BTW Its the half block that pushes you up

ALSO water blocks all connect to eachother so said the almighty notch when he coded the game, the game thinks that the water is connected and thus flows down BUT the actual flow from the source block contradicts that and flows in the oppisite direction

It works with stairs too. This only works for players and mobs. If you want items to flow up, you need to use a clocked piston instead of a half step/stair.
