I was enjoying that vid, great racing lines all the way around. Just unfortunate he was a little too fast and got under steer into the barrier. And in terms of speed, that wasnt' too bad, there are some sections where you are a lot quicker than that. Did he total the car, didn't actually seem as bad as it could have been?

fantastic driving. how can anyone say: i just wasted 5mins, the crush was ok.... these are great skills, most of us can not drive even close to that, and never will. he crushed - ok, but even greatest racing/rally names crashed many times in their carrier. thats the price you pay in motor sport. but you HAVE to push to the limit(one's limit), and then slowly over the limit to learn more and finally move your skills to a new level.

Airbags go off with a bang. BANG! Also, the impact must be within 30 degrees of centerline for the airbags to deploy, and this looks like he hit the barrier at more than 30 degrees angle.

Just a tip, if you think you are about to crash and your airbags are going to deploy, move your thumbs out of the way or you will get a nasty sprain or worse.

It seems very dramatic (for some people). But he just missed his braking point and therefore he now only misses the apex but also still carrying to much speed in the corner. The missing of the apex is not the driver's fault but a normal result of missing the braking point in a multii corner like this (the road goes slightly to the left before going right). So like I said it seems for some people like a car problem but the driver braked just a few meters too late, approximately 10 meters I think.

Exactly, agree with this totally, but I'll add it's very easy to miss judge a corner like this, both because it's alot sharper than it initially looks and draws the driver in, and also because it's not possible to brake in a straight line because of the kink left just before, like you've said though, you don't have to miss your braking point by much to completely overshoot the corner.

At Steilstrecke, you have to brake before the first red ripple strip on the left - no later. He's about 50 metres too late. He was driving so well everywhere else, he'd have to know that. I think it was just a momentary brain fade.

He entered the last turn with too high speed and heavy oversteering occured.

At speed he entered the last turn no one could avoid crash. As I could see he hitted the brakes 0,5 secs later than he should with such entering speed. On a little"downhill" that could be seen at 5:22 he started to use the brakes and the force of moving objest (GT 3 RS in this case) litteraly pushed "downhill" the car. Even on a small downhill braking efficiency falls signifgficantly.

That is a 911 Carrera, GT2 or GT3.

It does LOOK like a big "H" - but, it is actually the Vent open/shut controls (the vertical bars) and the Hazard switch on top. The bottom switch is the power door locks...

At least that is what they are on mine.

This guy is an amazing driver on a hot lap. He obviously knows the track very well, but if you look he gets caught out because the bend is on a slight downhill - so he's probably thinking about the bend and not remembering the crest, and when he arrives fast on the crest his car takes off slightly and he can't brake forcefully enough. Hope he was alright - anyone know?
