  • I liked this song the first time I heard it at a party in London in early 1982. I have been in the States since and looked it up on YouTube quite recently. What's the meaning of the title: tire Ni Oluwa?

  • @JETOO1 Tire Ni Oluwa means 'IT IS YOURS GOD.

Aro ni, osan ni, ale ni, tire ni Oluwa.

In the morning, afternoon and evening, IT IS YOURS GOD.

  • @planetolusola nice try.

Actually what you wrote is the transliteration.

The contextual meaning / translation is 'My past, my present and my future are yours O Lord'

  • Sonny Okosun a man of no tribal boundary

  • yeah u're right! a great man of no tribal boundary!!!!!

  • Sonny Okosun is the most detribalized Nigerian I have met. He shared that attribute wt the great Zik of Africa, Adegoke Adelabu, Adeniran Ogunsanya and Alh Bagudu (BCC) of Nupeland. I guess God spared Nigeria of some more oddities after the Civil War because of them and their legacies. Sunny is a tall monument, take it or leave it!

  • His was a Legend, listing to his music make me want to cry. i had his music last about 27years ago in my Dad Macu.

  • Now,i am remembering my late father,Sunny Okosun,RIP,I am sure my dad would hugged you when he saw you, abi?

  • please can someone tells me how old was this man wen he passed, just curios

  • He was 67yrs

  • He was actually 61years not 67years. Born 1947 died 2008

  • This is one of Suny Okosuns special which reminds me of my county and one of language that bind it together.

    Thanks

  • ...the song is in Yoruba..

  • SAA

It is not where you start but how you finish your earthly journey that counts. Evangelist Sonny Okosun ran his race victoriously to the end and has entered into his eternal rest.

My prayer for the family is that the Lord strengthens them daily in this loss and that the grace bestowed on them by the Lord will not be in vain. Amen.

  • may his soul rest in peace and he,ll be greatly missed.

  • I was a journalist and covered the Music beat for the Daily Times. Interview Sonny Okosuns was a delight that I can't readily say. News of his death was personally. A great man to study. Understood communication, market sensitisation, audience behaviour. And a good man. I miss him already, especially in a society that doesn't study its icons. Can somebody study KSA now and know the details of his musical success? Jahman Anikulapo of Guardian, Nseobong of ThisDay, Dapo Adelegan, over to you all.

  • Everytime I hear this song, I remember as a 7yr old in army children school ikeja, the song was played on the radio and i can remember that era like yesterday. Snny Okosun found christ and I am very sure he made heaven, Its left to us who are here to make it. I am very happy for him. In a way I feel I lost my own father. RIP

  • R.I.P Sonny Okosun. sit on the arm of your lord

  • I would like to express my condolences to the Okosun family. I grew up listening to Sonny Okosun´s music, great inspiration. R.I.P you will be forever appreciated.

  • i cant stop crying men. i wonder why good ppl like sunny have to die, i guess we all owe the debt of death and must be paid wether or not we like it. RIP. my heart goes to the family too, stay bless.

  • Thanks again to every body that sends their love. My dads wake in dc,md,va will be on the 13th of june. I will let everyone know the location. Then we will fly him back to Nigeria for the state funeral. Thank u all and God bless.

    Sidney Okosun

  • Dear Sidney, my sympathies for your dad's passing. Take comfort in HIS song "Tire ni Oluwa" (it's God's). He has simply gone back to the One who owns and blessed him. His life is an inspiration as I read his humble start and struggles. Honour him by remaining "in" Christ yourself. Kola Tayo (UK)

  • Human existance is nothing without JESUS, his only gain is that he will have the hope to rise with the saints on the last day, by this time last year, we had him in our church in Belgium, and now he is dead, This is also an opportunity to us that is living to accept Christ as our lord and saviour, because death is a price we all must pay , but what we dont know is when we are paying it, don't wait for tomorrow, that may never come act today, may his soul rest in perfect peace

  • R.I.P Sonny Okosun.

  • may his soul rest in peace

  • Sonny Okosun remains a great icon in Nigeria. I will always appreciate his music forever. He is and remains my best musician. Rest in peace brother Sonny.

    Valentine Koledoye

  • may your soul rest in peace (amin)

  • I remember how I and my siblings used to run towards the TV set when his songs were being played many years ago. We liked his songs a lot. Wayback in Benin City. This brings back a lot of memories. I played his songs on youtube a great deal just yesterday only to read in the papers this morning that he had passed on. Woa! May his soul rest in peace as we pray that God grants his family the fortitude to bear the loss. Rest in peace, Sonny Okosun.

  • Thanks for what you did for the people. The first time I met you at Aguda Surulere with Henry Nwosu was a gift I will not forget. Finally, you came to know the lord. RIP. We will see you again. God bless your family at this time.

  • May Okosun's soul rest in perfect peace. He loved his In-laws in Onicha Ezinihitte Mbaise dearly. On behalf of Ndi-Onicha Amairi I salute this great hero;Sunny Okosun[MON]...

  • Thank you All for ur kind words. He was the best father anykid can have and i love and miss him.

  • Hello Sidney,

Sincere condolence on the loss of your father, the most venerable pastor and evangelist Sonny Okosun. He was a true man of faith, a man who inspired a whole country not only through his musical legacies and his fight against oppression, but also through his religious ministries. He's now sitting on the right side of our Lord Jesus Christ. Take comfort in the fact that he is now in a place of rest.

    Olusola.

  • may his soul rest in perfect peace

  • I have lost a great Uncle. It hurt's badly to know that he didn't survive.

  • RIP Sonny Okosuns, i am very happy you died a born again christian

  • The passing of another great musician who fought for the emancipation of the black man. Did our leaders listen to him or did they replace in worse ways the oppressive tendencies of the colonial masters? May he rest in Perfect Peace.

  • Sonny ! We love you and we will definitely miss you! May your gentle soul rest in peace. No more struggles, No more oppressions. You are now in the arms of God.

  • Sonny Okosun is an icon in the world stage of music. He should be producing most of these younger generation artists. He's well experieced in musical arena. I fell in love with his music and style when he joined forces with Eddy Grant in 1978/1979 in Lagos. This particular song came out shortly afterward. Eddy also produced "WIPE MO NFE E and IFE TI MO MO TI TAN" at the time.

Good song, good man. I was his nighbor then. Thanks.
