  • Peter Gade:

You must have the nerves okay if you make such a feint in an Olympic final, but you never know it may well be just what it takes, so that I could get a medal, and if this is what it takes, then it will give me great pleasure.

  • I believe in fact that I certainly in my last part of my career will try to get some more of these elements in my game, because it also helps to make the opponent become uncertain, and have no idea what is coming from my side.”

    Commentator:

“His career is not on track to be knocked out of the pitch, the little feint could indeed be used in Beijing this summer.”

  • Commentator:

“The new trick to be tested in the Copenhagen Masters looks like this.”

Peter Gade: “Now I'm trying to make it when I meet the shuttlecocks here, and then I just do it the opposite way, that is of course not a natural movement like this way because there is something in the wrist that blocks. Very risky trick, but if it succeeds, then it's a cool feeling.

  • Commentator:

“The man who has thousands of shuttlecocks behind him, and is known for his hard hitting smash, but he has more tricks in the racquet.”

    Peter Gade:

“ This is the original trick, which I have played with for many years until I finally pulled myself together to do it in Copenhagen Masters for five or six years ago. I go up here to meet the ball, and I get my opponent to think that I'll play straight, and then I turn the racket this way hitting it cross.”

  • No wonder why people call him the *Danish Trick Master*

  • he said this whole fight is gay! at 0:46

  • ok bro its 2010, im 30 yrs old and was doing that in my back yard 22 years ago!! thats an old trick bra! tight tho.

  • lol @ adr58, goto 0:46 to hear it completely

  • Awesome!

  • News lady is talking about Peter Gade who is know for his hards smahs. And Peter Gade says he have been practicing for this trick so he could use in Copenhagen Master (tournament i think) And then he explains it and you can see what he is doing and what it is good for, but also very dangerous and hard to do. Short Explanation :)

  • I figured out this shot before I saw this video, but yeah...that's pretty nice. I can do the backhand one extremely well but not so much the forehand shot. It takes so much more wrist twisting and you need to raise your elbow with it.

  • bdmntn07 You are welcome ;)

Haha, 1993heavenshallburn funny to hear how others who does not speak Danish hear our language :b

  • its taking me a lifetime to learn this new trick grrr:-)

  • dangerous move.. u could lose ur wrist :X

  • @YiLuXiangBang

LOL! NAh If you don't have a good enough wrist for this

    Better start on another sport

    :D

  • In the end he says that he will try to put more of these elements in to his play because it confuses the opponents so they don't know what Peter will do. But the nerves have to be strong and steady to do a trick like that in an OL final but if that's what's working so he can get another medal he will do it ;)

  • Then he shows the trick in the front hand. Now that's a little bit tricky he says because it isn't a move that is as natural as the other trick because there is something in your wrist that blocks so you can't twist it any further - a very dangerous shot but if it succeeds it is an awesome feeling he says.

  • @MuzicTick

Thanks for the confirmation in this translation, starting the shot with the forehand is obviously more difficult due to wrist anatomy!

  • @MuzicTick thanks a lot. on the forehand side, i use my thumb to hold the racket to get that angle, it gives you virtually no power but i use it for a straight net shot and it works :)

  • Okay I'm Danish, and when he shows the first trickshot he says that he has played with this trick a lot and that the first time he attempted to do it was in the Copenhagen Masters for about 5 or 6 years ago and if you watch badminton you will know that it worked.

  • lol, that language sounds funny as hell, but kinda realted to german...

  • thanks peter gade u save me from my badminton competition and thanks for the trick shots

  • Lol no time for eaction for the opponent xD

  • my joints hurt

  • haha... looks fun.. try that next time

  • wtf! the forehand 1 is like crazy hard!!!

  • phenominal

  • he makes it look effortless lol

  • man.... not only is his trick shots very awesome and effective but he can do it some consistently and can actually use it in a game!! that is impressive.

  • he has

  • his signature shot is awesome.

and he's so cute when he talks :))))

  • WTF how does he do this

  • awesome. add more moves to my list. thanks

  • i live in Rochester NY and i love badminton but their is no such place as the one in this video and it makes me tear up to see a place so beatiful

  • @sscthecount

Too bad - you must work to convince the right authorities to make badm. courts.

Most sports halls here in DK have them,

and they are very popular among teams and more ordinary "amaterur" players - very good for keeping fit ;-)

Anyway I believe this is a major arena, where the national badm. team players have their daily training.

  • This shot is Frickin' Awesome!!! I'm so gonna perfect this!! if i even can... =D

  • 0:48 ''this whole fight is gay'' lol

  • @adr58 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! xD

  • @adr58

    hahahahahaha

  • @adr58 LOL that isnt what he say your stupid k, he said on danish: jeg tror at i den sidste del af min karrierer vil forsøge at få nogle af de her elementer ind.

on english: i think i will try to get more of this elements in the latter part of my career...

  • @adr58 LOLOL

  • @adr58 i really lold at that XD

  • @adr58 omg !! He says something about his play, and nothing about gay ?

    it's Danis your NOOB!!

  • @123RaXXa Don't get exited kid , was just a joke ...

  • Fedt trickshot, jeg må hellere øve mig. :-)

  • i everday look this video.... its cool gade....

  • oh my god...i cant even band my wrist till tat angle ...@@"

  • its coll zidanetribal999.....hahaha . tricky...

  • the trick is that you hold the racket in position with your thumb, not as much wrist movement as you think.

  • @zidanetribal999

Try twisting the arm as well and hold the racket loosely - use your thumb. :-)

  • haha peter you are amazing! he can do it so consistently. Even if you can do it nice and tight 3/4 times with this trick that is amazing!

  • that one on the forhand side is much harder than the other i think..

  • its a tough trick to do, and i wont recommend youngters who wrist are still growing cuz it can really ruin it

  • that trick really can ruin the wrist growing?so you recoomended what age to do that trick shot?

  • oh boy, good question. maybe around sixteen or so?? it has to be after your wrist is fully developed. once or twice is fine, but to do it frequently like how Mr. Gade is can really screw you up. I had friends do it (starters at badminton) and start to develop tendonitis and arthritis (besides the point tho) I did it my self. (my opponent asked his coach "What the heck was that?")

  • haha ... then I cant use those skill until I join national squad ... still long journey for me

  • Ummm, no. Considering there is very little wrist movement involved in that whatsoever, especially on the forehand shot. Just grab a racket and try doing it on the forehand and it puts no strain whatsoever on your wrist. You may think it puts lots of strain if you try the backhand shot but it requires mostly your thumb to control it with very little wrist movement.

  • sec trick = super hard wrist twisting trick

  • xd i did the trick today in 2 trys or 4 and my shuffle is on the roof now xd

  • 神手就是神手

  • Great video

  • Badminton lovers!

  • Gade is an amazing player. His trick shots are great, and his footwork, though slightly different from others, he's quick. ^_^

I would love to see Taufik, Gade and Lindan all face off in their prime.

Lin Dan is fast and very good offensively. His speed helped him to play the much deceptive Gade.

I believe Taufik would probably come out on top. His 2004 Olympic performance can only be describe as masterpiece. Too bad that he's kinda old now. Even his jump smash looks different from before.

  • yeah, but he was amazing enough to watch that once was blessing enough. A person can only be in their prime for so long

  • kun geni

  • He is explaining a new trick shot.

before, he tried it "up" and "bagwards" and now he will try it the other way.

Dont know how to explain it. xD

He says he is going to try it in a tounament in the new seson.

(sorry for my bad english) xD

  • hes a prof. badmintonspiller!

  • Thats an arc saber10 o.o

  • he's not using arc10 in that video .. he's using at700

  • peter says his fave racquets are the old iso slim 10 and mp 88 (there mine too!) but 'cuz there all discontinued, he really couldnt care less what racquet he uses aslong as its good quality

  • also i might point out that the arc10 came out in 2009

  • any Danes watching this? please translate the genius' words for us.

  • What he basically says is, that when he meets the ball, instead of net dropping it straight (that most opponents will think he'll do), he crosses it by hitting it the other way.

He's got a new trick that he shows at 0:30. It's basically the same, it's just the forehand instead of the backhand, and the trick is harder to execute since it's not a normal twist.

  • thanks, yes ive yet to see him use the reverse backhand in a match. he seems to be able to do it consistently though.

  • @bdmntn07 lol XD its danish ..

  • favourited.

he is my second favourite player after Taufik Hidayat.

  • 1:00 WTF this guy is genius

  • lol. wasnt that just a normal tight net-shot?

  • that one on the forehand side is ridiculous

  • He is so good♥

  • Peter Gade ... his agility is walao and his tardemark shot , trick shot wow!

Thats why he is one of my 4 favourite players

  • :) peter gade is way better than lin dan

  • HAHAHAHAHA..WAT WORLD ARE U LIVING IN MAN!!!head to head in matches!!!lin dan has beat peter gade like 12-3...

  • its only because of age difference and peter gade had a really bad injury

  • if they're around the same age and both at their best, there's gonna be an exciting match!

  • ya it would be really intense

  • wat does ur sentence start with??? a BIG "IF"...if things were like this and if things were like that...head to head lin dan is 12;gade is 3...dunt get me wrong i think gade is freakin amazing...but dont talk IF"s

  • lin dan and peter gade are roughly the same overall, at the same age and injury free, lin dan is slightly faster and gade has better deception.

Taufik beats both with ease when he is playing well, but he is only 28 and cannot compete with lin dan now...

  • agree with that, taufik's shots are a bit more radical and useful (backhand smash!) than these trickshots, but that reverse forehand is out of this world...

it was interesting to see gade vs lin in hyderabad this year, 22-20 lin dan in the 1st game

  • ppfffttt

  • I can do this trick too, it's not hard to learn but cool to execute. I'm looking forward for him to doing this in a match ;) but it will be difficult since in matches the game is alot faster.

  • 0:42 look at the wrist.. amazing

  • fast..

  • cool tricks but really hard to do especially for me.peter gade is very good at tricks shots actually i would say that he is the master of tricks shots

  • he rock's but the king of the tricks shots i dunno is he is, anyway does tricks are basic, just need some practice and put the practice on a game situation and you will by fine to o it

  • yeah i guess your right!ill try and practice on it

  • OMG DIS GUY IS AWESOME

  • That's why Gade is my idol :D

  • yeah everybody says that. But really it's not a good reason to say that. But its damn good!

  • Don't bother learning it really it'll win you a few points and lose you more, though it is pretty damn cool

  • true lol

  • wooo 0.o he's the master of deception.....i wonder how he twisted his wrist so accurately and swift enough to hit the shuttle....o.0

  • omg thats sick, hes my new idol

  • nice..

  • holy shit thats crazy

  • totally ruled when he used it against lin dan in the semis at worlds. too bad he lost that match though lol

  • is there any link? this was the first time ive seen it, did he really used it in competition?

  • i still dont understand how that forehand work WTF?! o.O

  • master of deception

  • must learn now

  • O_O omg that forehand trickshot was awesome! wtf?

  • cool...i'm going to practice that.
