I volunteer at an animal shelter and these poor pit bulls are some of the most loving dogs you could ever come across. The only monsters are the humans that abuse them, recklessly breed them, discard them, kill them, let them run loose, don't know what they are doing with them, don't address any aggression issues with any dog with a professional ASAP, dispose of them when they don't want them any more. Be a responsible dog breeder, dog owner & report any dog fighting/animal abuse.
I miss my pit, due to people being cruel to the dogs and making them mean by force, they were banned from my town and I had to get rid of her... but I actually just let my friend take care of her (she lives in a different town)so I can always see my baby :) me and that dog have been best friends since I was 4 =/ I hate people who abuse animals!

My 2 year old nephew can walk up to her and she will lie down for him to pet her. Hell she thinks she's a 4 pound chihuaha and will literally climb into your lap for hugs and kisses!
I have a cousin who breeds pit bulls and not one of them has ever bit anyone or any animals. I call them puppies cuz that's what they r. Big happy puppies. They are friendly and love kids. They even love my lil dog. My cousin is try to show people that pits are not vicious by nature. Which they are not, it people who make them that way.

My aunt's border collie got his nose bitten hard enough to break it by another dog whose owner looked like some kinda crack addict. I was fucking scared and didn't know what to do, the owner just ran away with his dog. I hope he is found one day and will go to jail. It's HIS fault the dog became like this. I have a pit and have been around them most of my life. They are loyal and affectionate dogs. They will love there family unconditionally without question. With that said, they are not for everyone and in fact, most people that have dogs should not have any dog let alone a powerful high energy breed like a pit. All dogs need socialization, exercise and mental stimulation. Pits are very high energy with a high drive. They have all the tools to be a dangerous dog but are not that way by nature.

My pitbull is the sweetest most dog I've ever owned. He's not even aggressive towards other male dogs. He is protective of our bunny, when we first brought her home, he wouldn't let our Bullmasstiff near the cage. He doesn't go to bed unless she's tucked in her cage. He doesn't even chase cats. I'm actually amazed by the genital and loving nature of this dog, he loves everyone and is eager to please. He's had no training, but acts like we sent him to school or something, form how well he obeys.

I volunteer at an animal shelter and these poor pit bulls are some of the most loving dogs you could ever come across. The only monsters are the humans that abuse them, recklessly breed them, discard them, kill them, let them run loose, don't know what they are doing with them, don't address any aggression issues with any dog with a professional ASAP, dispose of them when they don't want them any more. Be a responsible dog breeder, dog owner & report any dog fighting/animal abuse.

I miss my pit, due to people being cruel to the dogs and making them mean by force, they were banned from my town and I had to get rid of her... but I actually just let my friend take care of her (she lives in a different town)so I can always see my baby :) me and that dog have been best friends since I was 4 =/ I hate people who abuse animals!

I have a cousin who breeds pit bulls and not one of them has ever bit anyone or any animals. I call them puppies cuz that's what they r. Big happy puppies. They are friendly and love kids. My aunt's border collie got his nose bitten hard enough to break it by another dog whose owner looked like some kinda crack addict. I was fucking scared and didn't know what to do, the owner just ran away with his dog. I hope he is found one day and will go to jail. It's HIS fault the dog became like this. I have a pit and have been around them most of my life. They are loyal and affectionate dogs. They will love there family unconditionally without question. With that said, they are not for everyone and in fact, most people that have dogs should not have any dog let alone a powerful high energy breed like a pit. All dogs need socialization, exercise and mental stimulation. Pits are very high energy with a high drive. They have all the tools to be a dangerous dog but are not that way by nature.

Unfortunately the issue with pitbulls is NOT their aggressive nature towards people, indeed they were bred to NOT bite people, as it would be a human being which would reach into the pit and pull the dogs apart when one of the dogs had beaten the other in these moronic fights. My pitbull is the sweetest most dog I've ever owned. He's not even aggressive towards other male dogs. He is protective of our bunny, when we first brought her home, he wouldn't let our Bullmasstiff near the cage. He doesn't go to bed unless she's tucked in her cage. He doesn't even chase cats. I'm actually amazed by the genital and loving nature of this dog, he loves everyone and is eager to please. He's had no training, but acts like we sent him to school or something, form how well he obeys.

At the end of the day those who use dogs to fight, should be put in a cage and made to fight to the death themselves.
This is major animal cruelty, if i had cancer and had only 12 months to live, i would teach any of those dog fighters a lessen see how they like it.
These animals are lovely, and many people only think of the Danger these dogs cause because they are fighting dogs, rather than the suffering they are put through because some owners use them to fight.
The punishmentsis not harsh!

@MLGSpaceNinja I understand that your pitbull is all sweet and loving, but when they're brought up wrongly they kill people, other dogs that are brought up wrong don't kill. Do you see the pattern? Pitbulls were bred by people to be fighting dogs, that's what their for, and that's what they do. 3 people have died in my state this year from loose Pitbulls attacking people in their path, one was 4 years old. Why is there 0 fatalities from other breeds? Because Pitbulls kill.

I love german shepards also but ive seen some real mean ones that can easily do just as much damage as any pitbull that you generalize as the only dogs that can kill. Tell that to the surviving Vick dogs that are now therapy dogs and family pets or the not so famous victims of abuse that have been rehabilitated. The German Shepherd was trained by the Nazis to kill prisoners. Many of these powerful dogs had different jobs at different times yet these dogs make great pets in the right hands. Breeding responsibly & stopping dog fighting & being a responsible dog owner is key.

@Heatherhickman1986lo "Responsible" pit bull owners have the same warped philosophy as "responsible" gun owners: If a child gets mauled to death in a park or a maniac guns down 20 people at a fast food restaurant they ALWAYS blame the owner - not the weapon. No thought for the victims.
There are hundreds of dog breeds to choose from. So why choose a breed that is capable of killing adults, as well as children? No killer dogs, no need for "responsible" owners. Simple.

Pit bulls were used as search and rescue dogs after 9/11 to search for victims, they are used as therapy dogs, some were used as nanny dogs. All these powerful dogs had and have many uses. All types of dogs have killed people

@jec933 Unless there's a specific justification for owning a dog that could potentially turn violent and kill somebody then there's no logical reason for having them as pets.
We know why irresponsible dog owners go for pit bulls, rotweilers, etc (e.g. protection, ego, a symbol of their aggression) but what is the attraction for responsible dog owners? As I said, hundreds of other breeds to choose from.

@BigEricHunt Do that pit bull, labrador retriever, etc that is used as a search and rescue dog or as a dog to help the handicapped is not allowed to be someone's pet because there is a potential there to kill someone. You do realize what you are saying right? People get murdered every day. People get killed in car accidents every day. We probably should not be driving cars or conversing with people because they all potentially could kill us. Horses kill. A Pomeranian killed a baby.

@jec933 If everyone who owned a pit bull or rottweiler trained them to be like poodles then I'd have no complaints. But thousands of people get them for "protection" and train them to attack strangers. The evidence is in the uploads on the right hand side of your screen.
Personally, I can't think of any justification for anyone being ripped to shreds by a pit bull or rottweiler.

@BigEricHunt But the point is you have to make the person accountable. Any dog, including a labrador retriever has bitten people. You have to put the responsibility where it belongs with the human. There are plenty of people who have a pit bull and they are great family pets.

People who argue in favour of keeping pit bulls & rottweilers as pets don't care about victims. They only care about the right to choose whatever dog they want. And I dare say some choose these breeds just to be controversial or prove a point - cos let's face it, on a scale of 0 to 10 pit bulls & rottweilers score 0 in the looks & cuteness department.

Life is full of risks and most people realize that stronger laws and enforcement regarding making people accountable is the key. Not removing beloved dogs from families because some people blow something out of proportion to the risk. Your solution is pretty bleak and unfair.

German Shepherds, for example, can be great killers of people yet great and loyal pets. The dog isn't the problem. We need to force people to be more responsible dog owners and stop dog fighting as much as possible.

Thirty dog attacks a year that actually kill people and that is all different types of dogs. Millions of dogs. Common sense says the threat is almost nonexistent. You would have a better chance of being murdered, killed in a car accident or struck by lightening.

@BigEricHunt Also, on average approximately thirty people are killed by dogs a year even though there are millions of dogs in this country. The dogs are made up of different types and mixes. Proof that managing your dog is the key. A lot of dogs are mixed breeds & we never hear the whole story of a fatal attack or confirmation on some of these attacks as to what the dog actually was. It is the human that is responsible for breeding dogs responsibly, spaying/neutering and making a dog safe.

Google fatal malteese attacks, they just are not there, and im sure there is a malteese attack every day, but they do not have the tools like a pit bull. Responcible people has nothing to do with pit bull attacks, do you not know pits are breed to kill abd are big enouf to do just that? you say all dogs are capable of being aggressive, and yes your right, but not all are capable of killing people, pits are.
