I would scrap the whole ares project. For moon missions I would launch a Falcon9 "Heavy" for Earth Departure stage. Use a Falcon9 for the LSAM and Falcon9 for the Crew Vehicle. We are probably looking at about 1 billion in savings per lunar mission.

Hmm, I dont know about that, Ive done my math and would say more something like 400 million $ in savings with that aproach.
