Jep, thanks i found this on WIKI "This is basically a joke for someone who spends all of their time staring at a computer, made by people who spend all of their time staring at a computer. It's possible to read deeper meanings into it, but it sort of defeats the purpose because in the end it's just this hypnotic clip of animation."
The song takes the point of view of a young man. He wants to dance with Ieva (Eva or Eeva in Savo) but her mother won't let him. They sneak away to someone else's house where everyone is dancing to a polka, and dance all night. When he follows her home, her angry mother is waiting for them, but he tells her straight out that Ieva and he will be together no matter what.
it's not a big deal to sing this song to a finnish person... and i bet she's finnish or finnishswedish, because she has no mistakes in her pronounciation..
i'm halffinnsish and halfswedish. i don't speak finnish anymore, i forgot the language as i grew up but i guess it's easier for me, than for others, to learn and i still remember the pronunciations.
I am Swedish only. Both my girlfriend and I have learnt this song, just because it's such an awesome song... =)
Finnish has the nice property of being pronounced exactly the way it is written, and has basically the same sounds as Swedish. Mimicking it isn't all that hard for us. I tried singing "Dirlandaa" to two Finnish girls once, and they told me my pronounciation was perfect! I still haven't tried singing "Ievan polkka" to anyone yet, though...
"Loituma Girl (also known as Leekspin) is a Flash animation set to a gibberish section of the traditional Finnish folk song "Ievan Polkka" (sometimes misspelled Levan Polka) sung by the Finnish quartet Loituma.
The cartoon consists of a 4-frame animation of the Bleach anime character Orihime Inoue twirling a leek to a 27-second loop from the song. Like many other such cartoons, the animation loops continuously."
That's a really beautiful song! I like the rhythm.
But I see here on YouTube a lot of videos with this song that are imitating some sort of dance where everybody is moving all around. Does this dance even exist?
if you search for "polka dance" here on you tube most of the dances you'll see on the videos is the real polka dance. you can dance it in a circle with many others or just you and a partner.
"Loituma Girl (also known as Leekspin) is a Flash animation set to a gibberish section of the traditional Finnish folk song "Ievan Polkka" (sometimes misspelled Levan Polka) sung by the Finnish quartet Loituma.

You do understand this is a woman, yes? In response to your question, I don't honestly know what the connection to the Leek-spinning girl is (I think it's from Bleach? I dunno.)
Yeah, it's a scene from Bleach after Orihime apparently gets hit by a car and Rukia asks her if she just came back from the shop. She spins the leek while she's happily expressing that her food (leeks, butter, bananas, and bean jelly) weren't damaged.
The connection was that someone decided to do a loop of the spinning leek with some lyrics from Loituma's version of Ievan Polkka.

7 von 9 (bekannten) Strophen.
Die ''Rimpa diralla ribi dalli ''
und die ''Rak zuki za ja ribi da''
hat sie weggelassen.
Sind schöne und komplizierte Lautmalereien.
Das weglassen macht nichts.
Not the 5t and the 6t section of 9 known.
They are only voice colour with a flying tounge.
But very fine.
I'll hear you when I need good dreams going to bed

"Loituma Girl (also known as Leekspin) is a Flash animation set to a gibberish section of the traditional Finnish folk song "Ievan Polkka" (sometimes misspelled Levan Polka) sung by the Finnish quartet Loituma.
The cartoon consists of a 4-frame animation of the Bleach anime character Orihime Inoue twirling a leek to a 27-second loop from the song. Like many other such cartoons, the animation loops continuously."

i'm halfswedish and halffinish but i no longer speak finish, i knew it as i child but as i grew older and never used the language i forgot it.
so the funny thing is that when i learned the song i had no idea what i was singing until i asked my mother to translate.
but i guess i still know how to pronouce correctly and i probably could learn finish quickly again if i wanted to.
and i also love leek!
