If you spread the food around a bit on the deck (Raccoons and possums and foxes all like peanuts in the shell and sunflower seeds) there will be no fighting. And nobody goes home hungry. They can get along pretty well, playing "bumper butts" a bit, but not biting at each other. Skunks may come too, but they will behave. That's the nightshift. Daytime, the same banquet brings jays, doves, woodpeckers, crows , squirrels and chipmunks

@Moonchalice - thats a great way to get your squirrels eaten by raccoons and is not really a good thing to do for any animals as they lose the fear of humans and some of their independence. remember not everyone is as nice as you are, just watch around this site for proof(plenty of scoped cam'd squirrel deaths on this site). also coons can be very dangerous with young nearby and can carry many diseases as well as squirrels and both can and do cause electrical problems and fires

Up here on the mountain we are inclined to provide supplemental food to the local fauna when weather (especially ice) makes skimpy pickings for everyone (including the deer). We never approach the animals. (not trying to make friends, or hand feed). We have field cameras on the acreage and can identify many of the individual animals from seeing the pics. Deer seem to know our land is sanctuary. They will lay here when guns are heard.

My friend has had raccoons for a long time, but they are kept inside and he doesn't care about his house. He has dogs and cats and they all get along real well, but yeah, when that raccoon is hungry, he does get aggressive.
