There is no written rule about borrowing someone else's boat but THERE IS regulation about your correct display of identification, equipment and safety in order when your boat's inspected.
THE DANES SIMPLY DINT GIVE A TOSS.
THAT's what's wrong for all the rest of the teams that DID OBSERVE THIS RULE.
It is incredibly arrogant not to go out to compete under another country's flag confusing everyone and taking the piss.
Your mast breaks before a race, you don't have time to fix it. Another boat is there, with normal equipment, safety, and whilst the identification is for another boat, it would have been registered as part of the olympics, and was fine.
None of the other teams actually had a major failiure 30 minutes before a race.
The result was deemed legal, so what is your problem with it?
I imagine the people who wrote the rules know them slightly better than you?
Denmark was by far the best crew! Just take a look at the results before the Medal Race, folks! If the Spanish team had been in front before the medal race and had broken their mast on the very same, I'm sure that they just would look at the other sailors stealing their medal doing nothing :)
The aim of regattas is to find the best sailing team, it even does not matter on whose boat! Moreover! They finished the race on the 7th position, which shows that they are excellent sailors. The Danish deserved gold.
Check the Swedish laser sailor who lost medal because British guy match raced him to the last place. Without the Medal race he could have that discard.
The Croatian boat was measured before the race and was under the class rules. Anyway Danish only needed to finish the race to win gold since 2 boats retired so they could also finish last and still have it (considering not having camera) . So there was no advantage! The other thing is that ISAF should reconsider Medal Race format since it is not fair to lose something you build in previous 12 races.
Danish gold is well deserved! Sailing others people 49er in that conditions is twice as hard as sailing your own. They started 4 minutes after everybody else and were probably under great stress at that time so if u think they had an advantage you are very wrong. We would give that boat to ANY other team ( Spanish even ) if they broke something because it should be decided on water.
I don't understand why Spain is still complaining about this. I think the sportsman-ship showed by both the Danes and the Croatians was amazing. LET DENMARK KEEP THE MEDAL AND LETS ALL APPLAUDE CROATIA!! By The Way im not Danish nor Crotian.
The ships authorize them in the night, the Croatian ship was not going to go out therefore they did not authorize it and wouldnt can to have sailed.
In adition They was not taking TV's camera and was weighing less and the not wise people that they were the Danishes since they were taking the flag of croacia,unfair...
Croatia I also think you guys have amazing Sportsman ship.
I also dissagree with everyone who sais it is an unfair Medal because it is not their falt that the mast broke and they just did the right thing, change their boat, you can't just chage you mast. If anything Brakes on a 49er, Trapez,Sail,The wing anything and your race is over.
It let us see the equality of Beijing 2008, the rules are the rules if you broke that´s because you have made a mistake, because no other´s sailors have broken their mast... An unfair medal...

I agree, not just because I'm Danish, but because they (incl. thr Croatian) showed so much sportsmanship!
If one of the other boats had done the same, I would think the exact same about them =D!
Good sportsmanship! Beautiful!

Change the boat is not allowed. They comitted a mistake training before the race.
The use of croatia flag confused the rest of teams among others irregularities.
I prefer the gold medal go to Croatia so was the boat's flag.

We love you, Croatia!
No Danes should ever go to Spain anymore - go to Croatia and spend your holiday money there!
Kick out Spain from the EU and let Croatia be full members ;)

Congratulations on medal! :)

Thank you Croatia. The Olympic spirit is still alive...but Spain can still ruin it and destroy the best action so far in Beijing.

but right now the other boats have protest against the danish team.
so i dont know if they will take the gold away from them.
gelle81 3 years ago
but on the way out to the start the danish boat there mast broke.
so they went to shore and after a while they got out on the water again in croatia´s boat.
denmark was not ready when the other boats started.
they start a couple of minuts after the others but still came in 7 and won the gold overall.
thanks again to the croatia team.
from a danish dude :-)
