Did you like your experience in Korea? I am strongly considering doing this. What recruitment agency did you use to land a job? What did you do for fun? How much money did you make/save? Do you still teach there? Was it a culture shock? Were there any other English speakers around you and was it hard to make friends? I have a ton of questions. lol
I thought Korean take a shower like Japanese. I mean like how Japanese use the shower head while they are sitting down on a little chair and clean themselves.
@jakemiller026 thanks, yeah i loved this place. i went because i'd just graduated college and didn't want to grow up yet, and asia became my playground. it was one of the better decisions i've made, and i do recommend teaching abroad.
@GimmeKitty i taught english with the municipal school system in seoul. my school paid rent (around 700USD) and i only had to pay electric/apt fees (~$100) and gas (~$20).
nice apartment.. i would love to live in korea.. but it's gonna be hard since i'm not a teacher and my first language isn't English (although i'm pretty fluent in english). i will try anyways.. if not korea maybe japan.
@eisfield i knew some people in korea who likewise spoke english as a second language, sometimes not perfectly, and some of them earned way more than i. it's possible. i'd look to go more in the direction of private schools (aka hagwons in korea).
@jordandelwell thank you so much for answering! :) I'm not a teacher though.. i'm already in my last year of university. How about other professions? i only know about english teachers going to Korea.. it's it hard to find other kinds of jobs there if you are a foreigner? I'm in the health area.. if you could help i would appreciate it.. no one else has answered me.
@eisfield where are you from? i've not heard of many cases of foreigners working non-educational jobs in korea except for military or factory jobs. the workforce is pretty competitive there so naturally they prefer to hire koreans if being foreign isn't a prerequisite for it (as it is for many english teaching jobs). if you would be interested in teaching though, you don't need to have a background in teaching or education. most of my friends majored in unrelated subjects in university.
@jordandelwell I'm from Portugal. Thank you so much. I was expecting that it would be really difficult in my area. I don't think I'm confident enough with my English skills to teach but I will try to get more information :) I would really like to experience life in Korea even if few years.
Most family have bathrooms that have divided shower and toilet... most of small economic homes probably have no shower area.... I never lived in a home without divided shower area... yes.
@jordandelwell I'd love it too! ^_^ Before I looked at these Korean apartment videos, I kind of always imagined myself moving into a small apartment. I like space, but I like what's big enough for me. The bathrooms are a little too cramped and I like baths sometimes, so I'd not like that too much. haha.
So, what did you like most about Korea and what did you like least?
Did you happen to notice if there are any other jobs for Americans there other than teaching?
@jordandelwell I've watched many of these videos (I have no life) and noticed that there is a similar format to all these aparments.... However there are two videos I watched that had the exact same apartment. haha. Two different attendants too! So I was wondering if the apartments in one building are all the same and the apartments of another building are all the same... Or if maybe the person in the video in fact got the same apartment as someone else who posted on youtube.
This is the best teacher's apartment ive seen so far, not to mention the fact its in a really good location!!! I hope i'm fortunate enough to have an apartment as nice as this when i move to korea!
Nice place. I'd worry about getting the washing machine wet while showering. Also, the loft stairs freak me out (so steep) but it's a really great place. Nice layout and really high ceilings make it feel more spacious!
@GnomeGuardian thanks for your suggestion. in the two years that i've lived here, i never once considered looking inside my cabinets for a place to hang my clothes.
@jordandelwell - you don't even need to go in cupboards for space, when there's room under the stairs for hanging clothes. Just get a tension rod, or one that screws into the wall (whichever is safer with the stairs). And in the sleeping area, you have that great niche that can hold a small cabinet or drawers.
@Gilthoras all the apartments are free if youre an english teacher...i have yet to see a full time teaching job that doesnt offer a free apartment. if your school doesnt offer you one then dont take the job~~
Life abroad makes it very difficult to keep up with social media, etc. (You haven't updated this in a long time.) I lived in Japan for a year, and have been thinking about possibly going to Korea someday. I'm not sure if you're still in Korea, but you should upload another video telling us of your experience.
That's a great bedroom area! some of them look like coffins o-------o

i REALLY like that loft idea, and how the ceilings are tall. great place!
TemporarySushi 1 month ago
In korea, it called as 'Officetel', not apartment.
Usually Korean apartment has over 2 separated rooms and living room and has an outer balcony.
These officetels are used as kinda SOHO office, and some for one person home. :)

The area underneath your stairs usually has some pole device to hang clothes, usually in a cabinet.
My friend lived in a similar apartment and thats what his deal was
