  • I just found the album Sitting Sons, which this tune is on, in my dads recordcollection and I love it :D

  • another stroke of genius, this band were the best of their day

  • The man is simply a poet, his lyrics are still relative today.

  • i just wana start a riot wen i blast this

  • This song used to send me shivers down the spine... i never wanted to become an grown up!!!

  • After the bass line opening I keep expecting to hear the shaa--a-a-shing of acoustic guitars as in Love Will Tear Us Apart Again. Seems possibly lifted-ish, no?

  • This song is so fucking amazing!

  • just spent the last hour listening to songs of my youth, The Jam take straight back, it still get me quite emotional. why oh why is there nothing like this today?

  • dont like paul wellers stuff now he once stood for revolution now its just commercial same old same old that was fresh and revolution never happened the middle aged ppl like me have to be responsible for the mundane that we have .....down with big brother

  • @chanc8r38 have you heard Wake Up The Nation?

  • @trumbellst cant say i have

  • this was the best band better than the crap that is out now they sang about the way people where feeling and how life was and the modfather is still going strong best years of my life with this music

  • Sheer class!!! The Jam shit on bands nowadays!!!

  • Been a while since i listened to the album. S'all coming back....

    Fucking amazing album!!

  • there the fuckin best man forever !!

  • what a song!

  • what amazes me is this song could have been written now, do not let Cameron anywhere near No10, to many memories of Thatcher!!

  • This song is the highlight of the Setting Sons LP.

Weller rightly described it as "wicked" in an interview with Uncut a few years ago.

  • fuckin class !

  • on the occasions he lies upon you think of nothing but private hell....lol nice!

The morning does indeed slip away in a valium haze tho.....great tune.

  • I was a teenager growing up to this in England now I am living my own Private Hell in America!!

    STOP the WAR!

    STOP the HATE!

    Peace and Love mate.

  • I loved the Jams version of heatwave. Pure fookin class.

  • totally agree with you, setting sons stood out amongst the rest.a fantastic tune.wellerite telford.

  • damn so depressing, but awesome song

  • @Garnettoi71 Depressing? This is cheerful music, if you compare...

  • grandissima canzone

  • private hell!

  • it was setting sons. the best track was smithers-jones

  • "Setting Suns" is the best Jam LP in my opinion. Fantastic observation on post 2 nd World War middle class! bla bla!

  • Probably the best and most under-rated Jam song ever, lyrically fantastic, musically haunting, an absolute cracker

  • agreed

  • THE best song, off THE best album.

  • The Jam ROCK!!! This song is one of their best, i was thinking it would be good in a murder scene in a film. LOL

  • That's actually a very good idea.

  • for a teenage lad to write such conscious lyrics about life and how he sees people wane into mundane lifestyles, what great vision and imagery,he was always gonna be a star writingsuch fantastic lyrics, tracks like this arewhat the jam where really all about, forget your start and the more commercial ones, these tracks give a better insight into how weller seen the world through them teenage eyes! hes a true legend in every sense of the word!!

  • Love this, brings back lots of memories.

    All fuck ace.

  • One of the best Jam songs ever off the best jam album perhaps.... Bruce foxton is the Man!

  • He's a fucking cock that's what he is. He didn't write this song.

  • hi, i didnt say that he wrote the song!!

i dont know him personally but you must if you know him well enough to have a go at him like that!

Bruce foxton is a fantastic bass player, and if you know anyting about the jam you will know he was a BIG Big part of their sound. his playing in private hell is coooool! Regards A Proper Jam Fan

  • totally agree toni

  • I know tons about The Jam. I saw them live, and by The Jam, I mean The Jam and not Fraud The Jam. Crock of shit they are.

  • Awesome.

  • great song, The Jam are ace =]

  • I don't need a video... sound is more important to me.

  • Thank you. Atleast someone agrees.

  • yeah great song but would be better with a vid.

  • one of my top 5 faves of all time, but... where's the video?

  • It doesn't need a video. The software I had at the time doesn't allow to create a proper video for it. The song is more important.
