FFVII had the one of the best put together storylines and music, FFVIII had the best romantic storyline, and FFX is the best because all of that is put into it.

@darth612 Every Final Fantasy game is different, I think going MMORPG is a good decision, in fact I hope in the future we see a FF that's RTS, a FF that's FPS, a FF that has a good sports engine etc.

Ughh... coupled with cliche characters and absurd plots often overburdened with their own inner contradictions is why I can never get into newer Final Fantasy games even though I love the sound tracks of most of them, especially X and X-2's.
A lot of people I've found who really enjoy most modern JRPG games are those who've never put much work into reading actual literature or learning what really gives a character depth. I guess Persona is the exception to that rule, but oh well.
@versiononedotzero I half agree. I think 12 was pretty awesome as well though, however the character development was lacking - I never ended up feeling attached to any of them like I did in previous FFs, which is where the 50% agreement comes from - that is an essential part of FF. Its a shame because I think the FF12 setting could have really been incredible with a little better writing.
@Bidon45 What makes final fantasy without the writing? strip away the graphics, music, mechanics, everything and you're left with a gripping story. the story has always been what makes final fantasy so special to me. Without that you've got another ordinary game. I played 12 and can't remember any of the characters names.
@versiononedotzero exactly, 12 was lifeless. 13 is worse. But u should try giving Lost Odyssey a try, whenever u can. The overall plot may be ok ( still better than 12 and 13 ) but its the 1000 years of Dreams, the short stories inside the game which makes it amazing. Just like the good FFs The stories of LO stayed with me for years.
@versiononedotzero This isn't a requiem to the end of Final Fantasy...the music done by this computer is still working on new Final Fantasy games. Sure Final Fantasy games arn't what they used to be but things change.
@roshidon I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a "computer"? The music was composed by Nobuo Uematsu and two others for FFX .
Uematsu left shortly after Squaresoft merged with Enix. I can't see FF ever going back to its' roots, they've taken a completely new direction now, it used to be about making excellent games, concentrate on doing that and the games would sell themselves. Now its about guessing what the consumer wants and appealing to pop culture.
