  • 1976 was a great year to see this band live Best line up ever!!!!!1

  • it doesnt get any better than this... the ultimate super rock group!

  • One broken guitar was not enough.

Ritachie needed to crash 2nd one also.

  • " ....dio would never have been if it weren't for blackmore.....listen to elf and you will know "Elf is just brilliant, is one of a kind band with awesome composittions,Dio's voice as good as always.a great keybordist, great drummer. as somebody said hhere in a post Dio was too talented to be obscure for long. Those who don't know yet, listen to Elf to see how good it is.I knew them after knowing rainbow.i was surprised, its more blues rock honky tonky stile.Surprising quality.trust me

  • Ronnie told the truth, if you took a look at what Rainbow released after the departure

of Dio: POPY BULLSHIT COMMERCIAL STUFF

  • What kind of idiot fires Ronnie James Dio?

Don't get me wrong, Blackmore can play (certainly better than me) but come on. You're fortunate enough to have both Dio and Cozy Powell in your band and you fire one and drive away the other?

    Blackmore's current obscurity is deserved.

  • @MountainofJudgment according to the book "black night" thats about blackmore he fired ronnie because he started being whipped by his girlfriend and she started telling him what to do, blackmore didn't like this much and fired him.as for cozy he just left because blackmore wanted to take the music in a different more "popy" direction.

  • I wonder how many people would be at a Rainbow show,be a bit high or drunk, stare at the dancing rainbow lights while being bombarded with sound and puked? That thing can make u dizzy!

  • Saw their act at the Jahunderhal in FRG circa 75/76? Awesome

lights&silk screen, looked like it was coming at you(did rooms

that night!) The theater was classic with cops everywhere. Was

tense&controlled at first till Dio went to front of stage&yelled"come

on"everybody ran to front.Blackmore had picks stuck all over guitar

&mic&gave them out between licks to front rowers.Hall had 4

chan capacity surround snd, loudest concert 4me. Dio &

Blackmore were an awesome act to catch.

  • in july 1978 rainbow blew reo speedwagon off the stage in okc's myriad in front of 15000 people,

  • @MrKeithwelsh Thank you, I couldn't remember who was the headliner that night. The Myriad had never been that loud before or since. That show is forever etched into my mind but whoever followed this great lineup had no chance.

  • Wow what an amazing band with an amazing sound! Blackmore a very gifted guitarist and song writer... one of the Best IMO. Ronnie James Dio, The Absolute Best vocals in Rock/Metal.. Rainbow certainly chose the perfect singer to represent this band... wish I could have seen them live, but unfortunately, in '76 I was only 10 years old... But hey I was old enough to own the album's and I owned them all! A few years later and a little bit older saw RJD with sabbath and then DIO several times! \m/ \m/

  • Rainbow underground? No, No my dear boy. Rainbow was HUGE! Arena huge! Headliners at Monsters of Rock etc. Blackmore was already regarded as one of the God's of his generation, Dio came from Elf and Cozy had been in the Jeff Beck Group. These dudes were bad ass.

  • interesting that in a lot of interviews lately Dio has said that they toured the Rising album in clubs in the US, with only mediocre chart success. Over subsequent years musicians started name-checking it as a major influence & gradually it - and this Rainbow lineup - were recognised as classics of the genre. Only later was that album appreciated for what it was. Of course, I knew all along.... ;-)

  • this new utube is a crock - "500 character remaining" MY ARSE...

  • Dio was with Rainbow before Sabbath...he came from ELF.

  • They weren't really underground, they were quite big during the mid-late 70s but the two main members Blackmore and Dio had both come from much more high profile bands, Sabbath and Deep Purple. They never managed to break from that shadow and so the band was largley forgotten by the masses.

  • How big was this in the 70s anyone know. It seems to me that they were kind of underground. like the masses were into kiss and bad co. and this band was kind of underground. I bet if I was a teen at this time and I told someone I liked this band, they would not know what I was talking about.

  • @corm1000 It seemed to me as if this whole genre was pretty much "underground" at the time which I suppose was part of the thrill. Only Purple, Zep, Floyd, Genesis, Yes and maybe The Who of the Brit bands were what I would consider mainstream. Then along came Lizzy, UFO, Priest, Motorhead to enjoy chart success before Punk came along.

  • looks like a fan recorder, sad stargazer and light in the black is not in the live munich 77 dvd

  • someone pls post catch the rainbow onstage version

  • Ritchie Blackmore-The greatest rock guitarist ever!!!!!

  • Wow they play stargazer way to fast...I sounds much better at the tempo on the album. It takes away from the vocals at this speed.

  • I would call Ritchie's slide solo...Echo in Eternity!

  • damn where did this come from i want the full song or at least the full solo its fukin awesome

  • sounds even better live

  • Does anybody know if the whole show was recorded and if it's gonna get a dvd release.

  • cozy powell fucking rocks!!!!!!!!!!! simply awesome

  • i think the rainbow lighting setup is one of the best ever

  • CADA DIA CANTAS MEJOR ,,, MAESTRO DIO

  • Ritchie Blackmore is the greatest guitarist I've ever seen and I think a reunion with Dio would resurrect his creative genius.

  • I guess this is when Dio was still naive to actually think that the name Richie Blackmore's Rainbow was actually the idea of the man in black lol and not a marketing strategy! Or maybe this was just the start of the hate campaign against Rich which seems to be so popular by the marketing giants of Deep Purple!

  • richie is god.......without broken guitars...

  • Sweet!!! I love it

  • awsome footage....best rainbow era

  • so is your mom

  • that is low! Cry me a river lol!

  • greatest band, greatest album, greatest song, greatest album cover.

  • Alas, good things never last. It went downhill fast from 1978 onwards.

  • Has anyone heard the Graham Bonnet version of stargazer|?........take my advice and dont bother, its sodding dreadful

  • I uploaded the video of the bonnet version of stargazer in monster of rock 1980

  • I went to see BLACK SABBATH with RONNIE JAMES last year at wembley, I just have to say they were fantastic... and my wish before is my turn to kick the bucket is to see my greatest favorite best band of all times playing again.... RAINBOW.. if only RITCHIE BLACKMORE could think about going back to play rock 'n' roll I bet you all RONNIE will be pleased to join him again and be RAINBOW once again and all we RAINBOW fans will be rocking together with them.... long live rock n roll

  • TO RIGHT MATE. let the rainbow rise once more.

  • Last I heard from Dio he was in the fucking greatest Rock Band period. Band is called "Dio" This is what he says after introducing his band mates so I doubt he would want to come back to Blackmore who is so hated by rockers... At least that is what the marketing ploy is lol.

  • zanatural .....what a retard....dio would never have been if it weren't for blackmore.....listen to elf and you will know

  • I seem to remember a cartoon/band named Butterfly Ball.....

  • "what a retard....dio would never have been if it weren't for blackmore.....listen to elf and you will know "

Oh bull shit!...Listen to the power...realize that Dio wrote the lyrics to not only this epic album, but Heaven and Hell...Holy Diver...Your an absolute imbecile if think he owes his entire career to Ritchie Blackmore...Ronnie thanked Ritchie for getting him noticed quicker...but a voice like his would never have remained hidden for long..Ritchie or no Ritchie.

  • Wow..!

    That riff...!

    Those drums..!

    That voice..!

    Fucking awesome..!

  • WOW I WAS THERE

  • ommgg i am in love with the solo on stargazer can anyone send me the video or better yet the audio recording of it???? rele apreciate it!!

  • Im in love with it too. Simply Briliant !!!

  • This is some of the best rock metal ever written... Dio and Blackmore were both towering GIANTS and we are so enriched by their creative chemisty!

  • rainbow is playing a light in the black!!!!

  • RJD =FAB!

  • BEST SONG EVER

  • small man but what a voice

  • Rainbow rules!! True Hard Rock!!!!

  • the greatest band of all time....

  • even now this is a breath of fresh air,mmm gets you kinda wondering, zeppelin are getting back together, dio doin heaven and hell, next dio/blackmore?lets wish and maybe catch the rainbow one more time.

  • They won't team up anymore. There was some talk about it in 1997, but the record companies or management or whatever were fucking things up.

At the moment, Dio only wants to record Magica 2 and then call it a day..

  • thats a pity would have loved a reunion mind i do know that blackmore took the death of cozy powel hard and the reunion was put on hold but its a shame we will never catch the rainbow

  • what you expect he is nearly fucking 70 he cant rock no more like he used too

  • abviously you did'nt see him last year and this year with Sabbath(Heaven n Hell). I saw both shows. And trust me when I say this, He Was Great and I heard no signs of slowing down....

  • amazing, best track, never thought i would see it on video.

  • My first concert too was Rainbow at The Liverpool empire! I have been to and seen hundreds of bands since but that concert can never be beaten blackmore is still the best guitar player I have seen live and I have seen most of the great guitar players live.

  • my first concert ever Rainbow Liverpool Empire Sept 3rd 1976 - never seen anything like that rainbow. A Light in the Black was dropped for the European tour, so it is very rare to hear/see it here....

  • Cozy Powell! RIP, you are sadly missed.

  • the quality of this video is poor it's a pity.

otherwise this is a great band with great songs ! their concert was very exciting. Rithchie Blackmore is one of the greatests guitarists

  • Guitarists I think come with a sense of supperiority and giving the spotlight to a lead singer is hard enough but to hand it over to such a fantastic vocalist....Its easy to see why they split....Blackmore was an egotist and I say it out of anger because we were robbed of years of fantastic albums that Rainbow could have put out with Dio!

  • look dip shit! Ritchie started that fucking band, so he has every right to put his name in front of it. it's not like he was recruited by the band, then decided to take over. Besides, had they not split, Joe Lynn Turner may not have been discovered or not discovered as soon. so stop being such a whiny bitch about it.

  • What are you talking about? JLT Lol! Necrophile coulldn't agree with you more. Blackmore is a guitar god but is a shame Dio's ego and his could put out another few albums (can you imagine?)

  • JLT discovered?...that is truly hillarious...Who would want to discover such a lack luster turd?

  • think of the classic dio sabbath albums we would have lost, blackmores ego has been greatly overstated he always admits he copied over people for some of his riffs, to me that shows some modesty.

  • I couldn't agree more...but as a fan I knew where Ritchie was taking the band and RJD was destined to immortalize his true colors under the banner of Black Sabbath...I wouldn't have wished for anything different. Ritchie wanted radio friendly, generic JLT...what a shame.
