I've had mine for a few years now and the display stand on mine is already cracking so I can't display it with the saucer attached since it will be front heavy.. That's probably the reason why its cracking since it has always been on display untouched with the saucer. I guess it could not support the weight. Then only a few days ago, I noticed the crack at the top part where it attaches into the ship. Very disappointed with the quality of the display stand.
Mine is sitting quite comfortably on the shelf right now, no problems with the stand. Yeah, the stand is crap quality, but it's good enough... until it breaks.
I hear you can write DST and get a replacement stand for free. Don't quote me on that.
@EVAUnit4A Mine has always been left untouched on my shelve. It slowly begun to crack. I decided to look at the model when I saw the model tilted unusually forward, thats when I checked it and saw the crack. The crack became worse when I attached the model back, so now i can't display it with the saucer attached. I hope i can get a replacement stand. The same has happened for my classic TOS 1701. They shd have used the ball jointed stand like they did for the Ent-E & 1701 Wrath of Khan.
What? It IS true! There are many sites out there with pictures of the 4-, 6-, and 8-foot filming models, and all of them have it. Ex Astris Scientia is a good place to start.
They shoulda put them all into a traveling museum exhibit. Now they'll be lost into some random private collector's gallery never to be seen or heard of again until decades from now when they get sold off as junk by their great-grandkids...

Oh, and by the way, about the Constitution-class Saucer Separating, recently, there was a story in the 2nd or 3rd issue of the TOS manga by Tokyopop where the pre-refit Enterprise actually engages her saucer separation, blowing a series of explosive bolts. It was mentioned that this procedure can't be undone and that the two sections had to be reconnected through a major overhaul at a Drydock. We see the Conqueror (an alternate-universe Enterprise) do it in the fan film "Of Gods and Men" too.
@EVAUnit4A Look for the video, "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men - Part 10" by onlineequines. It's the last part of the film, and you see the saucer separation at the clip's start. By the way, if you're confused by anything you see, much of the plot of "Of Gods and Men" has to do with serious timeline tampering.
I think I've seen it mentioned somewhere that in some Excelsior-class ships were later refitted to be able to separate and reintegrate on-the-fly via mangalock like the Enterprise-D did.
@EVAUnit4A Oh, yeah. The film was a "labor of love" from Trek alumni for the fans. As a not-for-profit fan film, it's also available for free download, and the plot was a very interesting idea, especially bringing back Charlie Evans and Gary Mitchell. ^_^
@EVAUnit4A It all started when Charlie Evans, sometime after Kirk's loss in Generations, decides to go back in time and prevent his birth because he still thinks Kirk refused to help him. This resulted in a dangerously warped alternate reality. The reasoning was that without Kirk to stop him, Pike remained in command during the events of the 2nd pilot and got killed by Gary Mitchell, who went on to use his God-powers to conquer the Federation and mold it into a Terran Empire-like dictatorship.
It's great to see a Star Trek ship review done by someone who's really done his/her homework and can explain why we fans care about these details. Thank you for your efforts!
The Enterprise-D was my childhood dream. I grew up seeing her in action, watching TNG when I was just four years old. I would snatch this version (and the All Good Things "tri-nacelled monster") if I had the money, but as a poor college brat, I'll have to settle for those Japanese-made miniature trading models for now.
Hey EVA, I just won this item on ebay for .99 cents... awesome huh!? But shipping was $85, LOL! So my question is... is it worth it? Did I pay too much?
You're right about the transporter emitter decals. The Yacht on the D was the Calypso. And the Galaxy Class was designed during a time of relative peace when the Klingons & the Feds were cool with each other,the Romulans were hiding behind the Neutral Zone,the Cardassians had a cease-fire w the Federation and no one had even heard of the Borg. The Feds then figured that between the relative peace and the saucer sep capability,the civilians would be safe.
There was a big discussion about galaxy politics at the time the Galaxy-class was designed on CDX when I posted this, so I already heard that. Thanks anyways.
@CollectionDX @11:11 You are totally right about 10-forward being in that area. If you look at the show when they are in 10-forward, you can tell that the windows angle forward, toward the front of the saucer section. Thanks for letting the world know where it really is!!
Yay, great review!(Actually the longest I've seen so far :D)
I've got a problem with my model. When I separate the saucer section, the lights and sound of the saucer won't play. When the ship is completely attached together everything works fine. But when I separate the saucer, you can hear the sounds and see the lights for less then a second and then nothing happens. When I reattached the model, the reintegrationsound works. Batterys have been replaced a couple times.Do you know how to fix it?
I really wish they would make these with a small metal socket into the stand which would connect to a metal tab inside the ship, which is wired into the power system, and package or sell an AC adaptor which connects to the stand, allowing for continous light in display mode.
And it's oddly appropriate that it gets it's power from the battle section, because in the show, the ship derived power from it as well. The saucer section only had smaller generators and backup power.
An AC-adapter stand woulda been nice, but I think this is fine too. I just wish a longer-lasting battery system had been used in the Saucer!
Actually, that's a common misconception- that a Star Trek ship derives primary power from the warp reactor. If the warp reactor is shut down for any reason, why are the lights still on? Because they all get their power from fusion generators. (IIRC, the Ent-D had 5 generators.)
The fusion generators in the saucer section are for backup. The fusion generators supply power while the ship is in operation, but hte primary source of power is the bleed off from the warp core. The technical manuals show the EPS conduit tap in the warp core system. When the saucer is separated, the fusion generators in the saucer are what runs it. There is also battery backup. There are many episodes of Voyager (if you want to consider that) where the warp core is shut down, the
Yes, there is a back-up system in case the warp core and generators go down, but that is for emergencies. And, yes, the EPS can transfer power to the ship, but that too is a reserve system, NOT the primary draw for power.
In the case of saucer separation, it makes no difference if attached to the core or not because the Primary Hull ALWAYS draws power from the generators, so nothing changes there.
Ten-Forward = Tenth deck, forward section of the saucer section.
It is on the edge of the saucer. The Playmates version of the original had a sticker for it. The windows on the set match the windows on the filming model, including the curvature. Which the windows you point out (which do look like they could be Ten-Forward) lack.
Captain's Yacht is Calypso. The name was given by Patrick Stewart himself.
Yes, I KNOW where Ten-Forward is. I was just saying that the location on the filming model doesn't match the design of the set that the actors move through.
Kinda has to be for good storytelling, ya know? Plus, when you're on the edge of known space, you need to be prepared for anything. Of course, there are more-specialized ships in Starfleet that mop up after the Ent-D leaves, but she does the initial contact stuff and needs to be flexible to accomplish that.
If I heard correctly the TOS & TMP saucer separation used explosives to separate the saucer from the engineering haul, the 2 hauls had to be reassembled in space dock
Perhaps they used explosive bolts that could be replaced in dock, but I never heard the specifics on the technique; I only know it exists and that up until TNG it was a one-use-only proceedure.
Another fine review, Eva. I loved the heck out of TNG and still do and it's what got me into Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry's vision of space exploration really spoke to me as a kid and it's helped me a great deal in forming my own view of humanity within the universe. I hope we, too, will eventually be able to leave Earth and go boldly where no one has gone before.
It helps a lot that I don't have to break a review into a bunch of little 15min vids & ruin your concentration; an advantage of posting on CDX's channel.
I also like providing some substance to what I cover, not just for the people who already know the character. I don't like, "Here's a toy, and here's what it can do". I don't always get toys for myself for that reason, but I do it more for the uninitiated. =)
(Ack- I forgot how to do cheerleader-Kirby, FAIL.)
you are awsome eva you give all the ibformation and go over everything you think and everything the toy can do you are my idol eva keep reviewing the best you can
I'm here to show you everything I can about a toy, to directly influence you and impress you, so that you then go to our sponsors on CollectionDX and buy from them so I can get a kick-back at the end of the year.
j/k
I'm thorough because I want you to enjoy it as much as I do!
Having the nacelle grilles flash like that, though, makes me wanna go into an epileptic seizure or somethin'; just like the lights on Playmates Toys' reboot-Enterprise did. O_o
Agreed. EVA_Unit_4A. Your skills of a vidoe reviewer are spot on awsome. i've tried watching other reviews on the CollectionDX's youtube channel and thier quailty and excution of them are so subpar. your usage of sections/scenes or what ever you will call it, garrentees that the over all video quailty is so top notch. Keep up the AWSOME AWSOME work, i'll keep watching/rewatching your reviews
@EVAUnit4A Yep!! good for background watching when me playing my PS2, or just need something to enjoy when i got nuthing to do, hell i think i've watch your entire GAO ranger series like three times! >:D
excellent review Eva! Nice to see the Enterprise D get a solid toy. I havet both regular + Transwarping versions from Playmates, & their good. But I really like what Diamond did w/their versions.
Local TRU received the TOS Enterprise. I have Playmates' version already, but debating on getting it due to the extra sound effects.
A fun review and glad you got your favorite ship from the series!
I just hope we get an Enterprise C. A missling link in the toy line for sure.
@SuperFireDagwon Dude, get it!!! I also own the playmates version of the Enterprise D, and in my own opinion, the Diamond select version is far superior, much more detailed, a little bigger than the playmates version, and the saucer section can be removed as well as it's magnatized, I love mine!
Congrats on your new channel Eva (that makes me think, does the collection DX channel have playlists for each reviewer, that would be nice if one is looking for a particular review style)
And, though I love the Enterpise-D, I have to say the Enterprise-E is my top choice. though, as I watch DS9, the Defiant is making quiet an impression.
Third, in the pilot of DS9 we do get to see some consequences of having family aboard starships.
Lastly, you know your fans love your long reviews. =)
I asked Josh about playlists for individual reviewers in 2009, but he said no. HOWEVER, in my own channel, I have a playlist filled with all my CDX vids. So go there, and you'll find them all in one place. ;)
I'm holding-off on the Ent-E until they fix the warp nacelle grille LED problem. However, I have a TWoK refit-Ent and TWoK Phaser in my sights next... (Kills me I didn't have a refit-Ent for this vid, just KILLS me!)
I could not BELIEVE how long this ran either. O_o; I never thought I could do one this long and get away with it. I considered cutting it in half, but it just didn't play right that way because I didn't shoot it to be made in two parts.
I think most of the extra time got gobbled up by the trivia and extrapolation... which we Trekkies love to get into. ^^;
Thank you for this great review.

High-functioning autism is one part of what is coming to be known as the Autisic Spectrum of disorders (aka "ASD")- a specified range of medial conditions linked through common symptoms of mental retardation, learning impairment, and sometimes physical ailment. The one that I have- Asperger's Syndrome, specifically- is on the higher end of the spectrum. Meaning I can still communicate well even if my brain is still impaired.

It also helps that I have an hour-and-a-half to play with here! ^^ I'm glad you liked this.
I was lucky to find this one... years after its production ended! I went for the TWoK Ent the following week, and it was gone. Q_Q

None at all. ...If there had been, I would have mentioned it.
EVAUnit4A 10 months ago
Hey EVA, I just won this item on ebay for .99 cents... awesome huh!? But shipping was $85, LOL! So my question is... is it worth it? Did I pay too much?
Ianator73 10 months ago
You're right about the transporter emitter decals. The Yacht on the D was the Calypso. And the Galaxy Class was designed during a time of relative peace when the Klingons & the Feds were cool with each other,the Romulans were hiding behind the Neutral Zone,the Cardassians had a cease-fire w the Federation and no one had even heard of the Borg. The Feds then figured that between the relative peace and the saucer sep capability,the civilians would be safe.

StarTrekMarco 1 year ago
@StarTrekMarco
Thanks. Notice that- unintentionally- the video runs 47mins? >=)
Did you check the Battle Section's batteries? Did you press the reset button inside the Saucer Section when you replaced the batteries in it?
EVAUnit4A 1 year ago
Fusion generators are offline, and they are running out of stored reserve power.
Draknfyre 1 year ago
I really wish they would make these with a small metal socket into the stand which would connect to a metal tab inside the ship, which is wired into the power system, and package or sell an AC adaptor which connects to the stand, allowing for continous light in display mode.
And it's oddly appropriate that it gets it's power from the battle section, because in the show, the ship derived power from it as well. The saucer section only had smaller generators and backup power.
Draknfyre 1 year ago
@Draknfyre
EVAUnit4A 1 year ago
@EVAUnit4A
The fusion generators in the saucer section are for backup. The fusion generators supply power while the ship is in operation, but hte primary source of power is the bleed off from the warp core. The technical manuals show the EPS conduit tap in the warp core system. When the saucer is separated, the fusion generators in the saucer are what runs it. There is also battery backup. There are many episodes of Voyager (if you want to consider that) where the warp core is shut down, the
Draknfyre 1 year ago
@Draknfyre
EVAUnit4A 1 year ago
Ten-Forward = Tenth deck, forward section of the saucer section.
It is on the edge of the saucer. The Playmates version of the original had a sticker for it. The windows on the set match the windows on the filming model, including the curvature. Which the windows you point out (which do look like they could be Ten-Forward) lack.
Captain's Yacht is Calypso. The name was given by Patrick Stewart himself.
Draknfyre 1 year ago
@Draknfyre
Yes, I KNOW where Ten-Forward is. I was just saying that the location on the filming model doesn't match the design of the set that the actors move through.
EVAUnit4A 1 year ago
so it's an all-in-one purpose ship ^_^
astral33 1 year ago
@astral33

If I heard correctly the TOS & TMP saucer separation used explosives to separate the saucer from the engineering haul, the 2 hauls had to be reassembled in space dock
waffleownage 1 year ago
@waffleownage
"Hauls", ehh...? ;P

excellent review Eva!

I think most of the extra time got gobbled up by the trivia and extrapolation... which we Trekkies love to get into. ^^;
