@reev9759 - Check back in a few years, I hope to be taking a trip east through the Erie Canal, then north into Canada and up the Trent Severn waterway which even has a 'lock' which carries boats on a massive rail car. Stay tuned ;-)
@ohiocanalgirl - I was involved with the restoration of a lock in Lockington, Ohio. You can see the lock in Google Maps (satellite) - the one closest to the intersection of Museum and Cross. Look closely at the house on the SE corner, and you can see how it was altered so the canal could pass nearby. A journal from one of the locals tells of how the homeowner's children would dance for the passing boats, and how the passengers would throw pennies back to them.
