I just started a few years ago with alot more technology in safety and I'm thankful for how safe I feel in the car and

I like seeing close racing, I like seeing all the drivers walk away year after year. I respect everything that went on in the 70s and 80s, but I don't think we should go back to that. Darlington, next week those cars are going to be going 170+ at that track, when they built it they never expected speeds above 130 or so. And I believe that you will get more drama from having finishes of under 1 second than having drivers like Cale win at Bristol by over a lap. You can't say that Talladega wasn't dramatic, 4 wide at the line with 0.002 margin of victory? You can't say Harvick's last lap pass on Johnson at Autoclub wasn't dramatic, and that Baynes Daytona 500 upset wasn't drama.

Now now, Tony. I don't care for the Champions provisional my self either. And no disrespecting the man. And I may be mistaken, ( Nahh. Not ME! LOL ) but it was originally IMHO. The Petty provisional. He hung on too long past his prime. The last few years or so it might become known as the Terry Labonte Provisional. So remember when you are past "your Prime," You might use it also . Racing is one of the hardest things to give up. I know I couldn't and it cost me my marriage.

I remember watching this interview, and I will *NEVER* forget the look on Darrell's face when Tony said that. They way his stupid smirk disappeared, then he dropped his head for a second... I feel where Tony is coming from but that was a low blow to slam Daryl about the provisional grids. Commentators in all action sports play to the fans and hype the drama, it is part of what makes a broadcast exciting, hell, the WWF has created an entire SPORT out of hype, it's part of the business and I think these guys (Daryl, Larry, and Mike) are the best IN the business. Just my opinion.

The level of competition from 1999 to present is far greater than what it was during the late 70's to mid 80's. Notice all dominant drivers back then had factory support & big sponsors, thus giving them cars that were far beyond what the competition had.

I'm young, I wont lie I'm 22 and I've been around racing in one form or another since I was 5. My dad was racing in the mid 90s and there quite a few injuries even at the local level. I just started a few years ago with alot more technology in safety and I'm thankful for how safe I feel in the car and

how competitive the racing I watch on TV is. We live in a time where 4 seconds is considered a dominant victory. In the 70s 4 seconds was considered close. I like seeing close racing, I like seeing all the drivers walk away year after year. I respect everything that went on in the 70s and 80s, but I don't think we should go back to that. We should keep moving forward. Plus, we're in the 2000s and you think it was better in the 80s. But I'll bet everything I own that in the 80s they wanted th 60s

@weaverracing96 yeah I know. There's only been about 55-60 deaths in NASCAR and that aint bad. No matter how safe you try and make the cars people are going to die. Just like Football players will always run the risk of never walking off a field again. Comes with the territory. In both sports the urge to make it totally safe (which is unrealistic) is just watering the competition and fun for the fans down. Call it what you want but that's a fact. Fans want wrecks, speed and drama. Not bump draft

And I know the sport will never be totally safe, but that doesn't mean that the engineers should stop trying to make it so and just 'give up' on constantly developing the seat and restraint technology, the roll cage and energy mitigation technology and such. Look at how much the speeds have increased since the 80s, and I know they are a bit slower at the super speedways, but look at

Darlington, next week those cars are going to be going 170+ at that track, when they built it they never expected speeds above 130 or so. And I believe that you will get more drama from having finishes of under 1 second than having drivers like Cale win at Bristol by over a lap. You can't say that Talladega wasn't dramatic, 4 wide at the line with 0.002 margin of victory? You can't say Harvick's last lap pass on Johnson at Autoclub wasn't dramatic, and that Baynes Daytona 500 upset wasn't drama.
