Pete Shelly (& the Bzks) channelling Brian Connolly (& The Sweet). Am I right or am I wrong? It's the leathers that give it away. ;) Man, I love this song.
I've never seen this before, was only aware of their TOTP performance of this in the now infamous episode when Pete took about 8 pounds worth of bank notes and fashioned a pocket kerchief from it and stuck in conspicuously in his jacket's top pocket and wore it throughout the performance. It had the press all enraged the following day, with accusations made by the music press that the band were "flaunting that they had ALOT of money",lol. GREAT band who never fail to deliver first rate music!
what a tune. although when i first heard it years ago i misheard the lyrics as "everybody's happy now i'm dead" which gave it a bit of a different slant : )
Beebfader and Keithstah top candidates for peace-punks of the week !
I too love the Buzzcocks and The Clash. Two different styles.
Two different kinds of smiles. no need to compare. So I will :)
Songs such as 'Hollow Inside' or 'Money' by Buzzcocks lyrically worthy of Joy Division. The Clash's 'Sandinista' and 'Combat Rock' display their sense of fun more...
I too thought the Clash were ugly, joyless, posturing dicks. So many people fell for it. Buzzcocks just wrote great songs and played them fabulously well. The Clash never put a smile on anyone's face.
@beebfader : Are you kidding me ? Go listen to Police & Thieves. If that song doesn't put a smile on your face then I don't know what you want in your music. The Clash & Buzzcocks were on different paths. People didn't fall for it. It has to do with a different passion that they had towards their audience, & involvement with the world. Buzzcocks are amazing, timeless. The Clash is as well. It doesn't have to be a comparison. Love music. Love what it was & what it meant for different people.
@keithstah Such a well argued point that it puts me to shame. Thanks for not resorting to abuse when I possibly deserved it. You are right of course, that really is my wide view on music too. I don't quite see how `Police and Thieves' could put a smile on your face, but I do understand that it does. It was a cheap shot and I am better than that. Peace !
There's no one like the Buzzcocks!!!!!!!
