Paul Kossoff seemed to be the only lead gutairist who had the gift of being able to 'talk' through his lead playing, as if telling a story of the blues in musical notes expressing emotional feeling, like he really meant it, not just showing off, but genuine emotion coming through in notes. Very few lead gutairists manage that. Clapton in his Edge Of Darkness & Communion film scores, Dave Gilmour, Snowy White, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck having their great moments too.
hey. i don't give a damn if it's not live, this is an awesome band, awesome song. thank you for posting this video. people complain too effin' much around here. rock on.
@ajswift That's because it's an audio track with a different video film uploaded to give you something to watch! This particular live track was never filmed
O'k you've really got my attention, because I thought I had all of FREE's recordings, and I don't have this. Can you tell me if this is a cd that can be purchased,or was this something obscure that you found? Thanks
@ledclark The songs not the same as the video because the show was never filmed unfortunately, I was there and it was probably the best gig I have ever seen and I nearly missed my bus back to erith because of the encore!
It's news to me that Free did the Stealer at the Mecca on this date - the only new songs they did were 'All right now' 'Mr Big' (different to your version) 'Oh I wept' and 'Remember' - the last two have never been released. They were so intent on All right now being right (both takes were messed up - the first by Kossoff's dodgy lead, the second by the band just messing it up) that they wouldn't have had time to even think about the next single
@NeilThompson30 Thx Neil. Yes, you are right on that one. The Stealer and Mr. Big are from Croydon, Fairfield Hall show on 13/9/70. Thanks for the reply, have changed to the correct concert detail.
i believe this video is from the granada tv programme' Doing Their thing' recorded in manchester and not croydon

What a great vibrato Kossoff had. Before I saw these vids I thought he used a tremolo bar.

Get a grip, this is not live! Half the time Paul is nowhere near the mic while vocals are coming out in the audio!
