  • Whoa man, I'm getting one of these babies for my 16th birthday! So pumped!

  • Thumbs up if last action hero brought you here

  • anyone want to sell me their's?! I love Mercury to death!

  • the ride and handling of a fine european road car. The europeans must have been building better stuff then.

  • hard to believe the taurus/sable is 24 years old now

  • @iluvbuickgnx actually they are now 25

  • @iluvbuickgnx They were actually released on December 26, 1985 so next month they will officially be 25 years old

  • @tolaviator I see. In any case they were one of the best business decisions FoMoCo has ever made

  • @iluvbuickgnx agreed!

  • @atariboy84 --funny you should mention the light bar---when i bought this car in 2002 i went to a kragen or some such-found those bulbs right away-now that they're out again it's as if they never existed...the parts guys try to steer me to the #168 or #194 bulbs---not the same thing; naturally i lost the owners manual...and to tolaviator-remember that lee iacocca called these cars'flying potatoes'...

  • @renofirvine lee iacocca was jealous none of his designs sold anywhere close to as many as taurus/sable

  • @tolaviator---well i have one that i like very much+ its ancestor a '69 montego-both midsize mercurys, but from different eras...

  • I love how the Mercury Sable and Ford Taurus were styled differently than other cars back in the 80's. Very sleek styling for cars of this time period.

  • @JJ9715 Many people dont realize these two cars set the trend for automotive design for the next 20 years. Cars in the late 70's and early 80's were just boxes on wheels

  • '

    no thank,,,

    i dont like this car,,,

front grille is a block and not let the cooler air to the radiator to cooler motor,,,

    bad design

  • @bestamerica the air flows through the radiator from under the front bumper, this is how almost all cars are designed now.

  • iluvbuickgnx,

    '

only under the front bumper is NOT enough cooler air to the motor,,,

must be all front, middle, under,,,

    this car is RECALL time

  • @bestamerica my sister has an 87 taurus, it has 295000 miles, my lumina went to 248000 miles using the bottom breather design, it doesn't matter how the air gets to the radiator, all that matters is that it does get there.

  • iluvbuickgnx,

    '

    that is good,,,

keep up change oil, filter, tune up at the garage or home,,,

    smile

  • @bestamerica <---This guy is just a troll everyone ignor him he will go away.

  • MSNIMSM'

    '

    dont insult me,,,

    let explain about this car,,,

i am good judge than ford,,,

    i dont go away

  • @bestamerica Ford is great you just gay. Suck my cock. Fuckin gook lookin ugly faggot.

  • MSNIMSM,

    '

    dont insult me again,,,

dont use bad word on me,,,

ford is some good and some lousy

  • @bestamerica Fuck you your a cock eater go to hell. Faggot. And why dont you make me? What are you gonna do? Throw a chop stick at me? lmao

  • MSNIMSM,

    '

MSNIMSM is a very immature person

  • @bestamerica Its called trolling retard. If I am so "immature" than how can I use grammar correctly? lol Bestamerica is brain dead. He can barely speak english and calls himself american. lol Dumb people make me lol

  • RIP Mercury

  • the 86 sable is here,,,and in my garage...

  • @renofirvine Are you a Sable collector?

  • @renofirvine Are you a Sable collector?

  • MY UNCLES BAND NAME IS SABLE SEX!

  • the song used in this commercial was get ready from the proclaimers

  • Depressing

  • I was a little kid in 80s and remember these cars with lights in the center were very striking. It was probably a good design move back then, when most people expected cars to have 2 headlights..not the entire front illuminated.

  • my mom has the exact car. red. completly rust free

  • I never have understood the purpose of the center headlights, a few Pontiacs were like that too.

  • ya i know i have a 1993 mercury topaz and it has the same headlights i guess they were just made to look sophisticated and sporty i guess

  • There`s no function per se, it`s only to make the car look more distinctive.

  • Hello...1986 Sable owner...bit of bad news for you. You need a new transmission.

  • what do you mean by that there new they don't need new trannys

  • I bought a 1986 Sable Wagon two months after they hit the showroom. The shop manager, a few days later when I dropped by to get the tailgate trim damaged during unloading replaced, told me my new engine was due in that week. Turns out the first batch had faulty rings that did not expand properly and caused a little slapping (tick, tick, tick). That first year (and a few later years) were also bad for automatic transmission warranty replacements as well.

  • Oh...the tailgate glass would unexpectadly blow out on the 1986. Something to do with the heat from the defroster unit on the glass and the turbulence throwing rain and road slop onto the top of it. That was corrected for 1987.

  • transmission failure was common in these cars.

  • ya it very well was thats why for my 1st car i got a 1987 olds calis instead of a 1987 ford tarus with 221 and the olds calis had only 91 thousand there not original k though

  • One of Mercury`s finest cars to date. I love the styling, both the sedan and wagon are strikingly beautiful. Way ahead of its time. Other wonderful designs are the 1987 Mercury Cougar and first generation Mercury Villager (1992-1995) with the unmistakable and distinctive light bar and cool digital gauges. I plan on buying and restoring many of these someday.

  • My parents had that car (though it was a 1990 i think) and I was 2, but I still have memories of it.

  • I bought one of these in 86.. Did pretty well for about a year then the transmission fell out and it was all over. People called it a "potato car"

  • did you get the tranny replaced under warranty??? and did the tranny actually fall out of the car??

  • Digimo 93 "BITCH" JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA stupid

  • "Ride and handling of a European car." Apparently the people at Ford hadn't actually driven a European car at the time. I drove a '91 Taurus and nothing about the way the car drove felt remotely European. The front end bobbed on the highway, while the rear end felt very stiff. The steering was really vague. The brakes felt like every other American car around that time that I've driven. Nothing European about that. I do like the Taurus/Sable though.

  • I've had two Tauruses and this was one of the best designed cars ever. Very well thought out and highly balanced car unlike many other cars. It drives like a crown vic but handles like an escort. And my 94 wagon gets better mpg than my mom's '01 Altima 2.4 4 banger.

  • @keyofdavid88 ya but i hope u got ur sub frame mounts replaced. ford originally put very thin tinny mounting plates in them. if u didnt get them replaced in the recall ur whole subframe could fall out.

  • Holy Shit! The lastest Honda Civic hatch is'nt the only one with the see-thru grill. Here's a car that had one about twenty years earlier.

  • does anyone else besides me notice how much the 1990+ sables and tauruses look alike?

  • I can see the resemblence, except for the grill, they got the same concept

  • cool ad.

  • These were AWESOME cars! Great commercial, thanks for posting.

  • i all most got a 1989 with the dig dash it only had 46.000 miles on it so it said looked brand new to but the price tag was 3k to much LOL

  • I really never liked the styling of the wagon. I don't know why...

  • Me either

  • I like the 86 taurus commercials. More catchy and upbeat.
