I have the same item. Because the switch is such a pain in the ass, I leave it turned on all the time, and just remove one of the three batteries. You can leave the cover off the whole time, also.

oh when ur phone is plugged in ur computer, pull down the notification menu n u should see the "USB connected" tap on that then "Mount". On your PC, just drag your song onto the "Music" folder in the the microSD card(if dont see "music" folder, make a new folder and name it "music". How many GB is your card?
