I have to disagree with the psychologist when she stated that if children continue to breast feed while attending school, they will be picked on. So once again it is the victim's fault for being victimized! I think she should spend more time analyzing why children bully rather than judging mom's on wanting to care for their children. Cows milk is there for us humnas to drink and benefit from, we dont directly suck from the cows as in the case of the nearly pre-teens & their mums. I support these mothers %100. They have done the research. Just because western society has moved away from continued breastfeeding doesn't mean it is wrong. It is the norm in many places around the world. I breast fed my son umtil he was 18 mths and got negative reactions from people. I intend to breast feed my 2nd child until at least 2 years and beyond if he wants to.

well, no because the immune system of an 8 year old has already fully deveolped. and yes, i can compare a banana to breastmilk. why?? the answer is all to obvious: a) both are food, and b) both are nutritious, except that the breastmilk has the nutrition of a banana and soooo much more. breastmilk is a superfood, and, regardless of the taboos of OUR culture, i would want to give my child that very much needed nourishment.

I never said that if a child asks for food then they shouldn't get any. I was referring to a situation where breastfeeding comes in. There is a cut-off point for being breast-fed and my personal belief is that it is a bit before 8 or 9.
If you dopes actually researched it you would realize that breast milk is 100 times better for a child. Formula is full of fillers and perservatives that a child should not ingest and if it isn't given properly a child can become very sick. A child can drink as much breast milk as they want or is available. As for cows milk no human can digest the carcegins in the milk. That is why doctors tell you not to give it to your child until they are about 1year old because it causes stomach bleeding!

milk teeth are the teeth that some children are born with, abby teeth usually start to come in after 4-5mos, and 'adult' teeth come in sometimes as early as 6.

of course it is sexual, simply because the breast is a sex organ (secondary sex organ). but it is not sexual in a romantic or perverted way. breasts are not only a means of nourishment, but it also offers a child warmth, comfort, and security. children are often allowed to "suckle" even when the breast no longer produces milk. this is not dirty at all.

I think it can be done in a way thats not pyschologically harmful. People who make a big deal out of it either for or against it- would be an example. Another thing that we do need to consider is that human babies to take a long time to mature and for immune systems to develop resliency in comparison with other mammals. I personally wouldnt want to breast feed an 8 year old,but I think it depends on the circumstance and we should not judge based on taboo- but whats best for the kids

Even the formula companies know and have to advertise that breastmilk is best. Studies show that weaning milk is higher in immune materials the milk mothers produce for exclusively bf children. This is true even if the child is 5 or 6 years old.

I breastfed both my children untill they're third birthdays. It is a neccessary thing for babies and a healthy supplement to any TODDLERS diet. And I believe that continuing into older childhood is more about the mother's need than the child's.

That may be so, but that's what a breast pump is for. The children can still get the health benefits of breast milk if the milk is pumped and put in a bottle or sippy cup (it's really no different than a water bottle in my opinion), and then you won't have to deal with the awkward effects that suckling a mother's breast at age six can have on a child.
Then, why don't they use a pump for cow's milk to feed baby cows? Actually, I have seen videos (not sure if it's YouTube) where one can feed a calf milk from a bottle. But, as far as nature is concerned, mammals are meant to nurse their offspring. Why should human be any different than other mammals? I should have been born a monkey. Then, I could be naked and breastfeed for as long as I want without people criticizing me.
Actually, pumping is not the same as breastfeeding. Babies who are sick can transfer then infection to their mother's breasts, which in turn make specific antibodies for the child. Also, babies who are suckled at the breast have a lower chance of asthma compared to babies who eat expressed breast milk from a bottle.
Another thing you need to understand is children who are nursing at older ages aren't doing it as often as newborns, only once or twice a day. So it's not an "awkward" situation.

I am a Physician and have no idea where you got this information. A mothers immunity does pass somewhat thru breastmilk to the infant, but only until a child reaches age two at most.

I had a friend who tried that "let the kid decide the right time" mentality with her son's potty training. He ended up starting school a year late - he was almost six and still in diapers. She had a miserable time with full on knock-down drag-outs to train him at that late stage. God knows how the impact on the kid's psyche will play out.

Children need to learn to be independant, and there is a reason to brestfeed: when children can't eat solid foods. When children can handle solid foods, they should be weaned. I'm a BIG breastfeeding supporter, but I can't tell who is enjoying the breastfeeding more the kids or the moms. I have heard that breastfeeding creates dopamine in the brain. Maybe this is an addiction. I think weaning age should be before preschool. When you drop your kids off at Daycare they need to be able to comfort themselves. I think some children would be just as happy to suck on some other woman's breast!

yet, people are always saying "remember to drink your milk." then they show PASTEURIZED (loss of nutrients) COW'S (obviously for a 1300 lb, 4-stomach-having beast) MILK. so, if children still need milk, then give it to them. and what better way than to give it to them straight from the source, which keeps the milk at the right temperature and full of valuable immune building nutrients?

Cows milk is there for us humnas to drink and benefit from, we dont directly suck from the cows as in the case of the nearly pre-teens & their mums. Its not just about human milk Vs cow milk, its the fact that these kids are sucking from their moms when they are fully aware and have a sense of nudity- thats what makes it unnatural & disgusting. Im sure its unhealthy for the childs social development too, imagine always running after mum for a feed lol.. nasty!

I support these mothers %100. They have done the research. Just because western society has moved away from continued breastfeeding doesn't mean it is wrong. It is the norm in many places around the world. I breast fed my son umtil he was 18 mths and got negative reactions from people. I intend to breast feed my 2nd child until at least 2 years and beyond if he wants to.

well, no because the immune system of an 8 year old has already fully deveolped. and yes, i can compare a banana to breastmilk. why?? the answer is all to obvious: a) both are food, and b) both are nutritious, except that the breastmilk has the nutrition of a banana and soooo much more. breastmilk is a superfood, and, regardless of the taboos of OUR culture, i would want to give my child that very much needed nourishment.

I never said that if a child asks for food then they shouldn't get any. I was referring to a situation where breastfeeding comes in. There is a cut-off point for being breast-fed and my personal belief is that it is a bit before 8 or 9.

If you dopes actually researched it you would realize that breast milk is 100 times better for a child. Formula is full of fillers and perservatives that a child should not ingest and if it isn't given properly a child can become very sick. A child can drink as much breast milk as they want or is available. As for cows milk no human can digest the carcegins in the milk. That is why doctors tell you not to give it to your child until they are about 1year old because it causes stomach bleeding!

milk teeth are the teeth that some children are born with, abby teeth usually start to come in after 4-5mos, and 'adult' teeth come in sometimes as early as 6.
now as far as an 8 yr old, she has a few adult teeth by now and therefore neither term milk or baby could be applied to her teeth.

of course it is sexual, simply because the breast is a sex organ (secondary sex organ). but it is not sexual in a romantic or perverted way. breasts are not only a means of nourishment, but it also offers a child warmth, comfort, and security. children are often allowed to "suckle" even when the breast no longer produces milk. this is not dirty at all.

there were a lot of brave women breast feeding older kids. one woman was feeding a younger kid and n older kid. at a restaurant a young waitress was serving coffee and squeezing her breasts in to the cups at thye table. she was not squeezing her nipples. she was squeezing her breasts and the milk wasc oming out in streams when she did it. The restaurant must have lots of coffee customers.

I think it can be done in a way thats not pyschologically harmful. People who make a big deal out of it either for or against it- would be an example. Another thing that we do need to consider is that human babies to take a long time to mature and for immune systems to develop resliency in comparison with other mammals. I personally wouldnt want to breast feed an 8 year old,but I think it depends on the circumstance and we should not judge based on taboo- but whats best for the kids

Even the formula companies know and have to advertise that breastmilk is best. Studies show that weaning milk is higher in immune materials the milk mothers produce for exclusively bf children. This is true even if the child is 5 or 6 years old.

I breastfed both my children untill they're third birthdays. It is a neccessary thing for babies and a healthy supplement to any TODDLERS diet. And I believe that continuing into older childhood is more about the mother's need than the child's.

So i noticed the references to cows breastfeeding their young, and i think it's quite funny as well as irrelevant to the subject matter because of the fact that cows STOP nursing their calves at 7 months! Which completely discredits any argument or point the mothers are trying to make On the other hand, primates nurse for up to 6 years, but then leave their offspring shortly after. That may be so, but that's what a breast pump is for. The children can still get the health benefits of breast milk if the milk is pumped and put in a bottle or sippy cup (it's really no different than a water bottle in my opinion), and then you won't have to deal with the awkward effects that suckling a mother's breast at age six can have on a child.

Then, why don't they use a pump for cow's milk to feed baby cows? Actually, I have seen videos (not sure if it's YouTube) where one can feed a calf milk from a bottle. But, as far as nature is concerned, mammals are meant to nurse their offspring. Why should human be any different than other mammals? I should have been born a monkey. Actually, pumping is not the same as breastfeeding. Babies who are sick can transfer then infection to their mother's breasts, which in turn make specific antibodies for the child. Also, babies who are suckled at the breast have a lower chance of asthma compared to babies who eat expressed breast milk from a bottle.
Another thing you need to understand is children who are nursing at older ages aren't doing it as often as newborns, only once or twice a day. So it's not an "awkward" situation.

The main thing to remember is that nature dictates when any particular child will stop breast feeding.
We can use our brains all we want to come to logical conclusions about why it's wrong, but the bottom line is there are things our brains don't understand. This is a natural process, and shold be dictated by instinct, not logic!

I had a friend who tried that "let the kid decide the right time" mentality with her son's potty training. He ended up starting school a year late - he was almost six and still in diapers. She had a miserable time with full on knock-down drag-outs to train him at that late stage. God knows how the impact on the kid's psyche will play out.

People say that breastfeeding increses IQ, but simple tests show that by doing math games, an entire class's IQ was boosted 20 points in 2 weeks. Children need to learn to be independant, and there is a reason to brestfeed: when children can't eat solid foods. When children can handle solid foods, they should be weaned. JUST LIKE COWS, DOGS, CATS, AND EVERY OTHER MAMMAL.

It's sad that people always try to cast suspicion on the mother for this.Both enjoy it,the benefits don't end at an arbitrary age for the child.A child that is secure in their attachment in their mother is probably more resilient than a child who isn't!Keep in mind that stories about children who nurse until 5-8 are the exception rather than the rule.Who is this harming? Its so funny when people refer to breastfeeding moms as perverted. When breasts are shown as sex objects to sell consumer goods they are not perverted but using your breasts for their INTENDED PURPOSE is considered perverted, go figure!!!
I grew up in a culture where it is perfectly normal and natural to breastfeed. As a young child i saw my moms friends breastfeeding their children (some older) it was not strange to me and i did not grow up to be a sexual deviant.

For the child, breast feeding is a very enjoyable experience, it releases dopamine and it is pleasurable. It is retarded for that dykey looking lady to allow her 6 year old to decide whenn to stop breast feeding on her own, it would be like allowing a burnout to attempt to quit on his own. bottom line, breat feeding older toddlers is completely fucked up, and parents who do it are fucking up their childrens chances at being normal.

I'm a BIG breastfeeding supporter, but I can't tell who is enjoying the breastfeeding more the kids or the moms. I have heard that breastfeeding creates dopamine in the brain. Maybe this is an addiction. I think weaning age should be before preschool. When you drop your kids off at Daycare they need to be able to comfort themselves. I think some children would be just as happy to suck on some other woman's breast!

my son lost intrest when he was around 2 years and 3 months... so weaning wasnt an issue for me. but i feel that if you dont make it available to the baby as much they will 4get about it... i dont think anythings wrong with it but everyone i know thought i was wrong for letting my son nurse past a year. noone thats never had a child has a right to make an opnion.. they could never understand.. i support it completly as long as the child knows theres a time & place...

i stopped bf her @ 13 mos. not cuz i didn't luv her,...but cuz i DO luv her. i'd like my child and i 2 have a bond great enough that she can trust me and come 2 me in life if she needs to. ..but i also need her 2 b an independent being. confidence building and relationship building is great! but ppl need to be independent in the world, 2!i made the right choice cuz now shes 2 yrs and i have had no sleep battles, shes well-rounded, artistic, smart, funny, and open-minded. bf is good.. 2 a point!

i bf my daughter til she was 13 mos old, and it was so-so for me. I loved bf, as did she, but the part that was unenjoyable was the fact that I hid it from every1. I "stopped" bf her at 3 mos old cuz every1 around me felt it unacceptable. My only regret is hiding it! I started her on cow's milk at 11 mos, and started the weaning at the same time. I think bf builds confidence for both mom & baby, and it also has lots of nutritional value for baby..... (to be cont'd)
