i have a question!! i know i want a 6 hole ocarina but im not sure what sound i should get, what is best for beginners? alto? tenor? soprano? i dont know the difference!
@ChubbyPelican I'm Not Docjazz, but I think I might be able to field this one. The 7 hole actually plays in The english pendant style, which is described as harder to learn, but easier to master. The twelve hole, which is at odds, is easier to learn, but harder to master. So it depends. They're virtually the same in terms of range, and they're both beautiful to look at and listen to. So 'better' is a little arbitrary, it depends what you like.
@tchapps1 If you're meaning like a drop while standing onto hardwood floors? no it most likely will shatter/break but if on like a couch or pillow it shouldn't but don't quote me on it.
@tchapps1 Nope, you are definatly screwed. The first day I got mine I dropped it and it broke. Lucky for me it was a really clean break and I glued it back together. It sounded good as new but it scared the crap out of me until I could play it again. P.S. It was in a carrying case whick was slightly padded so I'm not sure what would've happened if it wasn't in the case.
Did something happen to that ocarina? on the website it is a MUCH more lighter blue like baby blue and has this weird design beside the triforce. In my opinion, I think I realllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy prefer the STL Ocarina Of Time, because their new one is actually improved -.- and its shiny, dark blue, and the triforce is nicer, but I'm not sure about the sound it sounds fine, oh and its cheaper and looks a lot better. Im definitely going to buy one really soon.
that's good news to me that it's quiet! :D the first ocarina i bought was high pitched and really loud and because of that, i can't play it much, it gets on everyones nerves! >.< although, the conservatory i have prevents sound from entering the house when it's door is shut
This video has seriously convinced me to wanna learn how to play an ocarina. I already know how to play a couple differrent instruments and know I know for sure this will be my next instrument. With that said this was a very good video.
what song did you play i just ordered my first ocarina yesterday and want to know.and btw legend of zelda ocarina of time is my favorite game of all time.
I have this ocarina. It's my first Twelve hole, I got it because I liked the tone, but I'm having an issue. I'm starting to get used to it, but I can't seem to get the sub holes to work right. I make sure I'm covering all the holes with my fingers, but when I reach down, the tone is the same and never changes. I adjust my breath, still the same thing. What am I doing wrong? I'm starting to get very discouraged.
@justpeachyoneohthree MAKE SOME MONEY, GET A JOB, WASH THE CAR, MOW THE LAWN, ANYTHING!!! Thats how I made the money and after this review I think Im gonna buy it!!! Also google it!!! Songs on the ocarina are everywhere!!! And if your using a sweet potato ocarina (like the ocarina of time) then its even easier to play by ear. If your using a cross finger, thats a different story... (its a lot harder to play by ear because of the confusing combinations)
This was my very first ocarina, and I can't praise it highly enough. The sound is beautiful, it's extremely well-made, and the design is spot-on. If you're thinking about getting an ocarina, make it this one.
@BeyondBirthdayL well maybe that's what you think about but other people might think it's not so it really matters on what other people think not just you.
Hey david i recently baught a dragon tooth ocarina i had a choice either i get this ocarina or a really cool dragon tooth so i was wondering do you have to do anything to reach the 2 sub hole low notes lik blow softer or louder please comment back!
I really want to buy an ocarina. The responsible? Ocarina of time, its just a wonderful instrument! is it hard to learn? or can you learn easily with practice?
i bought it for 113$, about 80€, it's a great instrument, i tested it with a programm and it's 100% in tune and very fun to play for everybody. no problem with delivery to germany
@cccchhhhable that's not entirely true. Ocarinas can have all different shapes and sizes and hole placements. And the exact 7 hole from songbird is just like the 12 hole featured in this video.
Actually, the ocarina from the game has 7 holes with no thumb holes. You can buy that EXACT Oot at songbirdocarinas but you have to call and place your order. I think the number is 866-OCARINA
@mattmerolla I'm not sure if I have this right because i was reading the manga and playing the game this morning ^_^; but when you get the ocarina back in mojora's mask from skull kid and you look through the holes when the ocarina spins around, you can see through it implying that there are holes in the back. Also if you look carefully it has 8 holes so really the only difference are the two small holes which would have been kinda small to have put in that detail.
I got my Oot a year ago for Christmas. It has a great sound, despite my parents getting mad at me because they dont like to hear me....and it hurts my brother's ears...So im thinking im using too much air. xD Overall Id give this Ocarina a 10/10. Because it sounds great and it looks so much like the Ocarina of Time from the game.
@animefreak619 nope, there are only few ocarinas that can be used as necklaces, such as pendants. the only 12 hole i know that can be put around your neck is the dragon tooth (from songbird).
this actually isnt ACURATE, because the one in LoZ has 9 holes, and is left handed. but who wants a 9 hole left handed ocarina? so this one is still the best, cause this makes playing it better, I'm just saying it's not EXACTLY the same as the one in LoZ.
@coolxbubblez The in-game one designed like that to look like the C pad keys on the N64, and to make it look more natural with the left handed Link. There is actually a playable ocarina designed to look exactly like the in-game one.
@Gonnnondorf1 yeah, I know there's one designed to look like the in game one, Docjazz was saying this one is the most acurate so I was just saying it's not exactly designed as the one in the game. I think this 12 hole would be better for playing purposes since most people are right handed and a 12 hole is more exciting than a 9 hole
I would say the songbird one, I have been at the songbird shop and they make great ocarinas. This seems to be the one of choice if you want a zelda replica and it has a great sound.
I really want an ocarina and I think they sound amazing but I live in the uk and can only find plastic ones with only 6 holes and I can't seem to find any books on playing an ocarina either :(
I got the replica and the triforce is not how david has it, its pushed in and its uses some kind of platic small triangles so if someone could explian why that is thank you, and some how the blue color glaze got on the ring and its bothering me anyone can tell me how to remove the glaze that be great and is washing it water bad and is keeping it in a small bag with blankets for protecting bad if anyone can answer i will be very greatful
@OkuramX3 They changed the way they made the ocarina.. They use those crystals on the triforce now, probably because it looks cooler, and the blue glaze on the metal band is probably just a creation error... its not going anywhere unfortunately. When glaze is fired, it's glazed for life.
@Elyrisiu My further research seems to confirm what I thought- the Spencer is the highest-quality OoT available. However, I've also heard this one is VERY good, and if you want to pay less than $300 you're probably better off with this one. :) Hope that helps!
the band is actually made of Platinum, not gold, but that's cool, platium is similar to gold, onley it's more rare, more valuble, and can be used as a chemical catalyst (not that you would do so in this case.)
this ocarina is a limited edition, so in addition to being the best zelda replica around and having a beautiful sound, this ocarina will get more and more valuble with time. (ironic for this ocarina XD.)
THIS IS THE OCARINA I WANTED! I am having a nerdgasm. This Ocarina is so hi-quality, and it is so low priced!!! $99.95 (unless they changed it) It is also a Soprano (even though Docjazz4 says it's quiet. I think that was on purpose to make it that way)
Exelent review. Since it's a Zelda based ocarina you'd expect it to mainly be about looks than the sound, but luckily Songbird Ocarina's are really passionate about ocarinas and got a perfect combination of both style and sound =D

@Elyrisiu My further research seems to confirm what I thought- the Spencer is the highest-quality OoT available. However, I've also heard this one is VERY good, and if you want to pay less than $300 you're probably better off with this one. :) Hope that helps!

Though FYI, I'm no expert.

@Anb0lmer yes thanks a lot :D I will order mine next day!

the band is actually made of Platinum, not gold, but that's cool, platium is similar to gold, onley it's more rare, more valuble, and can be used as a chemical catalyst (not that you would do so in this case.)
this ocarina is a limited edition, so in addition to being the best zelda replica around and having a beautiful sound, this ocarina will get more and more valuble with time. (ironic for this ocarina XD.)

which do you like better now Spencer ocarina of time or songbird ocarina of time?
EarthToFantasy 1 year ago
THIS IS THE OCARINA I WANTED! I am having a nerdgasm. This Ocarina is so hi-quality, and it is so low priced!!! $99.95 (unless they changed it) It is also a Soprano (even though Docjazz4 says it's quiet. I think that was on purpose to make it that way)
Thank You DocJazz4, anew.

Exelent review. Since it's a Zelda based ocarina you'd expect it to mainly be about looks than the sound, but luckily Songbird Ocarina's are really passionate about ocarinas and got a perfect combination of both style and sound =D

ocarinasofdcm 1 year ago
Hey, it's been a while and STL have made one called the special edition zelda replica.
Is that better than this?
GlitcherPwnsAll 1 year ago
@GlitcherPwnsAll No, this is much better. STL's "special edition" is just their same Alto C painted different.
