my primary. If you rebuild the motor check the condition of the chain. If you need a replacment you have 2 options find a good used maico primary chain or use a Mercedes Benz Timing chain. Mercedes metric fit maico components.
Yes, I've got a new one. I've got a whole new clutch basket and crankshaft year, none of these componets were even correct for the bike and the chain was so loose it was wearing in the cases. I was just wondering in general how often you were replacing it. According to many people on Maicos, they say check it often and replace it probably every 30 hours or so since after it wears down it can break the cases. Replace once it has about an inch of play.
Maico is made in germany, altough the company went bankrupt a few years ago, a group of people with love for the brand bought up the name and they are making them now in Holland. It's a beast of a bike to ride. The Japs cannot stand next to them
You are right Brian! this (Maisch Company) (MAICO) bikes was in the '70 a succesful MX bike, robust and powerfull engine. I have owned in the earlie '80 a 490 Endurance.
Not interested in trading, I plan on holding onto my vintage dirt bikes. This is a dieing breed of machines. You may want to check ebay just type in Maico and there is always at least 2 or 3.
Nice Maico - 1982 being the first year of the single shock rear end - not a bad bike once the rear end is sorted out - contact Maico Only if you need parts or assistance.
No offense... But nobody likes videos like this, and they really really ruin the YouTube experience IMO. At least start the bike... 6 months is nothing, pour gas in it and fire it up. I just started an 81 CR125 today that hadn't run since about 1990. Anyways, nice bike... Even though you don't really show it off, which is what we all want to see.
no...the 490 and 501 were beasts

"a few years ago they went bankrupt" == 1983
"for the love of the brand revived" == They have been revived over and over again for the past 20 years.
"They are made in holland" == You are talking about 10 year old information. They are back in Germany now.
They even made a production 700 cc 2 stroke engine a few years back, ATK even used this motor to bring out the ATK 700 Intimidator
Anyway I checked on a price of a 2008 Maico 500 MX in US they are around 9000

Hey, You interested in a modern bike trade? I've got an '02 KTM 200 I'd consider trading for a clean, well maintained Maico.
