My mother told me that Quincy Jones wrote that song in our apartment at Stora Essingen Stockholm during the night before they should have a big concert in the Swedish Konserhuset. And when they played it the musicians had to have all the notes on the floor in order to see what the hell they should play. And as everybody knows it was an enormous success. (My father Johnny Ekh played saxophone in Harry Arnolds storband).
for this extraordinary piece of music is is surely one of the very best. ron, not sure if I sent this ornot, but regardless worth a second listen. and more. jil
@3gxk: How can you say that Earl Hines is forgotten? Nobody has forgotten him who heard him in Berlin in the sixties and seventies. I've been a Hines fan since I first heard his old Jimmie Noone and L. Armstrong records of the 20ies. No, Fatha's reputation is alive and well!
Best ever? I read that Arne and Quincy wrote this peace of work in a taxi heading home from the nightlife in Stockholm in june when the nights are smooth and ligth....
@Sockworshipper:- It's sure worth having a listen to Earl Hines doing this solo on " '65 Piano Solo The Definitive Back & Blue Sessions" [on iTunes] - for me even more beautiful than this one
@MrTolesi: Thanks Mr T. The Earl Hines one is just so great. Why isn't Hines more famous - just look at his Wiki entry. Hines was so wonderful and seems so forgotten now.
This is Harry Arnold......

The taste is like the backside. Divided. In my opinion. Dompan is playing the shirt of anyone from Amerikat.
