@binky69 I believe this has the M22 in the bridge and the C22N in the neck. Don't quote me on that, but I did have them put the hotter Carvin humbucker pickup in the bridge for this build. It's definitely the highest output humbucker they make.
@arado240dd That is the sound of the amp that has been overly accentuated by the compressor I ran on the speaking part of the video. The level was a bit low, so I evened everything out with a compressor. This, unfortunately, meant bringing up the noise floor by about 20dB. The close mic doesn't have this problem since it was set to optimal signal to noise ratio based on the amp's volume. Camcorder mics do not do so well at optimizing signal to noise ratio, especially in a room like this.
Yep. turns out the Rebel 30 has different tubes. Both amps have Sovtek 12AX7WA tubes in the preamp stage (the Rebel 20 versions are rebranded Groove Tubes), but the Rebel 20 has Groove Tubes 6v6 and EL84 tubes, and the Rebel 30 versions are made by Ruby Tubes. I think the different power tubes are what resulted in a different tone. The Groove Tubes EL84s are a bit nicer. I'm curious how they would compare to some JJ tubes, which I've used before and like a lot.
Funny you should say that. I felt the same way. I'm not sure why that is, but I think it might be different tubes in the amps. The circuits are pretty much identical from what I know about the design, so I think the 12AX7 tubes in the preamp stage of the Rebel 20 must give it an edge over the Rebel 30 tubes. I may try swapping the Rebel 30 tubes with some great JJ or Tung Sol tubes I have lying around to see how it affects the tone. Both amps sound good, but the 20 is just a bit nicer IMO.
which pickups are in this carvin?

think I like the rebel 20 tone a little more over the 30 on your 2 videos.
